      Just the meals alone pays for everything if hes that close. Where else can you eat half the year for 80-100 bucks. That's a huge savings.

    Yay, memberships! Let's take the season pass holders and give them the middle finger and take away all their benefits.

    • @grobble8954
      @grobble8954 5 років тому +24

      Yes, they stripped all the benefits from Gold Pass forcing people to get at least Gold Plus membership to get the previous benefits, which comes at a $15 to $20 higher cost depending on the park. The trade off is it's a small monthly payment instead of a lump sum with a pass, so many people don't mind. The monthly is enticing to those buying 3 or 4 passes for a family over a lump sum.

    • @digdougx
      @digdougx 5 років тому +29

      As a business model the memberships make sense. I would rather pay a few bucks a month than a big lump sum. I really don't see much overall downside to the membership system. I can have a Six Flags diamond elite membership for far less than an LA Fitness membership.

    • @grobble8954
      @grobble8954 5 років тому +6

      @@digdougx The potential downside to memberships is the business gives away pricing power to an extent. People in general seem to be "more cranky" about a membership going up in price over a pass. Several companies across industries have done research on the "push back" can be substantial on raising a membership price. Cedar Fair specifically said it's one of the reason they aren't keen on membership, they think they lose some pricing power. Some studies back that notion up. CF would rather offer the monthly payments on passes & feel they can do yearly price increases with less push back than in a membership model.

    • @AirtimeThrills
      @AirtimeThrills  5 років тому +16

      This is basically true. Most of the people I go to the park with still have a gold pass. It gets them into every Six Flags park and gets free parking, and they add on all season dining. It works for them. True there aren't many passholder-only perks anymore but for the casual park goer its still fine.

    • @AmusementLabs
      @AmusementLabs 5 років тому +4

      @@grobble8954 but also there's security deposits and transaction fees and city fees. Fees as far as the eye can see. And you sign a contract and if you miss a payment it goes to collections after a bit which hurts your credit score and it's just too much of a hassle. Plus if you want to cancel, good luck as they've complicated their system and you have to do it months in advance. It's designed to trap you.

      Sorry Hola, the worst SF park I've been to, coasters not ready at opening, caused huge lines. 4 coasters closed. Thank good SFMM and the 2 Cedar Fair parks made our cross country visit a success. On a good note, we loved Joker, and the food was pretty good. The wait for the bus from preferred parking was well over a half hour. The walk from the hotel, 10 minutes.

      Scott Matta I know it’s not the best but it’s far closer than Great America to me so it’s the only park I get to go to often. I just wish that it didn’t have the 150ft height limit

    • @TS_Mind_Swept
      @TS_Mind_Swept 5 років тому +2

      hola - height limits aren’t even that big of a deal though since many of my favorite rides are close to or within that range anyway; take terminator salvation at Six Flags Magic Mountain, that ride is barely over 100 feet, yet it’s my favorite wooden coaster so far, and one of my favorite coasters of all time. Twisted colossus is also in that range, and somehow manages to be better than most of the rides taller than it (especially that snoozer that tries to tower above it >.>), it’s not about the height of the space, it’s how you use them.

    • @hola-ct9ox
      @hola-ct9ox 5 років тому +2

      0MindSwept0 you have a point. A lot of RMCs are under 150 feet but it would still be nice to have the option to go over it. For example, vertical velocity had to be shortened because of it (I do find the backwards corkscrew cool) but it would still be nice to be able to have a coaster over 150ft. It’s not gonna happen for SFDK at this point and considering it’s far from a top tier park. Back in 2000 they could’ve made Medusa taller which could be cool.

    I love the diamond elite membership.i think it’s really good if your going with multiple people to the park and you find yourself eating in the park more than not. For a family of 3 on average you could normally spend around 60$ for dining one meal at a six flags park now that total gets cut to 30$ . The 2 skip the line passes are nice as I travel a lot. So when I have limited time at the theme parks that’s helps out a bunch. The preferred parking is nice especially for my home park Great Adventure because the walk from the back of the parking lot is a haul when the lots get filled especially around fright fest. And bro like you said for someone like myself who likes to get a ton of merch when I go to theme parks, the Wal-Mart prices are quite nice.

