I loooove your seasonal TBR, great idea! I kind of have morphed into this myself. I really personally love 💕 The Enchanted April and the film is lovely. So many great things on your list. I love many of these! The later Betsy Tacy books are WONDERFUL. You are in for such a treat.
I'm so glad to hear more love for The Enchanted April! 😊 I have heard good things about it and I'm so happy to have finally started it. I really cannot wait to read the rest of the Betsy-Tacy books! ❤️❤️ They were truly such favorites of mine growing up and I don't know why it has taken me so long to get to them.
Enchanted April is NOT sad, it's lovely. It's also been made into a beautiful movie. I've been waiting to hear your reaction to the Blue Castle since I saw you bought it a while ago, it's top five of all time for me. Thanks for the heads up about Mary Stewart, I'm going to check her out.
Oh good! I'm relieved to hear that. 😊 So far Enchanted April has been quite fun and I'm very curious to see where it goes. And yes! I've heard so many people say The Blue Castle is a fantastic book. And I do think it will be a pretty quick read once I get to it. I'll definitely let you know what I think! ❤️❤️
I recently discovered D E Stevenson myself and I am in LOVE!!! I have NO IDEA how I missed Betsy Tacy series as a kid but also heard about it on Kate Howe channel ( have you watched her? I think you would love her she is such a delight) I sped through the whole series in no time! The Enchanted Barn is my favorite Grace Livingston Hill. Ooooooo I haven't read the blue Castle either but I have it on my shelf. What a beautiful edition...hmmmm might have to pick it up.
I just heard about Kate's channel a couple weeks ago when someone mentioned her in one of the comments on a previous video. I'm hoping to watch some of her videos soon because I've looked at her channel and it seems like we would have very similar tastes! I'll add The Enchanted Barn to my list to read after this one! Grace Livingston Hill sounds like an author I could fall in love with so I'm really glad to have one of her books to try.
You have so many wonderful books to look forward to! I love The Enchanted April (I just reread it), Thornyhold, Ngaio Marsh, The Blue Castle…you are going to have lots of great reading ahead of you! And now I need to look up Alan Melville! I love the British Library Crime Classics as well!
Oh! That's such a good idea! I hadn't thought of doing videos about picture books, but I could see that being absolutely loads of fun. I LOVE good children's books and have been collecting them for years since well before having little ones of my own. I'll have to give it some thought and see what I can come up with. It would be a good series! ❤️🥰
Enchanted April or Hester is my next book to read. Do you worry about bed bugs when you buy books from resale ( Goodwill, Salv.Army) or even library sales? I've been hearing terrible stories lately. Enjoyed, thanks.
I personally have never had any issues with that and it didn't even cross my mind until recently when I was watching another youtuber and they mentioned something about one of their secondhand books being kind of gross with dead bugs in it. To be fair, I am also a little lazy when it comes to putting new book purchases away so sometimes they will sit on their own in the plastic shopping bag for a week or two so I don't know if that has made any difference. 🤭 All the books I do buy secondhand I make sure are in a nicer condition and I will usually flip through a book before purchasing it to make sure it looks good.
I, too, want to read the Blue Castle. I am currently reading Susan Settles Down by Molly Clavering and am really enjoying it. The library district that I work for has a big sale twice a year, and I just went to the spring one last weekend. I bought a few Ngaio Marsh books. Do you recommend reading them in order, because I didn't find the first one at the sale?
Ooh! I've been really curious about Molly Clavering because I've seen her recommended as being similar to Susan Scarlett, D. E. Stevenson, etc. I'll have to see if I can get one of her books to try out. I personally would recommend reading the Ngaio Marsh books in order just because there are references in some of the books to events in the previous books in the series. That being said, I don't think it would be confusing to read them out of order. Each book is fairly "individual" and there haven't been any parts where it would have been confusing if you hadn't read the other books. There have been a few times where I read one or two books ahead because the next one in the lineup wasn't available yet and I never had any issues with that.
Your channel is great 😊🎉❤
Oh I simply adore The Blue Castle! I reread it every year.
Hope you'll like it :)

Oh, and Miss Buncle Married which I loved just as much, or maybe a smidge more than Miss Buncle’s Book! 🥰
I love the books podcasts you do! Will you ever being doing small children books, for your little ones as they grow. Would love that.
