- Amira Willighagen performs Nella Fantasia during an 'Afrikaans is Groot' concert staged in South Africa in November 2016.
In an arrangement written especially for Amira, the performance begins with the majestic Ennio Morricone composition 'River' from the soundtrack to the movie 'The Mission'. This is then followed by Amira's rendition of Nella Fantasia which is based on the haunting melody known as 'Gabriel's Oboe' written by the same composer for the same movie.
Born 27 March 2004, Amira was 12 years old at the time of this performance.

Following her highly successful performances at the 'Classics is Groot' concerts held earlier in the year, Amira was invited back to the country to perform as a guest artiste at the eleven 'Afrikaans is Groot' concerts held during November 2016.
During the show, Amira sang a brief duet with Corlea Botha, together with other artists, during a rendition of a sacred piece known as 'Die Onse Vader' (The Lord's Prayer) and she also joined the whole group in the Finalé. Nella Fantasia was the only solo number performed.
The above performances are included in the DVD of the full show entitled 'Afrikaans is Groot 2016 - Dié Konsert'.

Note that this superb performance was from a year ago. Amira's performances of 'Nessun Dorma' and 'The Flower Duet' on the CIG 2017 DVD are also 'astoundingly beautiful' with a voice that has continued to mature for one more year. This DVD is well worth purchasing from Gelukskinders.

I’m an old man and I must say that this child takes my breath away. I’ve never heard a voice that has brought me to tears so many times. What a presence. Not just a voice but the sweetest instrument imaginable.
She sang for maybe 30 seconds and already every hair was standing on end and my goose-bums had goosebumps. She is spellbinding. I am not a classical music fan at all, but this girl had me in tears by 45 seconds - her voice is so beautiful.
Hitting the high C for over 8 seconds at the end of this beautifully sung song is beyond words. She is a true artist.
Once in a very great while, God presents someone onto the world stage that transcends most all that have come before and that's where Amira comes in. Her voice is simply beyond description. A soprano version of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, you name it. To describe Amira is to drain the vocabulary of superlatives.

The splendid melody in her voice, the smooth deliverance and her effortless ability to reach the highest notes are what makes Amira the greatest soprano that has ever lived. I have listened to opera all my life and I am 70 -years-old I have listened to all the great sopranos there has never been anything like Amira. How I wish I was a young man so I could listen to this magnificent voice all of my life, I thank the Lord for allowing me to live long enough to have heard this immortal voice of Amira Willighagen and then with great gratitude I see this beautiful humble young lady that brings us this heavenly music. How fortunate the world is to be blessed with this great lady.

If there are angels on Earth.... Amira is certainly the brightest of them. I've watched all her UA-cam videos from her earliest impromptu performance on "Holland's Got Talent" to this latest. She has gone from a precocious nine-year-old, unaware of her raw talent, to the performance stages around the world, amazing audiences... yes, even bringing them to tears, with her beautiful renditions of classical pieces. Her beauty and talent grows with each year. Hup Amira!

I don't know much of her background, family, etc., but from the aura and charisma she projects, I believe she has an equally beautiful, modest character and values too! Until I saw Amira on Holland's Got Talent singing O Mio Babino Caro at age 9, I had no interest in opera or words I cannot understand. I have been obsessed with Amira and her angelic voice ever since. Her songs play in my head every day. She is amazing.

i never liked classical until my friend posted she loved Massimo Ranieri..then she told me about Patrizio Buanne..and i saw him in a duet "o solo mio" with Amira..then you tubed her and i'm hooked..Americans are so deprived with our music..all her songs i've heard are so beautiful..her voice brings tears to my eyes.

I find it unbelievable that a 12 year old girl can sing like this and from where does she get the lung capacity. This young woman is truly amazing with a great future. I know she was asked this before and answered that for her it is normal, 'just like walking'

Witnessing this rendition of Nella Fantasia, I developed leaky-eyetis like the rest of the world and audience for no reason that I can explain. She is human off-stage, but her singing simply transcends into something indescribable. Delivered in the package of a child. Opera has suddenly become the go-to music for shower singing - and I don't believe I've listened to opera in decades. Amira, I hope you stay the course and continue to touch souls, thank you for sharing your amazing talent.

In addition to Amira's beautiful sound, she has added so much professionalism to her performances this year. She enters like a star, composed and calm. Her breathing is deep and thought out in advance so her phrasing is spot-on. She rises to the climaxes and then spins out quieter phrases. And she ends with a splendid, sustained high C. She has become a real artist.

I love her characteristic wave when she finishes her performance and then gives the audience her big, beautiful radiant smile. That is her signature characteristic and I hope she continues that throughout her career. I have been trying to follow her career and watch her grow into a lovely young woman. And, when she sings, her voice, so clear, beautiful and bright, just mesmerzes me and I will listen to her sing and no one, no one, better be talking around me when Amira is singing!

I saw Amira, first stage appearance she was perhaps 6 or 7 years old. And have been following her, great singer not to many girls around with this kind of talent.

Yes I noticed people are telling her to keep her call sign which is the wave, but also the smile at the end of the song. I always think of it as sweet, but also showing her conversion from womanly vocalist back to young girl/lady. It will always be charming.

Since HGT I have been awestruck by the purity and clarity of Amira's voice. I am not a musician, but to me Amira's voice is better than any choir or any instrument. And her voice and presentation have only improved.
