I looked at the comments to see if I was the only one that was surprised that the blade didn't break when you were supporting the majority of the burl in your hands, and not an extension table in front (at least, better would be to create a 4x4' u shaped table to support larger pieces).
Over the years I’ve wrecked a bunch of blades slicing up firewood on my old 18” bandsaw. Eventually destroyed the tires and put a jiggle in the top wheel. 4 years ago I sold the saw for $100. I still mill up figured firewood (like yesterday) but on the new saw I use a simple 4’ sled “surfboard”. Also have a couple 1/4” plywood extension tables, a long one and a wide one. To make clamping tables or jigs to my table easier, I cutout a couple wood filler blocks that pattern fit the casting voids underside of the table and added a strong magnet to keep the blocks in place. I can pop the blocks out for use on the table saw if needed.
That is an absolutely unique pattern inside that burl. Check twice, cut once… nah measure it till it’s correct. I like your caution with such wild grained and odd shaped wood.
Nice! Yeah there are videos on this channel showing the completion of a few guitars (and basses) using these tops. Turned out really cool, good luck and have fun with your guitar making!
Nice video of a naturall burl, are there synthetic burls? Lol Most people turn the burls into pots on a lathe, first time seeing the beauty of a sliced one turning out a guitar body.👍 My next guitar build will hopefully be a burl.
do you use every piece of the cutoffs? just curious. if not do you sale your cutoffs? there is a large community of small piece uses. knife blanks, grips, pen blanks all kinds of things.
Will you epoxy the inclusions prior to making the final cut/slices? Seems like epoxying first would be the safer way to go, as the thinner the pieces get the less strength of the inclusion area.
That band saw was giving me Sopranos 'Satriale's' flashbacks (Think Richie Aprile!). I've played guitar since I was 9, and it's so interesting seeing them actually made! Thanks Shane!! 😎👍
Haha Satriales - so many little italian meat shops back east I can't wait to get back there and buy a half pound of Gabagool and some stuffed Proscuito peppers
So i know this is an older video but i just happened across it today out of curiosity what is it that you sprayed on the burl to get the grain to show up like that?
2:03 this is where you are supposed to adjust the table to angle of the cut you want, not hold it in the air. Bad craftsmanship will eventually hurt you.
Video aside which I haven't watched yet, how do you deal with so many "Social" contacts as a person with ADHD? Sorry if that's a raw question. Love what you do, Cheers.
It's very easy since I don't physically deal with anyone at all. I don't run a storefront everything's online. As for the videos and being a "public figure", To me it's just a camera and I'm talking to my future self for archival purposes.
1:50 “Screw it let’s just do it.” Lmao that’s what you say when you’re writing code, not putting your hands around tools that will cut your appendages off without dropping an rpm.
Beautiful wood but I have to throw a flag on the way you tried to lift the wood through the bandsaw. Way to unsafe!! Respect your decision but should come with a HUGE caution to viewers.
@@qwerty112311 Agree but when you read below that newbies are watching it just seems a short comment about "don't do what I do" would help. I cut 2 fingers to the bone on a band saw so I know what I am talking about here.
Leave your Safety Sally Comments Here!
No safety goggles, no ear protection, and no dust mask.
Nice puppy, had one for 21 yrs and was very smart
Great video, but how about a video on making a bandsaw extension table. 😊

Talk about a treasure hunt! A really interesting combination of grain.
Awesome! I've been waiting to see what was inside that burl since you bought it!
Me too!
Hey man I see those at work, I work at a sawmill over on west slope. We have all sorts of hardwoods kiln dried
Thanks for the video. It's snowing out in NM., And I have a couple burls I'm looking at with the weather bad out.
the focus on safety...no safety glasses
THAT'S what your safety-concerns are about? Not the oversized-free-hand-balancing-band-sawing?
That doggy is a little bit of awesome.
Sweet looking grain structure, Great buy on that chunk for sure.
Super educational, thank you.
Now I know how EBMM did the buckeye burl top on my guitar.
👍
That turned out to be an awesome piece of wood the puppy is just to cute Have a great day and prospect on
Beautiful patterns in the Maple Burl. 💚🤘👍
Giving us all the angles of slicing it up! Nice! 👍
Your dog is so cute
Do you happen to know any good gold spots in Mon Tremblant Canada I’m going on vacation there
nope check yesterday's comment replies

