When i was a nosy teenager i read up on Davids sexuality, thinking there'd be something concrete over time. When i found basically nothing i was a bit surprised but it taught me an important lesson of how people love him and are inspired by him and didn't care about the shit that happened in his personal life. As someone who is pansexual, this is the first time hearing the term pansexual from this far back. I had been led to believe it was quite a recent term (like 2015ish) but now learning it was a term used since around the year I was born and most likely even before. I still get funny looks and questions when people learn that I'm pansexual as if it is a recent term, but no, these terms have been around longer than people like to believe or let on.

I think the big statement about it in the early 70s press ("Bowie Admits Being Bisexual" etc. etc.) was more of a very positive cultural/political move than a personally relevant one.
I've loved Bowie like no other artist since the 70s. It feels good that so many generations love him too now.

Thank goodness that Bowie helped make it be that being straight, gay or etc. doesn't matter but that what the person is, and in his case, what work he produces, matters most.

There are many articles about Bowie and Jagger getting together. Who cares? David is easily one of the classiest musicians EVER.

Bowie said he wanted to be a songwriter and performer rather than a headline for his bisexuality, and in "puritanical" America, "I think it stood in the way of so much I wanted to do".
So, he said he was straight for marketing, to sell more albums since Americans didn't tolerate bisexuality too much (For example, when Queen dressed in drag for the video of I want to Break Free, even if it was just a parody of a soap opera, in that way they lost the US market.

As someone who is pansexual, this is the first time hearing the term pansexual from this far back. I had been led to believe it was quite a recent term (like 2015ish) but now learning it was a term used since around the year I was born and most likely even before. I still get funny looks and questions when people learn that I'm pansexual as if it is a recent term, but no, these terms have been around longer than people like to believe or let on.
Ehm ... the term "pan" means everything in ancient Greek (from 1500 BC to 300 BC), so how could anyone think that 'pansexual' was coined recently ? 🤦♂

Bowie was so classy and was so: not in anyone's face about his personal life or his sexual proclivities. And not that he wanted us to, but his polite and witty refusal to fuel or to feed too much into these types of questions made many of us want to go to him even more to try to satisfy our curiosities. Personally, I didn't care one way or another about it and besides, it was really none of my business. The world is no longer the same without him in it! What a grade A class act David Bowie was! I really miss him.

Bowie was strung out on coke for most of the 70s and into the 80s. He was probably experimenting (totally natural) and then, because of the coke (and the shock value) he told the press. He could be bisexual and hiding it still, or he could have been bicurious and then experienced it for himself and figured it wasn't for him. It's not a big deal and it has nothing to do with the quality of his music
