There’s no such thing as infinite money. When people see essential services and business leave their community, they’re shocked. But you shouldn’t be. If you don’t have a basic understanding of economics you never understand why these things happen. How does the government get its money? From taxes. In order to fund these projects that would mean taxes would have to go up. If you’re paying more money in taxes, that means your standard of living goes down because you now have less money to spend on yourself. To add insult to injury, your money would be going to fund medical care in a community that does nothing to find the legitimate funds to cover the cost themselves, with all the crime, drug dealing, and illegal activity that goes on over there. Do you want your standard of living to go down, along with the available amount of money you can spend on you and your family (disposable income) to fund someone else’s life when they won’t even lift a finger to better themselves? How much of your yearly income are you willing to pay to the government to make this happen? A third? Half? If you think this sounds crazy, it’s not. This is the reality in many countries like Canada, Norway, and Finland. Their tax rates are astronomical! Imagine making $100k a year and bringing home less than $45k. Is that what you want?

@@leroyjenkins4811 you had me up until referencing the “crime & illegal activity” as an apparent cause. First of all that has nothing to do with how funding is is given to various parts of the city: funding in US cities is done by the wealth of that specific area which is rooted in racism and classism. Funding should be given to all parts of the community equally so that everyone is given the same chance. This happens back in Chicago however I got news for you as I am from there…no matter where you go in the city with the exception of the white owned catholic hospitals meant for their white congregations…top of the line. So you are completely ass backwards. This community regardless of crimes, it is vital they have a hospital and if you chose to actually do any research at all you would know that this particular hospital had racist staff, seemingly not the best doctors or nurses either, sure they’re not all bad but go check out those reviews….This community should expect a hospital and I hope they get a fantastic one, next step should be ensuring the schools in that neighborhood are up to the same standards as the ones in the nice communities. Not doing so is racist. Everyone is a product of their environment with the exception of the few who miraculously break the mold..you’re not one of those ppl clearly so have some sympathy for your peers. Just because you may have grown up in a nice neighborhood does not mean you deserve better than someone who doesn’t.

Expanding Medicare wouldn’t have saved that hospital. And don’t blame the Republicans either. It’s a matter of economics. The hospital was losing money because they were trying to treat too many uninsured or underinsured minority patients. Medical care cost. It cost the patients and it cost the providers. Supplies, salaries for staff, expertise for specialty care, etc. Medicare wouldn’t have helped because even when a patient has Medicare, Medicare hardly ever covers the full cost of the treatments. There’s the cost the hospital charges for the treatment and then there’s what Medicare will actually pay. Medical providers can either accept or reject the Medicare payments. Medicare actually pays so little (and they take so long to pay due to government backlogs, 6-18 months sometimes. Imagine running your facility at a constant deficit because you can never get paid on time), many providers and doctors refuse to take patients with Medicare. Medicare sucks. Let’s not forget, hasn’t Grady almost closed numerous times in the last few years because they were in debt? When has Grady never been in debt and not operating at a deficit? When the cost of providing medical care exceeds the amount of profit you’re making or you can’t even break even, it’s time to close shop. You can’t afford to stay in business any longer. No one can provide medical care at a loss to themselves. It’s not economically viable.
My suggestion? If you can afford to move out of Fulton county, do it. It’s a sinking ship. I’d rather go to hell than go to Grady. I lived in the metropolitan Atlanta area all my life until about 8 years ago, mostly Fulton and Dekalb counties. I have NEVER set foot in Grady, not even to visit anybody, and I never will. I’ve heard too many horror stories and too many people have died up in there. That place is evil and haunted.

You forgot the 20 to 30 illegal aliens each of these hospitals treat every day--every bill on average is about 7k--so you can times that number by 20 to 30 each day--in addition to what you described. And yes Fulton county is now a liberal hellhole that is collapsing--i left ATL in 2008 after they kept raising taxes and calling good ol whiteys racist for every probelm.buckhead and johns creek are also actively pursuing breaking off from Fulton and with good reason--all they do is take our money and call us racists as they give medical care and other freebies to not only freeloaders--but to anyone around the world that can get there.bTW goto any of these hospitals and it will look like the open border--I also would never use these hospitals.Took a roomate once for food poisoning in 2007--7 hour wait and she got a bag of IV fluid and anti nausea pill and a 4k effing bill so she could pay for all the freeloaders and illegals that were there.owebamacare--medicare--medicaid--these libs do not realize they pay pennies on the dollar and reimburse so low that the hospital loses money on it.Doing 2k worth of work on someone and then medicaid pays the hospital 75 dollars--then people who pay wonder why a broken foot generates a 35k bill.

You keep voting for Democrats and nothing ever changes. They promise you a bunch of free stuff they couldn’t possibly deliver in exchange for your vote yet you never get anything that actually helps you and you’re not in a position to help yourself. Yet you’re too afraid to vote for Republicans and capitalism because of so-called racism, when in fact, the Democrats are the most racist of all, considering they are the political party that supported keeping slavery an institution, started the civil war, and opposed every piece of civil rights legislation up until the ‘60. These are historical facts. The Democrats never stopped being racist. They just changed tactics to hide it better. And don’t think just because they have a few token blacks working for them that anything has changed. Those blacks (like Stacy Abrams) don’t care about black people. If she did, she’d be trying to lower crime in these areas, increase school standards, bring in businesses so people can have jobs, and provide funding for better policing. Instead she’s trying to expand welfare and social services to keep people useless and dependent upon the state. Stacy Abrams and the Democrats are not friends to blacks and minorities.
