You NEED to visit St Fagans, the National Museum of Wales ( not far from Cardiff) - it's not like a 'normal' museum - everything is outside in acres of beautiful grounds - loads of original relocated old buildings : houses, shops, church, Mill, farmhouses etc, full of original furniture and artefacts that you can go inside and look around. And, it's totally free, except for parking. You need a whole day to visit, I've been 3 times and still not seen everything.
One of the oldest pubs in Cardiff was dismantled in around 2010 and is being rebuilt brick by brick in st fagans. Due for completion in the next few years and will be a full working pub and decorated c1900. A famous local brains house called 'The Vulcan' formally of Adam street.
I agree with you and someone said something similar to me when I took some photos not to dissimilar to the vid shots 👍🏻 To add to the Harry Potter Theme, the train was for many years down the Barry scrap yard. I had a den in it actually. It was great playground 🙂
Here’s a plan for a nice spring or summer day Ashley:- Jump on that train again, get off 10 minutes later in Caerphilly. Walk for 5 minutes to the far side of the castle. Sit on the wall overlooking the lake. Behold the other side of the hills that surround Cardiff. Take a moment to look through 360 degrees. I never tire of that. You are looking at the cradle of the industrial revolution, where coal and steel and railways came from. That, and a view familiar to Norman conquerors.
I'm English but I currently live in Cardiff and have done for like 4 years now and I love Cardiff with my whole heart!! It's so nice seeing others love this city and this country the way I do!! I definitely recommend visiting as many castles as you can! Fun Fact: Castell Coch in Cardiff is where they filmed an episode of BBC Merlin! I highly recommend a visit, it's a small but very beautiful castle. Also visit Snowdonia if you can, Mount Snowdon from the story of Merlin and the two dragons the tour guide spoke of is an extinct volcano and it's absolutely stunning! There are beautiful lakes around it too! Much love ♥
There’s loads to explore in the Newport area. Caerleon is a Roman town filled with ancient relics. I’d take a look at Rogerstone’s Fourteen Locks. Cwmcarn Drive, Wentwood and their respective viewpoints are all well worth a call. Remember to soak in stunning views at Ridgeway and Catsash.
i'm a brit born and bred lol when we moved in to our house in 2000 (my mums house when i was young) it had 5 bedrooms a very large garden and so on soon after moving in we planted a willow in the back garden , thinking it may not last i used to look after it , trim it care for it for many years it grew higher than the house , my mum passed in 2015 and we where all grown up so the house was sold on , the estate agent who was doing the selling suggested cutting down the willow which we declined to do since we planted it ...anyhow a bit further down the line an old couple came to see the house and again the estate agents suggested to them to cut down the willow as it would give them more garden space ........first thing they said is no way in hell , the lady said willows are her favorite tree's and the only reason they decided to look at this house was the size and the large willow in the garden as she asked us about it and we told her me, my brother and my dad planted it in 2000 and cared for it trimmed it and looked after it all these years and she hugged us lol and said she loved it and she wanted the house. she still lives there today and in summer she'll sit under it in the shade , her husband built a large bird table on the underneath and she'll sit and feed the birds for hours on end. that tree still stands to this day and it's a good memory for us too since we planted it from a sapling and cared for it for over 10 years.
My daughter lives on the outskirts of Cardiff - you can walk all the way into the city along the river in Bute Park. The National Museum of Wales at St Fagans, is just a few miles outside Cardiff - it's free to enter and you would love it. It's mostly outside and comprises houses and other buildings that have been moved from their original places in Wales and rebuilt /restored at St Fagans. There are houses, farmhouses, Mills, shops, church etc... from the Medieval times through to Victorian times. You are allowed to go in all the buildings ( that are furnished as they would have been at the time). It takes a whole day to walk around. I've been a few times and still not seen everything.

