“I couldn't be happier with the video. Kenzie really understood what I was trying to say with this song. During the period of my life, ‘Icicles’ was about, I felt like a total non-person. Everyone around me seemed more alive and more ‘there’ than I did - the little hunk of ice with the blank expression was really how I felt. I was simultaneously frozen and falling apart, and it felt like that was obvious to everyone around me. When you're in that state I think it's a lot easier for people to dismiss or mistreat you without feeling bad - almost everyone around me at the time felt dangerous. I think the triumph I felt when I finally discovered my inner fortitude being represented by the Icicles transforming into a mountain is so effective...All the imagery in the video is so effortlessly on-point. I couldn't ask for a better visual companion to this song.”

This song perfectly describes perfectly that feeling of repressed anger due to trauma.
Maybe it’s just me, but listening to this I can hear someone who is tired of having to tolerate other people being cruel and overall mean to them, but the moment they themselves try to fight back and show some anger they immediately are seen as “wrong” and get punished for it.
About how they have to remain “easy and accessible”, they can never show a single bit of anger or they will suffer the consequences, so they can just kind of cry to themselves and suppress it.
Gosh, I love this song, but it’s too painful.

Random vent: This song. I really am so happy. The scary jokes mean so much to me. I remember some years ago, I used to be with my father. He was a very bad person, the only thing I had was basically UA-cam. I remember on my birthday, I cried so much. The night before that, all I did was listen to your music (with others like Dazey and the scouts, mommy long legs etc.) it helped me realize so much. I remember the tears that fled through my eyes when I realized everything was wrong. I did not know anything. I was uncomfortable, not sad, but uncomfortable. And when I realized… I cried so, so much. I think that was the worst birthday of my life. But also the best one. I can’t thank enough for the music that has been with me at that time, especially the scary jokes. I always talk about them, they mean so so much to me. All their songs. Everything. It helped me so much and in words I cannot express.
Another rant, but happier this time:
This may be because I’m autistic, but I focus so much on music. I listen to music and break down the chords and lyrics meaning myself (since I have trouble with that). The more I focus on what’s in the background makes me flap my hands in happiness. Like, the smallest sound effects put into this music will make me so happy.
Another one:
The scary jokes really really helped me improved my song writing and encouraged me to write more poetry and song lyrics, with piano. I don’t know, I feel like I’d be so lost without this music. It means so much to me, in words I cannot describe, it makes me feel so happy yet so distraught. I love it. Thank you.

April Fools is one of my favorite albums of all time, and my favorite by The Scary Jokes. Hearing the remasters now- and how they still carry the same sound and soul of the originals, with the production of Burn Pygmalion means so much to me, as I'm sure it does to TSJ as well.
The music video is so charming and endearing, and carries the energy of the song perfectly. Lovely work from everyone involved

I can't even begin to describe how much this makes me happy, TSJ is one of the first artists I really became a fan of and to this day theyre still some of the best music I've ever heard. I can't name a single artist that can evoke the same type of ethereal and soft-but-intense emotions in me. This album and burn pygmalion have never failed to make me feel good and have helped me grow as a person during what was probably some of the worst times of my life. I really hope I can learn to make music like them one day. Thank you Liz, you wonderful little musical goblin.
This has a completely different meaning for me. I discovered this trying to calm myself down after EATEOT. It didn’t work well, I… melted. This song still gives me an emotion that I don’t know what to call (but it feels scary)

Maybe it’s because their music is so dreamlike and I have a tendency to dissociate something fierce, but TSJ’s music speaks to my soul and my traumas specifically in a way very little else on earth can and I am so grateful for that.
