There is a reason for having a keyboard and a drum pad controller. When tapping out drums on a keyboard, you have a about half an inch of depression before the key triggers, the pads trigger nearly instantly on contact. It makes playing dynamic drum parts a lot easier.
It can also be configured to control sequencing- and recording-software functions like start, stop, record, play, change track, choose fx and settings. You can even configure the xy-pad to act as a mouse, simular to the touchpad of a laptap.
I was going to purchase the MPD32, which costs nearly twice as much as the Pad Kontrol. But after learning about PK, Akai can burn in hell! This thing rocks!
If you don't have either, and you're not a pianist, I would recommend a pad controller. If you are a pianist, get a midi keyboard; you'll be more productive. If you already have a midi keyboard, I would completely recommend getting any pad controller. Even if you aren't worried about dynamics (velocity) in your drums, the timing you will get from a pad is much more natural sounding. And, they're just so damned fun. PadKontrol; Trigger Finger; MPD 16, 24, or 32; ZenDrum Zap.
matsan, Thanks for the demo. I just bought a padKontrol based on your video. So kewl, so simple, so powerful. It's the X/Y pad feature that sold me. I have the "X" ribbon on my Triton ProX 88 & really dig it. This X/Y pad has to be 12x better ;-) Kewl
It's a control device. Meant to control music software (more really drum or sampling software). It does come with software, and I just checked it comes with a drum plugin. But that I'm not too sure how good it is or how large the sound library is. It's definitely good enough to start with, at least that's my guess.
Just wanted to add that this no longer comes with the software listed in this video. There is a new package that you can mail in to get, but the included software isn't quite as impressive as the stuff listed here either.
I think this is definitely better than the Akai MPD and MPK pads. You need to smash the shit out of the Akai pads for it to register. The FLAM X/Y looks pretty hot too.
if u can assing 1 midi signal to two or more actions u can do what u do. if u cant assing 1 signal to 2 or more actions, im afraid u cant run two tracks :( try with any midi gear before purchase the padkontrl :P
I'm new to all this production things, but is there like anyway you can connect this one to a dj mixer (without a computer) and perfor live druming sessions? becouse that would be awesome
First thing: This dude is a robot, ya'll don't realize!? Second thing. I can't get PadKontrol Abletons preset to work on Live 10!! had to configure all by hand!
how come my pad kontrol didnt come with all these softwares??? thats bullshit..i bought my padkontrol and all i had was a cd installer..smh...feel like returning it..but i love it.
is there an option in Cubase to set padkontroller as a triggering device for play, stop, mute, etc, so i can trigger channels while recording mix ???? ive been using this padkontroller only as a midi device for playing instruments, plz help...
I'm considering buying this thing, but i'm wondering do i get any program included in the package, or do i have to buy it seperatly and if so, what program is recommended for the Korg Padkontrol?
@jjs926 Lol, you still dont understand. The video is 4 years old which means that, more than likely, its outdated. As 4 more years go by, do you honestly think they will still be adding the software? Of course not...
hi great review i have a doubt i wanna use my drum in ableton for other effects not for drumming and i wanna assign my each pad on my kontrol pad to each note on the keyboard (1=A , 2=A# ,3=B , 4=C ....so on ) i guess u have used some software of korg to assign at 5.53 may i know how exactly u have assigned and wats the software u hav used .?
If you want new-ish, novamusik(dot)com has a PadKontrol, reboxed from Korg (full warranty), for $148.88, which is a steal. I ordered mine from their for that price. Considering the Trigger Finger is $139, it's a damn good deal for the pads. If you need more than pads (ie knobs, sliders and buttons), then the mpd24 at $179 is the best bang for your buck. Novamusik has an open box (full warranty) for $149, which is another steal. Used prices don't save you much; unless you find one really low.
i need a software to control with this. i have used FL studio BUT now im having trouble with the latancy, and it blows... is there any "simpler" software to use some wav samples with my padkontrol?
i have a question if i have a m-audio key rig 49 midi keyboard so is there any point of me getting this KORG PAD CONTROL??? IS THERE ANY POINT OF MY BUYING IT IF I ALLREADY HAVE A KEYBOARD
An MPC is not better because the PADKontrol can be used with 1,000s of different softwares/hardwares .. MPC can only be an MPC.. you can make this thing into whatever you want.. :P
I am thinking of getting one of these but do they have the same problem with the maschine? if you dont know the maschine problem here it is /watch?v=Ce_XOylBCRE
Is anyone else creeped out by the way this dude is standing and turning his head? Korgcyborg? So Korg only provided bundled software for european costumers? What gives?