So nice to see your happy smiling face again. Wales is a beautiful country and I sincerely hope you will be happy there. When the warmer weather comes the beaches on Gower are gorgeous and Pembrokeshire is must for coastal scenery and the wonderful bird life.
I am watching you from my daughters home in Bridgend. Loved learning more about Wales ashamed to yes I did not know as a Welsh woman. Thanks for sharing this.👍🥰

The last time I watched a video you were in the US, I'm probably late saying welcome to the UK but it is good to see you again. I spent a lot of my preteen/teen years in Wales, it is a beautiful place.
I've lived in Wales for nearly 20 years and today is the first time I'm learning these historical facts 😁 Hope you enjoy living in Wales, it's a beautiful country ❤️
Croeso Ash. As a native Welshman, born and bred in Llanelli, I would like to welcome you to our wonderful country [yes I am biased!!]. I would love to see a video by you visiting Castell Coch [a real fairytale castle in the trees] and you really have to go to St Fagans museum just outside Cardiff. You look so happy and it is great to see that. Have followed you here and your old channel and have always loved your enthusiasm for every destination you have covered. Keep up the fantastic work!!
Excellent video, good to see you enjoying life in Wales. I made the move to South Wales coming up eight years ago and love it here. Cardiff is a great city to visit. I’ve mostly spent time in the city centre though, so will have to check out Bute park sometime. Looked lovely.
You need to take a visit to St Fagan's its an outdoor welsh life museum, its just outside cardiff. If you want to see other Welsh heritage places, there is Castell Coch in Tongwynlais, Caerphilly castle, and as you seemed to really enjoy the scenary in Bute Park I completely recommend taking a trip to Roath Park. Wales is a beautiful country, hope you get to venture outside of South Wales whilst you are here. West Wales, along the coastal path is beautiful. I am very biased with it being my home country but I do believe you will find something in every part of the country.

Love to see you having a great time in Cardiff and Wales in general. It's beautiful to see your smile back again. Wales will make you smile and you can't find more friendly people than the Welsh on the whole. May you have a time that you will really cherish while you live in Wales. xx❤
This came up on my recommended videos, started the video and realised you’re in Llantwit Major at the start! I’m from Llantwit but live in Cardiff now, so coincidental! Hope you’re enjoying it here x
Not sure which small town you are living, but Castell Coch (The Red Castle) or affectionately known as the Fairytale castle is a must view, trains travel through the village of Taffs Well which also has one of the only natural thermal springs in Wales, from the station its a medium walk to Tongwynlais village and the Castle is signposted, surrounded by beautiful woodland walks which also has caves to be seen, or other local village Nantgarw has a museum with working pottery and a display of its historical porcelain.
@@WingingItWithAsh the mountain overlooking Taffs Well is also the subject of the Hugh Grant movie "The Englishman that went up a Hill and came down a Mountain".
As the song goes, I’m “Cardiff born, Cardiff bred, when I dies I’ll be Cardiff dead” and I really enjoyed your video! The ‘underbelly’ tour sounds like it’ll be great fun, too. As everyone’s saying down here in the comments, St. Fagans is a great experience! They’ve moved entire buildings brick by brick onto site and it’s like travelling through time.
Close to the city centre is an outdoor museum called st fagans, it has buildings from different points of time in wales such as the time of the Celtics, really interesting
Definitely visit the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans. It has buildings from all over Wales that had dismantled and rebuilt in the park. There is also a museum and a castle.
I loved Cardiff, it's a really nice little city full of great people. You'll have to watch the Torchwood series, it's set in Cardiff. They have a really cool shrine there to one of the characters but I don't want to give you any spoilers.
You might want to take a trip to Big Pit in Bleanavon. its free to go in and it shows the history of coal mining in south wales that spawned the valley towns. oh and you get to go down in the mine !
Hi, Glad you're making the most of Cardiff. I live just down the road in Barry, also lots of beautiful places here e.g beach, beautiful forest walks. Just 20 minutes on the train. Hope you enjoyed the city centre!
Welcome to Wales Ash. I used to watch you ages ago and lost touch with your videos, so it's great to start following you again and in my home country. Good luck and stay safe 👍
Lovely to see you back with a travel video Ash. Informative and entertaining. You really light up the screen. Your love of travel and the people and experiences it brings shines through on camera Wishing you and Mr Ash(?) all the best for the future.
Good to have Ash back with (I hope) regular videos. So much to explore! The Gower (one of my 2 fave places), Welsh Marches (England Wales border so mostly Herefordshire/Shropshire), Big Pit, Brecon hills, Forest of Dean, Pembrokeshire, Wye valley, Barry (aka Craig & Aimee although you've already explored them). Then it's on to Mid Wales, then North Wales.....so many places, so much to see and do!
An interesting little intro to Caerdydd (Cardiff). Some of your guide's stories were somewhat out of skew, however. Gwytheyrn (Vortigen), for example, is considered a traitor by most Welsh people. He was a British chieftain in what is now Kent, who believed that by appeasing the Saxons and allowing them free access, they would become allies. He had to seek exile in Eryri (the Aerie, or Snowdonia). Merddyn Emrys (Merlin Ambrosius) was, meanwhile, a composite Romano-Celtic mythological figure who grew up at the other end of Wales in Caerfyrddin(the fort of Merlin, or Caermarthen today).
Aww, I’m so glad you’re feeling some happiness again and such a brave thing to do moving over to Wales. I’ve just caught up with your videos from the last few months (I used to follow you on your old channel…)….anyway I can’t believe you now live just over an hour from me! I hope you settle in okay….the Welsh people are amazing. I would recommend St Fagans museum - it’s wonderful. All the best 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💚🧡
How strange, I was just thinking about you and wondering how you were getting on in our beautiful country. I'm so pleased that you're enjoying your time so far. As you may have guessed by my name, I'm Welsh and live in North Wales. I was 49 when I first went to Cardiff and that was only because of work. I've since been quite a few times! Looking forward to your next vlog and seeing your lovely smiling face xxx
Wonderful Ash! Such an awesome tour! Stunning architecture almost everywhere you look! Fascinating info as well...including the story about the red dragon :) I too love weeping willows. I for sure wasn't weeping from this video! Once again your smile is brighter than the sun shine. This was also giving me Way Fam vibes ❤
Welcome to Wales. I have lived in Cardiff for 5 of the last 7 years and me and my partner are planning to move back in the summer. It’s a beautiful city and is well placed for you to explore the rest of Wales, the U.K. and also to jump off to Europe too.
It’s great to see you ‘back in the saddle’ so to speak. Your videos are always a pleasure to watch due to the informative material & your endearingly warm, lovely persona & wonderful smile. I’m looking forward to seeing more as you explore the cities & countryside. You really must get to see Wales play at the Principality Stadium as the atmosphere is phenomenal. There are numerous videos on UA-cam which will give you a basic understanding of this fantastic game. Make sure you look for the rules of Rugby Union as there is an alternative code called Rugby League & that differs in many ways. Best wishes on your travels 👍

