as a muslim myself, I'm glad that Bataknese also build Jesus statue - said to be the highest in the world - just like other statues in the eastern part of Indonesia I mean, like what Cheyne'd said about the blend in Indonesia ... largest muslim population, biggest buddhist temple, tallest Jesus statue, as well as Bali as the signature of Hinduism in Southeast Asia ... what else can we ask ?? Great video. As part of a twelve month trip from July 1998 to July 1999 travelling all around Indonesia (Bali 3 weeks. Maluku 7 weeks. Java 3 months. Sumatra 3 months. Aceh 2 months + 5 visa hops to Singapore and Malaysia), my girlfriend of the time, Jackui O'Brien and I, bought a new 250 cc motorbike in Jakarta in Oct. 1998 that we rode through Java, Sumatra, Aceh and back to Jakarta. We spent two months living in Tuk Tuk, Danau Toba from 23/12/1998 to 22/1/199. We rode all around Danau Toba on two occasions and explored most of the island. That lookout at the top I have walked up there many times from Tomok village itself. In the 70s and 80s there was a walk track up the side of the mountain and you could walk up to that very spot, no cars or motorbikes then because there was no roads to speak of. The main village at the top is called Rongurni Huta and I remember the thick fog rolled in about 4 o clock every afternoon, after that no visibility. there was also a walk track up the side from Ambarita which I only walked a few times. And nearly all was forest, they cut most of the trees down now. Last time I did it was 1990s and I got attacked by dogs on the trail which was barely evident because no one uses it now so I called it a day. But I havent been to Samosir since 2012 when we went to the markets in Pangaruran on a futile quest looking for buffalo milk and I got questioned by an over zealous police officer as to why I was taking a photo of the main street. thanks for the video, brought back a few memories.

It is the largest volcanic lake in the world, and I think the second one is Lake George in NY. If you guys are still in lake toba, you can try staying in a tabo cottage and you gonna see magnificent views over lake toba and the mountains. The place is vey nice and clean and food so delicious. Enjoy ur time and God bless.

I’m so happy guys see ur lovely video from Lake Toba, the place where my grandpa and my grandma came from. It is the largest volcanic lake in the world, and I think the second one is Lake George in NY. If you guys are still in lake toba, you can try staying in a tabo cottage and you gonna see magnificent views over lake toba and the mountains. The place is vey nice and clean and food so delicious.
