+Zachary Watson Each of them is from a different decade. They traveled to the future to make a living doing nothing all day then doing ten minutes of work at night.
This made me want to have hours-long conversations with John Mulaney. He’s such talented conversationalist, he’s unafraid of correcting you when you’re wrong, and he’s more than happy to laugh at himself. Love this guy!
I love how both these men are talking so reverently about their wives and the power in the term "wife." It's just so beautiful and refreshing. These guys are true Men.
I always think it's interesting how you see old interviews with comedians and you see them thinking/talking about the material from the current specials that they were working on, or sometimes even acts that they hadn't put together yet. Like you can see the wheels turning as they're piecing things together. Or they'll throw one of their experimental bits into a late show appearance or something just to see how it plays. Pretty cool stuff.
@@jackmcca87 Well he DOES come across as charmingly humble. But it may just be acting. It really doesn't matter because John Mulaney is so delightful and lovable. He actually introduces happiness to the world.
This is by far the best interview show on the air / internet / cloud. Paul F. Tompkins is one hell of an interviewer, and the creative production team involved in making Speakeasy, puts out one hell of a show. Great jobs all around :) Cheers
All talk shows are basically guests doing bits under the guise of an "interview". I LOVE that PFT does interviews in a way that are authentic. Good show, gentlemen.
This interview gave me a peek into what being on a mildly flirty date at an overpriced bar with John Mulaney could feel like and I just feel so blessed
I do like the fact that he wears suits a lot. He really makes himself look presentable as compared to other comedians that will just show up in tshirts and jeans or hoodies
Mulaney (the show) is actually so bad that I love it. I saw John Mulaney (at Comedy Cellar and doing his new special in Montreal) and he is one of the funniest and most unique comedians out there.
I have loved John Mulaney since his underappreciated sitcom, so wonderful to see how his career has taken off! He seems genuinely wonderful...and proof that a professional "failure" is sometimes just a precursor to much bigger & better things
Paul F. Tompkins is a great interviewer. Doesn’t make it all about him, knows who he’s interviewing but adds his own observations when appropriate. Underrated as a standup comedian though...a bit of an acquired taste....
I demand a full investigation into why I was not made aware that Paul F Tompkins had a show were he interviewed comedians. As a comedy nerd this is tantamount to abuse.
I just realized why speakeasy is so underrated, because I am guilty of it myself. Paul f Thomkins is so damn good at his job it makes the person being interviewed get the credit for the charm and humor and ease of conversation. I know it's a weird realization on Mulaneys interview because Mulaney is so naturally charming but 🤷♀️
People like John Mulaney give me hope for the future. So honest, rational and FUNNY AS ALL GET OUT ! In these insane days of #45 and the current dumpster fire on Capital Hill, it is sweet relief to have a good laugh. 14:41 "that's late in the game to be asking those questions". JM: " it's important". LMAO. Great show/interview. JM's inflection kills me.
I first saw his earlier standups, and I really wanted him to be successful and mainstream. So when I heard that he was going to have his own show, I was really excited. But it wasn't good. So I was worried it would stop him from doing stuff, because you know how failure tends to crush people? I'm glad he's doing beyond okay now. Maybe his path would really be like Conan's. Seeing that he's such a great conversationalist, I'm sure he'd do well in his own tonight show.
Somehow I see him as being alone often when growing up. Swirl that with how intelligent, creative and self-aware he is, and "voila" -- the "weirdness" with that face and vulnerable boyish vibe becomes comedy gold. This fellow Chicagoan is rooting for you, JM. Be well.
Their interraction is awesome. They are hillarious, and like, they speak the same language (obviously), but they speak so the same language and suddenly feel how much other live and other experiences I live, you know
This is SO FUNNY. Wonderful production. Mulaney is amazing and Tomkins was always someone I saw on occasional Comedy Central things, but didn't know about youtube and stuff - he would just be in weird low budget guest appearances and I'd think "it's that guy who did that thing". Now I see he's still awesome and everywhere.
Been a fan of Mulaney's for a while, hilarious fellow. Congrats on the NEW show, premieres Sunday night on FOX! great writer, standup & always entertaining during interviews. SNL, it's your loss! #Mulaney
John Mulaney is actually three young boys in a trenchcoat
Zachary Watson Those three young boys go sit in a diner and read a magazine.
Zachary Watson Excellent comment
+Zachary Watson Omigod, he's the real life Vincent Adultman!

