Red velvet cake IS NOT just chocolate cake dyed red. I think the whole reason red velvet cake existed was to have a special cake even during rationing times. It has buttermilk/vinegar mixed in the batter to create a reaction to make a fluffy cake. Beet juice was used back then, in addition to coloring, to fill up a cake to keep it moist instead of the rationed butter. There used to be non-dutch processed cocoa that had the reaction that turned the cake red, but nowadays the cocoa is processed so that reaction can't occur anymore. I'm definitely splitting hairs here, but the red was to compensate for the ration of different ingredients not to add to an already beloved rich chocolate cake. There's also a lot of different people claiming to have created the cake first or been the ones to add food coloring first so check out some history about this cake if you are interested. In conclusion, it's probably cheaper and easier nowadays to just put red 40 in the mix then try to balance the liquid of beet juice or other natural colorings like when people were rationing ingredients. So unless Bettel got organic red velvet cake or no artificial color red velvet cake, he probably didn't have beets...at least in any direct connection. I love red velvet cake so thanks for reading if you got this far.
This is kind of right and kind of wrong. Since the chef in charge of my internship when I was in training loved to bonk food history into my skull, here's a bit of clarification. The red velvet is a cake from the Victorian era when using cacao was all the rage in high society, it was far too expensive for the commoner and poor people. Natural cocao powder, aside from flavour, with it's acidic properities was used to turn the cake fluffy, soft and give it the famous red color. There was zero beets originally, it was a cake for the rich upperclass. It is far from as bright red as it's modern common versions. The beet juice story is from the World War 2 where canned beets were one of the few unrationed foods. This meant there was a lot of leftover juice and it was only natural to add a red coloring agent to turn the reddish-brown velvet more red. Seeing the red velvet regaining popularity a food coloring company started packaging the recipe with their red food color and here we are with the modern vibrant red red velvet (that sounded odd). It's a curious recipe since it sort of came in three steps and we know exactly when and why it happened. You can buy natural cocao powder in most large grocery stores if you want to try to bake an original red velvet. 😊
IIRC It's also an additional reason why the chocolate vs red velvet cake flavour debate is a thing because, before all the commercial versions used nearly flavourless red food dye, there WAS technically a difference in the past.
Beet is a very very common food colorant actually. And is often used in the more high end/expensive/organic red velvet cakes, instead of red#40 which is made from coal.
Even after their debut day. I quite adore the energy and the way these 4 bounce off each other. ^^ I deffo look forward to a chaotic day when all 8 of the bois are in the same game jeering at each other. XD It'll be comedy gold
That was probably one of the original versions of a Red Velvet cake. Originally they were made with beet juice for the coloring. He's not lying, but they are more often made with artificial red dyes now instead of beets.
So....Bettel's nemesis: Beets, while Hakka's: Soy Milk....idk if Shinri shared the same sentiment, but Ollie made him her nemesis, and lastly, Flayon.....was it wasps or insects in general? . Anyways, seems like each and every one of them have unique nemesis (unless for Flayon, cuz bugs are mostly people's nemesis)

I thought red velvet was dyed vanilla

@@Jektastic oooh so there truly was a bunch of interations, how cool thanks!
I was in denial over the fact that red velvet cake used red coloring, I didn't know it has such history, thank you for the enlightenment 😂
The more you know, thanks for the fac :D
Tbf, traditionally red velvet cake was colored using beets, these days they just use food coloring. So Hakka would be correct
IIRC It's also an additional reason why the chocolate vs red velvet cake flavour debate is a thing because, before all the commercial versions used nearly flavourless red food dye, there WAS technically a difference in the past.
Yeah back in the day the beets kept the cake soft and stopped it going dry
Hakka is telling the truth but we have modern food colouring now and even vegan food coloring so no need to use beet juice.
The rage in his voice at the mention of beets 😂
Bettel doesn't just get blown up by bombs. He is also the bomb. In multiple senses.
Yeah the man is pretty explosive
I love his hatred towards beets during his debut xD
In all fairness granulated sugar comes from sugar beets. So, he's technically not lying.
wait I thought all sugar came from sugarcanes
@@tlshortyshorty5810 There's different sources, just depends on which plant is easier to grow/process in the location.

basically
Flay: Who hurt you?
Bettel: Beets hurt me!
🐦🏹🤖: **Trying to exist**
🤡: omg wtf..

Can you imagine an Among us Collab with all of Tempus? That would be chaos
They could all play Smash Ultimate together.
1:12 when hakka in the background is just going "no, no" in little font lol
bro youre editing is insane, it makes it somehow even more funny
technically hakka's not lying. usually they use beet juice instead of red food coloring for a more natural red color
I love these guys and their chaotic dynamic.
It depends. Some red food colorings are made with insects. So his red velvet cake might have coloring made from beets or bugs.
Hakka, my dear, I love you for this 😭💕
i love their interactions hhahaha
No clipper, he tells the truth
It doesnt have to use Beet juice for the red coloring, recipe we had in our fam it was beets but plenty others it is just red food coloring.
don’t worry, beets, you can color my cake anytime
i will have you know that this is my first actual experience with anyone from hololive, so. notable first impression.
lmao and you literally watched the NEWEST members that debuted the day before
The boys starting it on a roll, still in the back of my head bettel sounds so like jesse eisenberg 😂 makin me watch his streams more.
I'm digging the new endcard. I'm glad Tempus has two jesters now
Lol, running off of "one tiny little cake"🎂 wtf
Bettel should probably avoid the Raft game. One of the food items to survive on it is beets
Red Velvet used to be made with beets for dye, he's not lying
I mean I did see a chocolate beet cake being made and it looked like red velvet (source b dylan hollis)
That was probably one of the original versions of a Red Velvet cake. Originally they were made with beet juice for the coloring. He's not lying, but they are more often made with artificial red dyes now instead of beets.
Korone ROFL's when she heard them saying it multiple times
Bettel vs. Beets. 😂

Insects in general except for Pilar bugs or something.
Now I need a Bettel borscht stream
It may not be beets but it is probably red bugs for the color.
I feel offended so much... XD
I love Shiri's wheezes
omg gavis bettel out here promoting Red Velvet the girl group ever 😍 he was so real for that
😂😂💖
Ladies and gents you heard it here first he has a tiny cake 😏
why i feel "Narator" vibe from Jasuke
imagine going out of your way to make yourself hate a food you like, only bettel lol
