The drive portion should have included information on the CVT… I agree with everything said but I bought the NX350… no hybrid… mainly because of all the hybrids with the exception of the new Toyota Crown. Generally, the CVT when extended creates a strained and “tinny” sound. Wanted to hear whether you heard that same sound.
There are belt driven CVT's and there are the planetary gear type that Lexus uses. The former lugs in low end acceleration but the Planetary gear type does not. No tinny sound either. The rev count pegs at a higher RPM and stays there for a bit while the ECVT changes ratios and you just go faster. The Turbo NX350's have their own whine too and require 91 Octane. The hybrids can run on Regular fuel.
Downshift: Great article! This came at a time when I am getting closer to, after 20 years, replacing my old, reliable Prius. I AM doing my research. I have created a spreadsheet to analyze all my candidates. I am now trying to figure out what I REALLY want in a new car. In the end I am coming to the realization that I want to upgrade to a fancier more luxurious vehicle but I don't need a 7 passenger monster to do it. I want SOME utility (like with the Prius) but not needing to frequently transport refrigerators. Just recently I discovered the Lexus NX 350h. And, best of all, it belongs in the Toyota/Lexus family, both well known for their reliability. It may be more expensive, but what with inflation over the last 20 years, it shouldn't be surprising to those witnessing car prices rise over the last two decades. Watching your well crafted video has gone a long way to make me realize that all I want, in the first place, is to have a fancier, more comfortable, and ... familiar (?) Was blown away (in a bad way) at how awful the driving dynamics were in the the NX & RX. Their cars are nice places to be interior wise, but anyone that actually likes driving would be doing themselves a disservice going the Lexus NX/RX route.
