      was he though? or was he an iron fisted madonna type behind the scenes to the sycophants : how was he with all his power toward beautiful ladies that did anything he asked ? and was he a humanitarian on the side feeding the poor and helping musicians in the gutter? maybe so maybe no how was he on speaking up about human rights issues wrt those with mental illnesses and the poor? or was he just selfish with his wealth? it’s a shame he didn’t get political and fight for social justice causes for the poor and mentally ill that’s the tragedy still thanks for the fantasy nostalgia for a better era i never got to enjoy

    Bowie's sexuality just doesn't matter anymore. He's been happily married to the same woman for how many years now? Like 20? The thing that's still actually impressive is that he even made it out of the 70's and 80's alive.

      @SheWoreLemon83 8 років тому +50

      +SheWoreLemon83 That's your personal opinion. Since Bowie varied so much on this topic, there is no definite truth. The same goes for his crossdressing and androgynism. If you watch his videos closely, from beginning to the very end, there's always this fluidity that is apparent. Even in Valentine's Day from 2013 there's a lady who plays his younger self, not a man.

    I remember in 1983 Bowie stated that sexually speaking, he had tried every bad thing that you could ever imagine. He also stated at that time that he had been tested for AiDS and was amazed that he hadn't contracted it. Really glad that he eventually met the love of his life, Iman, and enjoyed many years of marital bliss with her. So very sad that he died of cancer at the age of 69, leaving a grieving widow and teenage daughter behind. R.I.P. David Bowie. You are sorely missed.

      @@Nuffsed81It's likely that when Bowie refers to "bad" sex he means "unsafe" sex. I.E. engaging in penetrative sex without condoms, as many gay men in the 80s and 90s contracted aids from such activity. It's sort of a way of implying he had sex with men without outright stating he had such feelings since queer identities were only starting to enter the public awareness in that time so it would be rather risky for him to openly express his sexuality

      @GenuineHeather 8 років тому +41

      +Joan C It's fine that you are heterosexual. What I mean is that it's perfectly normal and natural for human sexuality to exist in a spectrum, rather than a rigid duality. If you are truly at one extreme end of that spectrum, there's nothing wrong with that. But to be clear, that actually puts you in the minority. Most people have, at various times in their lives, had sexual feelings for someone of the same gender. Not everyone acts on those feelings, but they are there just the same, and they're perfectly natural. But our society--largely due to the pressure of religion--has widely condemned such feelings. It has only been very recently that our culture has grown more accepting and understanding of such natural tendencies. Yet those feelings are actually the source of a great deal of homophobia and transphobia. The "wrongness" of those feelings are so ingrained, that when a supposedly "straight" person experiences them, they become enraged and blame "homosexuality". Sad.

      Gay, bi, and hetero only sex are all normal. But it's clear what the majority and minority is. I've looked up the stats, as pasted below.
      1. Nearly 13% of women between the ages of 18-44 said that they were attracted to both sexes.
      2. The percentage of men who self-identify as bisexual in the 18-44 age demographic: 1.8%.

    That what he said to Blender in 2002 (the question was about his statement in 1983 of being a 'closet heterosexual') : "I don't think it was a mistake in Europe, but it was a lot tougher in America. I had no problem with people knowing I was bisexual. But I had no inclination to hold any banners nor be a representative of any group of people." Bowie said he wanted to be a songwriter and performer rather than a headline for his bisexuality, and in "puritanical" America, "I think it stood in the way of so much I wanted to do".
    So, he said he was straight for marketing, to sell more albums since Americans didn't tolerate bisexuality too much (For example, when Queen dressed in drag for the video of I want to Break Free, even if it was just a parody of a soap opera, in that way they lost the US market.

I had been led to believe it was quite a recent term (like 2015ish) but now learning it was a term used since around the year I was born and most likely even before. I still get funny looks and questions when people learn that I'm pansexual as if it is a recent term, but no, these terms have been around longer than people like to believe or let on.

    Bowie was so classy and was so: not in anyone's face about his personal life or his sexual proclivities. And not that he wanted us to, but his polite and witty refusal to fuel or to feed too much into these types of questions made many of us want to go to him even more to try to satisfy our curiosities. Personally, I didn't care one way or another about it and besides, it was really none of my business. The world is no longer the same without him in it! What a grade A class act David Bowie was! Bowie was strung out on coke for most of the 70s and into the 80s. He was probably experimenting (totally natural) and then, because of the coke (and the shock value) he told the press. He could be bisexual and hiding it still, or he could have been bicurious and then experienced it for himself and figured it wasn't for him. It's not a big deal and it has nothing to do with the quality of his music