    I got a gold plus membership this past year and it was really nice to have, as a (former) college student it was great to not have to pay up front and the $8/mo basically went unnoticed. I only managed to make it to SFNE but I went several times and the free parking and bring a friend deals (I think I went on a $20 friend day) were completely worth it. Even though I didn’t visit any other six flags parks, the membership ended up being much better than a season pass.

    50% off and fright fest wristbands were the winning points for me. I haven’t gone in almost 10 years before this February, so to be able to go with all these perks is way nicer than I remember season passes. And I’m able to take both my kids who respectively have a platinum and gold pass because they don’t go as often or need the benefits I get because I’m the one buying everything anyway. My kids dad pays for the gold pass for my youngest and I pay for my oldests platinum plus dining pass, for about $34 a month when we go multiple times a month it’s so worth it.cheaper than taking the family to a movie

    I love my diamond elite membership, the 50% off discount is huge. Also you forgot one thing, that 50% also discounts the dining pass so you pay less for the dining pass (I think the dining pass costs just over 4 bucks a month with DE). I found the diamond elite with dining pass comes to just under what the Cedar Fair platinum + dining + drink comes to per month, and I find I get much more from it than the Cedar Fair one, since they only give you a 20% discount. However I am also someone who hits Magic Mountain on a weekly basis.

    I had a membership for a year to Diamond and we used it to visit the two six flags parks in Texas on multiple occasions including the water parks. The perks were nice and we enjoyed the parks. Since we live in Arkansas we decided to drop the membership this year. It sucks that you have to give Six Flags three months' notice before you end the membership. I know its in the fine print but that was money that could have been better spent elsewhere. I personally think they should abandon season passes and go strictly with the different memberships but offer a method to prepurchase the membership for a annual rate for a nice discount. They need to simplify the model and make the whole operation less confusing. We will consider going with a new membership in a few years but right now we want to save up for a different kind of vacation.

    Great job explaining all the benefits! It really will help people to figure out what is best for them & their plans. For me personally, the gold pass is still easily the best option. At Frontier City or SFOT, I can get the gold pass every Labor Day weekend for around $66, $80 after fees. The gold membership would be $100 after fees, plus the refundable deposit, so a bigger difference than SFMM. There aren't any of the gold membership benefits that I would take much advantage of. I did the dining plan last year, and I figured out that I saved another $40 by doing gold pass plus dining vs membership plus dining, so around $60 total saved. Plus, I personally hate monthly fees. I want to pay it all up front, and have an expiration date, no need to cancel.

    I am a Diamond Elite member and I've had to fight to get my free Flash Pass level upgrade at 4 Six Flags parks this year. They will only offer the $15 discount and not the upgrade. I show them a copy of the member benefits from the website and they have had to get the manager to give me the upgrade from gold to platinum for free. Has anyone else had this issue?

    So I live less than 15 minutes from SF MM in So Cal. I'm visiting the park once or twice a week for a couple of hours at a time - grab a snack and meal, use my skip-the-line passes and jump on a couple rides, then head home - without spending a dime out of pocket at the park. I stopped getting my hopes up for priority preferred parking though, it's a pain to score a reservation in the small lot next to the entrance. But man the membership is totally worth it for someone like me.

    IDK what people are complaining about. I think the memberships are great. I started with a gold season pass for a few years and last year I upgraded to a diamond elite membership and I love it. I try to go 1 to 2 times a month even if it’s for an afternoon. I pay a little over 20$ a month and basically don’t have to spend any more money there if I don’t want to. Maybe like 10$ on food if I’m there all day lol. Other parks are way more expensive and I can go to any six flags and have the same benefits. I feel like the last few years SFMM has been doing a better job keeping this park up and I’m happy to pay a little extra if it’s going to improve my park experience 😁 ✌️

I think if I were doing better financially and planned to travel to visit a bunch of parks throughout the year, I'd probably end up going with the Elite too. I haven't had a SF pass since 2001 because I live an hour east of Cedar Point and there just isn't any parks close enough. So when they bought Darien Lake (again) and Cedar Point wasn't building a coaster I figured I could get the Darien Lake credits and SF Great America credits for $65 plus travel expenses. I couldn't pass it up! I could see Diamond Elite being a good value if you're close or doing a road trip. Another great video!