....”he took time out of his day to humiliate a depressed man”.... brilliant!
Brilliant? Just seemed sad to me

Two sterling qualities.
Exactly.
He's one hell of an interviewer. Lots of give and take, perfect flow. John is hilarious too, his standups kill me!
John Mulaney always gives great interviews. He's such a good conversationalist.
I wish I was half as good as him lol
I love how both these men are talking so reverently about their wives and the power in the term "wife." It's just so beautiful and refreshing. These guys are true Men.

Right? A little bit of hope 💗
Until he divorces her for Olivia Munn 😔

"That seemed very natural! So natural that I had to ask you what you were doing!"
My God... So damn quick.

Definitely! Loved hearing the "My Wife, Etc." bit go from what it is here to what it was in The Comeback Kid. That's really cool :)
I love John Mulaney, he's so charming and humble :)
I love him too, but he is certainly NOT humble.
@@jackmcca87 Well he DOES come across as charmingly humble. But it may just be acting. It really doesn't matter because John Mulaney is so delightful and lovable. He actually introduces happiness to the world.
"But you're Paul F. Tompkins!"
"That's right." 😏
He locked on that camera so well and John lost it. Great, Fantastic moment.
Paul F. dresses the way Mulaney sounds
Paul F looks like he should sound like Matt Berry.
Paul's interviews are infinitely more watchable than ANY other celebrity interviews. Doesn't really matter who he's talking to - I'll watch!

No idea why he didn't keep doing it. Hopefully the decision was his and he wasn't replaced. Because he was perfect for the vibe of the show.
The level of skill that these 2 have is incredible. Just how easy they can slip into a bit: 22:23

To hear John talk about his wife as a queen in the most non-toxic and empowering way is incredible. More men like him please.
Watching it in 2021 is kinda sad tho
Yup. Look what he did to her
WATER HAS NEVER LOOKED SO FANCY
John Mulaney is comic genius! He's such a good story teller, an his voice...dreamy. His stories always make me laugh.
Tomah St. Blaise
I never thought about it, but you’re right, he does have a very nice voice.
A Late show for Mr Tompkins please. Is a great interviewer.
Nicolas Handfield Can agree.
Much thirding.
John Mulaney and Paul F. Tompkins having a conversation is exactly as magical as I thought it would be.
ok its official I'm in love with the beautiful genius that is the brain of John Mulaney.
I am so beyond bummed he's married. Sigh, I'm just madly in love with him.
+cheesecake134 What is it about him? The suit? The gap in his teeth? The refined, urbane wit?
Ross Morgan All of the above.
I do like the fact that he wears suits a lot. He really makes himself look presentable as compared to other comedians that will just show up in tshirts and jeans or hoodies
+cheesecake134 lol seriously, i find him so charming
Carter Pewterschmidt you and I both but I am glad he found happiness with someone cause that’s what matters most
the idea of someone going, "have you heard of Justin Beiber?" without beng totally sarcastic is just funny to me
John - "I don't mean to give you a dressing down."
Paul - "I don't mean to take one. How about that?" 😂
"But your Paul F. Tompkins"
"That's right"
Hilarious
Mulaney (the show) is actually so bad that I love it. I saw John Mulaney (at Comedy Cellar and doing his new special in Montreal) and he is one of the funniest and most unique comedians out there.
The show felt like it was making fun of traditional sitcoms while trying to be one and getting mad it had to be one.
The story about watching the matinee and reading a newspaper in a diner... so cute!!

john mulaney bull?
NO !