The guy's like "His body was facing this way, but his head was turned that way"
I was going to purchase the MPD32, which costs nearly twice as much as the Pad Kontrol. But after learning about PK, Akai can burn in hell! This thing rocks!
Holy crap! what a wicked piece of machinery! I want one!

i'm in the same situation, but i think the x-y pad is the icing on the cake
matsan,

Just ordered one, I'm not late to the party- am I? lol
I just bought one too - there don't seem to be many around these days!
@@themystiquechiq For real! But their touch sensitivity is waay better then the newer midi I've purchased in the past. Pretty amazing.
I just got one today! Absolute bargain... strugglin with it though 😂
I'm in the same boat...might go for this for more natural sounding velocity curves, and just for the fun factor.
Yeah I'd like to know what the stand is too. Looks like it fixes to the table, which I haven't seen before.
Just wanted to add that this no longer comes with the software listed in this video. There is a new package that you can mail in to get, but the included software isn't quite as impressive as the stuff listed here either.
2006? shit im still buying this . the pad controller looks dope
i love this thing...gotta buy it next month..can't wait to get it^^
peace
it can be used with everything that recognizes Midi or USB controlers.
they told him "you better stand up straight or u will be beaten with the padkontroller"
whats with the way he's standing
I think this is definitely better than the Akai MPD and MPK pads. You need to smash the shit out of the Akai pads for it to register. The FLAM X/Y looks pretty hot too.
"despite being complicated it's easy to use" riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight i get it lol

try with any midi gear before purchase the padkontrl :P
I think it's a good idea to have one. Better than m-audio trigger.
He seems to have upgraded to the human beat program. Now he's Human Beat Making Relations
I'm new to all this production things, but is there like anyway you can connect this one to a dj mixer (without a computer) and perfor live druming sessions? becouse that would be awesome
Does anyone have any ideas where to find a stand like the one holding the padkontrol in this video?
First thing: This dude is a robot, ya'll don't realize!? Second thing. I can't get PadKontrol Abletons preset to work on Live 10!! had to configure all by hand!
great video, and where did you get that cool stand for it?
how come my pad kontrol didnt come with all these softwares???
thats bullshit..i bought my padkontrol and all i had was a cd installer..smh...feel like returning it..but i love it.
it could... but you need to get the drum software for it. It's just a controller.
idk man im havin trouble setting up my padkontrol my self
u can do more with an mpc
is there an option in Cubase to set padkontroller as a triggering device for play, stop, mute, etc, so i can trigger channels while recording mix ????
ive been using this padkontroller only as a midi device for playing instruments, plz help...

It's only Live Lite Edition, limited numbers of patterns, tracks and scenes… You need to upgrade to Live to fully enjoy the features of Ableton.
He almost falls over at 7:13
i fucking love korg. It's like, they make products that FORCE you to be creative.
do you get a disk with software on it when you buy the padKontrol to work it?
and it also makes your feet stick in one position to the floor
@chuyreal sampling is more in depth , more drum kits its just way better are you looking into buying one
@jjs926 Lol, you still dont understand. The video is 4 years old which means that, more than likely, its outdated. As 4 more years go by, do you honestly think they will still be adding the software? Of course not...

hi great review i have a doubt
i wanna use my drum in ableton for other effects not for drumming and i wanna assign my each pad on my kontrol pad to each note on the keyboard (1=A , 2=A# ,3=B , 4=C ....so on ) i guess u have used some software of korg to assign at 5.53 may i know how exactly u have assigned and wats the software u hav used .?
