I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly. It's a Lexus. I don't want "sporty" or "driving dynamics". I want a smooth, quiet, refined drive that is a trademark of Lexus.

Your right it shouldn't be compared to a BMW or Mercedes. Those 2 are way more luxurious than this thing. The interior of the NX is no better than KIA or Hyundia. Reliability is its only strong point.

    Good review,
Not alot of reviewers out there know that this brand stands for efficiency and reliability and not for going fast.
Escpecially reliability. Not alot of people know this but german brands after 100.000 miles they will cost you. Toyota and Lexus they will keep going and don't break down.

I've had my NX 350h for 9 days. Getting 42-45 mpg in town and just under 40 mpg on highway.
I didn't realize hybrids could be this good. Cannot tell when it uses the electric motors, cannot tell when the ICE engine starts, truly something you have to experience yourself to believe.
My dealer usually has none available on their lot. 350h's are usually reserved before they arrive. I was lucky to reserve mine a week before it arrived.

The drive portion should have included information on the CVT… I agree with everything said but I bought the NX350… no hybrid… mainly because of all the hybrids with the exception of the new Toyota Crown. Generally, the CVT when extended creates a strained and “tinny” sound. Wanted to hear whether you heard that same sound.

    • @berniekitts1786
      @berniekitts1786 6 місяців тому +1

There are belt driven CVT's and there are the planetary gear type that Lexus uses. The former lugs in low end acceleration but the Planetary gear type does not. No tinny sound either. The rev count pegs at a higher RPM and stays there for a bit while the ECVT changes ratios and you just go faster. The Turbo NX350's have their own whine too and require 91 Octane. The hybrids can run on Regular fuel.

Downshift: Great article! This came at a time when I am getting closer to, after 20 years, replacing my old, reliable Prius.
I AM doing my research. I have created a spreadsheet to analyze all my candidates. I am now trying to figure out what I REALLY want in a new car.
In the end I am coming to the realization that I want to upgrade to a fancier more luxurious vehicle but I don't need a 7 passenger monster to do it. I want SOME utility (like with the Prius) but not needing to frequently transport refrigerators.
Just recently I discovered the Lexus NX 350h. To my surprise it has the luxury I am looking for and the "hybrid-ness" of the Prius. It will also fit in the space that my Prius currently occupies so I don't have to re-arrange my garage. And, best of all, it belongs in the Toyota/Lexus family, both well known for their reliability. It may be more expensive, but what with inflation over the last 20 years, it shouldn't be surprising to those witnessing car prices rise over the last two decades.
Watching your well crafted video has gone a long way to make me realize that all I want, in the first place, is to have a fancier, more comfortable, and ... familiar (?) Prius, which is what the NX 350h appears to be. I am hoping to make the change within a year.
    Thanks!

Hope it's better than the non-h variants as I was recently poised to buy a new either an NX or RX... until I drove both of them. Somehow Lexus managed to make a non-CVT transmission feel like one & somehow they made 275hp feel like less than the 200 &/or 228hp BMW, VW, & Audi direct competitors. Was blown away (in a bad way) at how awful the driving dynamics were in the the NX & RX. Their cars are nice places to be interior wise, but anyone that actually likes driving would be doing themselves a disservice going the Lexus NX/RX route.

I can come up with one or two “best” things and many more “worst” things. Bottom line if you want a cramped, noisy, slowww off the line car that is no fun to drive in exchange for perceived low owner costs, then go for it. I hated my F Sport from the get go and was so relieved to dump it after a year. I overcompensated and got a SQ5 but it is so much more fun to roll with. Keep in mind the Lexus was more expensive to insure than my Audi with a MSRP of an added 40%. The Alfa is a hoot to drive but had a lousy interior and yes, I would feel better owning it and another car for when the Stelvio was in the shop. I might go back to Lexus when I am in my 80’s and only need to drive short distances. The infotainment was good on the NX, I admit, but that was about it. No car is perfect but my loaded Audi with real sport tips and exhaust, sport differential, air suspension and more is pretty comparable to a Macan S (same engine, different tune) and has a better overall ride than Mercedes and BMW.

I own this car. It’s quiet and not quiet ….hear me out: I live off a very bumpy and ridged highway and over time the car has developed small rattles and vibration sounds. I’ve managed to fix two myself, believe it or not, but sometimes I hear a vibrating sound when I am at high speeds(coming from steering column) on certain types of highways and freeways, but only once in a while. So my point is if you’ve got nice roads, even with potholes, an NX 350h will be quiet. I’m thinking of taking my NX into Lexus to have them fix the steering column noise, but as I said it doesn’t always happen.

    1) Run flat tires 👎🏼
    2) Terrible shifter 👎🏼
    3) Small interior 👎🏼
Seriously comparing this to a BMW or Mercedes is a joke. Lexus buyers want quality, reliable and quiet. Honda CRV Hyrbid the best and more accurate comparison. 🤓
    Solid review and duration ✅

I have this car. I got rid of the run flat, shifter is not an issue, and while the interior is a little tight, it suits me and my small family well. Get an RX, if you need the space? It s a great car. My wife has a Venza and we love our Toyotas!

You shouldn't do car reviews, sorry. BTW, BMW hybrid plug-ins are not charged by the engine like by Toyota or Lexus. That's a big miss on fuel efficiency for BMW given their price.