Totally agree. I’ve been several times over the years and as they keep adding buildings there is always something new to see.

YAYYYY I live in Barry, lovely to see some representation
Welcome to Wales Ash. I used to watch you ages ago and lost touch with your videos, so it's great to start following you again and in my home country. Good luck and stay safe 👍
Thank you! Im so glad you came back!
Also at Christmas time a decently recemmend going to winter wonderland
I have always wanted to go to Wales, so I am looking forward to more.
Lovely to see you back with a travel video Ash. Informative and entertaining. You really light up the screen. Your love of travel and the people and experiences it brings shines through on camera Wishing you and Mr Ash(?) all the best for the future.
Thank you so much. It feels great to get back at what I love.
Regular videos are the plan. I’m going to do my best to share as many of my adventures. 😁
Thank you so much for the great suggestions.
I live across the bridge in Somerset and love touring around the west of England
You should add and explore Wales, too

I live in East Sussex, UK. I have been to Wales a few times. Its a lot cheaper to live there. I bet it's very different to what your use to.
Your in my city, hope you like Wales, welcome!
Awesome video. I am so glad you are happy.
Yes! Back to what I love Scott!
I went to a football play off final at the stadium in 2006 with the roof closed, the atmosphere was amazing.
Welcome to Wales. I have lived in Cardiff for 5 of the last 7 years and me and my partner are planning to move back in the summer. It’s a beautiful city and is well placed for you to explore the rest of Wales, the U.K. and also to jump off to Europe too.
ahhh coopers field. ( bute park ) spent most of my youth in this area :D