    For me, the Platinum or Diamond is more than great of a membership tier. But the discounts kick in. Because the membership discount amounts change, the cost of a Diamond with flash pass and dining is within $2 per month the same as a Diamond elite with the same add ons. So I may as well go elite for the extra bonuses

    Great video. Was a tough debate for me during the Flash Sale but I ultimately got the Season Pass with Dinning. Was really considering getting a Season Flash Pass due to my work schedule and only having time on the weekends when rides are super packed. That’s a lot of mula though and it only applies to MM and not the other parks I plan to go to in the next year, and information on the charge for additional riders was extremely vague.
    I wish Flash Pass discounts were applied to all pass holders, they’d honestly might get more money out of me that way than an elite membership. Also, If your at the park this Friday look for me at X2 at midnight. Gonna be my first ride as a 26 year old!

    I've had a diamond elite pass for more than a year now, and I'm still amazed at how much money I'm saving with it. So far I've visited Over Texas twice, St Louis once, and Fiesta Texas every week. I've noticed some weird things with Fiesta Texas however. There is no membership-only entrance, there are multiple lounges throughout the park, and the Joker skip the line passes are only available for gold and platinum members. I guess this makes sense because Diamond and Diamond Elite members get ERT about once a month. But by far the strangest quirk of this membership is that you only have access to rsvp park perks at the home park specified when the membership was purchased. So I bought my Diamond Elite membership at Over Texas, and I wanted to rsvp for the Fiesta Texas 2020 preview event. I was unable to do so because Fiesta Texas was not specified as my home park (Over Texas was). The event did not show up in my membership portal. The only way around this was to cancel the membership and pay for a new one with Fiesta Texas as my home park. It all worked out, but beware of special events not at your home park.

    I’ve been a Diamond Elite member for almost 2 years now and I have no complaints at all. Its only $25 a month with the dining pass and it pretty much pays for itself with just one visit per month. Parking alone is like $20 a trip. Then when you factor in the 2 meals and a snack per visit, theres no beating it.
    My only issue is the fact that you cant skip a month or two and then reactivate the pass. My home park (Over Georgia) isn’t a year round park so there’s roughly two months where you can’t use it even though you’re still expected to pay your monthly fee. I know I could use it at Magic Mountain during the time Over Georgia is closed, but it’s not like Magic Mountain is a 15 minute drive away like Over Georgia is.

It gets me the one skip the line so when I travel I can knock out the best or second best ride with a minimum wait, or a ride that is a capacity nightmare. In 2020 I'm looking at Great Adventure and New England trips, possible Six Flags America (Really I care about Kings Dominion and BG Williamsburg) as well as Magic Mountain being my home park and it is fairly likely that I end up at Great America once each year due to business trip in that area, as well as a possible weekend trip to No Cal. I end up going like 2-3 times during Freight Fest, but I'm more interested in coaster night rides on X2, Tatsu, and Twisted Colossus than the mazes. I've got a Gold season pass (during the Labor Day sale, if you buy a regular season pass, you get a gold upgrade). All I care about are coasters. I don't do anything else in the park, and I often don't eat there, or only eat something small, so most of the member perks are irrelevant to me. But I do travel a handful of times a year on business, and having the option to just drop by the local Six Flags, whether it's for a full day or a few hours, is worth the price. Membership doesn't add enough for me to consider it -- I took the money I saved and bought a Cedar Fair Platinum pass. The membership program is really good at making passholders feel like second-class citizens, so if that's what Six Flags is shooting for, then job done.

Flash pass was bought 3 times and skip the lines were used where we could. Preferred parking on all 13 visits. 50% off was used from flip flops to hoodies, and saved a bunch of money. Free hotels for 13 nights and a cross country plane flight all for about $1500. Great deal.

    Wow that is crazy I am going to pay 5600 dollars for Disney in California for 4 tickets. 365 days a year and parking. Looks like you are getting a better deal than me.
