I think skipping the biased cognition was pretty bad. You have 2 core surges in your deck so it’s very easy to play and one biased cog triples the efficacy of your frost orbs
@@jackjack3472 Biased Cognition, as a burst card, is totally unparalleled. Echo Form, with a higher top-end, is still so expensive for the value it generates; we're discussing two S-Tier cards here, but Biased is straight-up better if you already have Artifact and can only choose 1.
@@jackjack3472Biased Cognition is to Defect as Corruption is to Ironclad. The downside is intimidating to new players, but once you learn how to use it effectively it becomes clear that it is by far the best card in the character's line up.
Mr. Egg I still believe you vastly underrate how bad curses are. Especially on the Defect, you really want to get rid of every strike if you can. Just because you can remove a curse doesnt mean it isnt a very bad, long term hurt to your deck. A lot of high ascension players basically never take a curse, because drawing a basic card is barely better than drawing an injury.
Love the series. Massively underrating bias cog in these runs though. Dont think of it as bringing your orbs down to zero, think of it as a "does this kill everything in 4/5 turns?" button (hint: it usually does)
This series got me playing slay the spire again, and I’d forgotten how great it is. I’ve been playing along with Ryan and won my ascension 11 run yesterday utilizing an upgraded reprogram. I’d never really played around with that card too much before, and holy cow is it strong. I paired it with a couple upgraded holograms and rebound, and I’d end up with 10+ dex and strength by turn 3 🤣 I then got hyperbeam from a boss and stumbled into a fusion; after that the game became a cakewalk. It’s so cool that even after all these years I’m still finding new ways to play characters. If you’ve never tried this game before, and you’re at least somewhat into the genre, you need to give it a shot.
Watching Egg pass over Biased Cognition every time causes me physical pain. My brother in Christ it’s basically free for 4 turns and only really hurts you in boss/long battles. This is even more true when you have artifact like this build had.
Echo Form is a Power card for The Defect that bestows a powerful card-doubling effect at a high price. As a Rare card, Echo Form is generally obtainable as a Boss reward and at high cost from The Merchant. However, it can rarely drop from an Elite or even a normal Monster. Upgrading Echo Form causes it to lose the Ethereal keyword.

The Codex is incredibly strong. It's also incredibly annoying. I always reset when I get it because it's strong enough to be worth the points But having a card choice every single turn drags out the game long enough so I could fit a second run in.
By the way, equilibrium is the best defect card. Unless you have runic pyramid, I always take it from card rewards, not always a shop buy in the late game, but in the early game it usually is. It lets you hold onto an echo form for a turn where you take less damage, lets you hold onto bias cog until you get core surge, hold your power until you get amplify. And even outside of that, it lets you block big damage so you can deal more damage on the next turn.
Your videos have gotten me back into the game again, it's been super fun to watch! I have thought of some advice now that I've played a bit more again: Unceasing top is a win condition on its own, and completely negates the need for card draw. If you ever find one, cards like recycle and double energy become must-haves, however you need to consider what to do if you have any debuffs in your deck (This makes that medkit relic very useful) Steam Barrier is actually quite good, because you usually don't loop through your deck that many times during a battle, and if you find anything like Kunai it basically negates the -1 defense. One big thing with Defect is balancing between free cards and card draw, making the card draw more valuable even with low energy. One thing I notice in a few of your runs is that you get a lot of card draw, but then aren't able to play a lot of cards in your hand With the Time Keeper, a 0-cost deck is still quite good, because it's better to be able to force them to 12 than be stuck at 9 and only able to play a few cards next turn for example. The relic that makes you start with plasma can make you go infinite with cards like Recursion. I had a 1-turn kill build that made use of this because I kept drawing cards, playing them, evoking the plasma for 2 more energy, and repeating. It's worse in some ways than the other energy relics, but there's a lot of potential too
This run had the same energy as that hitman run NL did where he made that extremely complicated plan to set the guy on fire but still won Incomprehensible but still impressive

@@mawillix2018 Yeah but those are already in your deck! Youre adding +1 draw to a card. Every card you add to the deck must be drawn. Imagine a 5 card deck, 4 strikes, and a Wraith Form. Your goal is to get the Wraith Form. Your only 5 card draw is the whole deck. If you add a Quick Slash, you could draw 4 strikes and Quick Slash, you play it and now you have 4 strikes and the Wraith Form... You would have drawn that anyway had you not added the Quick Slash. You got +2 damage more for your 1 energy and you don't see more cards than you would have seen without it, 0 draw.

There's an imporrant distinction between: Going +1 in card advantage, which usually requires drawing 2. Playing a card to Draw 1 more card, which is neutral when it comes to card advantage. When you count draw 1 card as draw 0 cards, you must then count draw 0 as drawing -1 cards.

It didn't add the opportunity to see new cards any earlier than you would have already. If you're like, "oh I gotta play Echo form as fast as possible to get this deck off the ground, I better add draw" and you put in +1 draw cards, you're only making opportunities to draw echo form later, not earlier.
Finally bought Slay the Spire because of NL and beat ascension 20 on the first 3 characters. It amazes me just how fast NL plays because it takes me so long to go through turns in my own runs.
And the reprogramming too for opposite reasons. He just sees cards that he thinks are bad and skips them without even considering how good they could be. Same with skipping meteor strike in act 3 after he has proven multiple times that he gets up to 8 energy in a turn
Any logic to leaving Biased Cognition on the table when he has 2 Core Surges? It wasn't a pure orb build sure, but it makes sense to improve the orbs you do have no? Given that he only had to increase the size of the deck by one card to do it.
@@billiethekid6407I think saying limited usefulness is underselling +4 focus, even if you don't have too many orb, the passive effects of his frost and lightning orbs are still useful enough where the card will easily give enough value for the +1 card in your deck (it's also a power so it's only drawn once if played). It also allows him to justify picking up more strong orb cards in the future (like the dark orb he picked up)

NL, one card draw is NOT DRAW, bcause you need to put the card in the deck to begin with. Also, 1 claw in a 30 card deck does nothing.
If all your strikes and defense drew 1 card when you played them, you'd see more cards per turn. That's draw.