I'm so jealous of people that have access to stuff like this. Living in the desert makes it hard to find good wood.
Should have made a sled for the table, far safer, far more control, less waste
I am also a luthier, just an amateur. Love to see a picture of a finished guitar from one of those tops. I have the same bandsaw. Great investment.

Nice. Lots of knifehandles!
Thanks 👍
Is there such thing as a non-natural burl?
do you use every piece of the cutoffs? just curious. if not do you sale your cutoffs? there is a large community of small piece uses. knife blanks, grips, pen blanks all kinds of things.
Nice...do you have any problem with the individual slabs warping after being cut?
Only if they were wet, which thankfully they weren't. I store them upright on my shelf, kind of like books.
It would be cool to have an online store with your guitars for sale.
Kleshguitars.com has been purchased and will be online soon 👍🎸
kleshguitars.com has been purchased, will have more information on that soon.

I've cut them to just over final thickness to allow room for sanding them after they're epoxied.
My anxiety was through the roof on the first cut 🤭😂
I have a rather large Ash burl , what project would you recommend doing with it? Roughly 27”x27 and a 75” circumstance.
Could be literally anything your imagination (and tools) allow have fun!
That's a big chunk of ham bro nice job beautiful stuff sir

Denatured Alcohol. It wets the wood to show the grain, but does not raise the grain.
How much is a burl like that?
It was a couple hundred bucks, i want to say $900 but i can't remember - i'm sure I mention it in a surrounding video.
we came for the water mist...totally worth it. Subscribed
Would you recommend kiln drying cut burls if you had access to one?
I honestly don't know, especially for really thick pieces like this. not sure if the kiln would get all the way to the middle .
Really cool, man do you sell klesh guitars or anything?
Kleshguitars.com has been purchased and will be online soon
Gnarly, dude.
No gloves when using power tools.
2:03 this is where you are supposed to adjust the table to angle of the cut you want, not hold it in the air. Bad craftsmanship will eventually hurt you.
SWEET!
I thought your T-shirt was a Black metal band. Cool logo.
without a flat bottom side, your sawblade can pull and snap
What did you pay for it
I can't remember, thought I mentioned it in the video, sorry if I didn't. I think it was $600, but might have been $900
@KleshGuitarsOfficial are soft wood ones worth any money?

Hi
Is there such a thing as an unnatural burl?
Put some Merch for the dog 🐶
I volunteer to draw Timber!
I will buy dog merch
Burl Ives.
Tough puppy, not afraid of the vaccuum.
1:50 “Screw it let’s just do it.”
Lmao that’s what you say when you’re writing code, not putting your hands around tools that will cut your appendages off without dropping an rpm.
Well, i still have all 10 fingers and I plan on keeping it that way.
Love the Burl. But you’re lucky that blade didn’t break. That was wild. Plz don’t do that bro!
Beautiful wood but I have to throw a flag on the way you tried to lift the wood through the bandsaw. Way to unsafe!! Respect your decision but should come with a HUGE caution to viewers.
If you’re looking at UA-cam creators for safety advice, you’re already cooked. But yea, that was painful to watch.

We do not need your sort! Go correct a toddler somewhere and leave the adulting to the adults!
I think I should have done something like 50 smoking pipes :D
😊
Absolutely silly that freezing is 32 in Fahrenheit
REALLY bad technique on that bandsaw.
I was surprised the table didn't tilt. (maybe it does) Would have been a lot safer for sure.
