I'm really sad for the change. It's really, really frustrating, you know?, Like she said, it's a really old Olympic sport, and very 'traditional', which could contrast with the newer sports. I feel like an easy way to prevent them from abusing the horses, is just to let the athletes bring their own horses. I'm sure there's a reason why they gave random horses, but still, it's insanely stupid. And the change isn't even good. Obstacle course is just another stamina based sport. At least switch it with something a little unique, wrestling, boxing, archery. I was already upset that they combined the shooting and running into one.
Great interview, I hope we could hear from her, or other pentathles more! In my opinion, it's the most underrated sport. It's quite literally the least viewed Olympic sport haha

Swapping equestrian for obstacle makes perfect sense (modern warrior/soldier) ... and will save/grow the sport

The addition of Breakdancing to the Olympics this year implies the possibility of an “Urban Pentathlon” based around the Five classical Elements of Hip-Hop: Breakdancing, MCing (rapping), DJing, Graffiti style writing, and Knowledge . 2028 will be in LA so it’ll be the West Coast scene’s time to shine again

That honestly sounds pretty awesome. I'd like to keep the Modern Pentathlon but I'd 100% watch that as well.

    Very interesting!
So I get, why shooting is so troublesome, I mean they teach you breathing and concentration for hours and to keep the same stance.
But if you were really running and your breathing is not calm and relaxed, that becomes a totally different thing!
That is why I would ask if they train this in peticular, running and then shooting instead of calm shooting.
I can picture how hard it is, to get good at everything. On the other hand, I could also see a gentle(wo)men's sportsmanship in there in a way to say: "Okay, you may have been better in riding, unquestionably, but this year I could make it up in shooting and next year we will see again!" The diversity in the requirements (maybe not so much swimming and running) makes it colourful in my eyes and what might seem unfair considering maybe the weighting or chances like the horses looks like a chance at least in my eyes and if winning is a trophy, but losing is not a shame.
And that is why I feel getting rid of riding seems really unfair. I kind of hope, that the athletes form an association to keep it in there and then maybe call it "the classic pentathlon" or something. At least let it grow with the newer, younger athletes and let the others keep doing their thing.
Because obstacles are just another stamina based competition.
Then at least throw something in like javelin throwing maybe or something that suits this gentle(wo)men's aspect better. There is not so much that comes to my mind right now, I was trying to think of something with animals in the beginning. Dogs maybe? At least not obstacle course, that seems redundant.
I am impressed, but sad for them on the other hand. I hope they can find a good way for each of them!

I agree. Obstacle course racing seems like a totally different event and changes it from more skill based to raw athletic ability.

That’s what I was thinking. So from horseback riding to hobby horsing was my thought process 😂

If it’s more like Parkour then it could be more or less the Jason Bourne competition

Most Riders in the last Olympic pentathlon were horrible. I would never volunteer my horse to this sport.
