Really great job man. The bridge is my favorite part of the song, beautiful chords by Jimmy Jam. The 4th chord you play in the bridge sounds like maybe a different inversion of the chord, but it works. A very nice pick-apart video, kudos!
THANKS!! You have a good ear, Sir! :) I think I may have totally played the wrong chord there. In hindsight, those half-step walk -downs should make the chord in question an E maj 7/C# (or something close). Is that the one you're talking about?
Ah, of course! Those are: "Make it last Forever" (Keith Sweat/Teddy Riley), "Let's Wait a While" (Jam/Lewis/Jackson), "Can You Stand The Rain" (New Edition/Jam/Lewis), and "Piano in The Dark" (Brenda Russel/Hull/Cutler) - LOVE those! :)
Thanks so much! 😃 Though it falls under 80s R&B, there are lots of Jazz elements in this one. Jazz can be a bit intimidating as a beginner though. Listen to some Anita Baker or Luther Vandross and you'll be hooked. 😁
@@chenscott6465 Luther's music is amazing! If you'd like to ease into some similar music, also try Sade. Her songs have very tasteful parts that just sort of repeat. How long have you been playing? I'm no expert, but UA-cam has a ton of resources when it comes to learning new songs. Beware of imposters, though. In many cases, it's taken me a lifetime to discover how to play, correctly, what I was always playing wrong. ☺
@@sugarminott1 yup, you got it! You'll definitely know the mystery one, too. Hint: AMAZING chorus harmonies from these Boston boys which Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced. 😎
Thanks so much! Funny enough, that's just factory combi B032 (Tiney Harmonic) as-is, right out of the Korg Triton le. Pretty much just a few FM electric pianos layered with a pinch of bells. It might be more than what's needed, but it sounded pretty rich as a demonstration sound. :)
Nice I needed that to do my show medley are those glasses keys sounds like the original
THANK you! :) I'm not sure what you meant by "glasses", but I used a Korg Triton le factory sound (B032 - Tiney Harmonic) with no enhancements.
_'you're something special, and you know you're something special too...ooh oooh... I know Alex ..'_
Great fucking job man. Just great.

what key is this song in
The bulk of the song is in Dm (except the bridge).
@@moanakeikii thanks very much Peter ! :)
What kind of voice style is this?
I'm not sure what you mean. Chord voicing? As in which inversion?
@@moanakeikii the sound of the keyboard it has some effect that made it sounds like in the 80s
@@D.Mob79 it's a very "80's" sound. Is that what you mean? It was recorded in 1987. 😁
Shit I got my years wrong. I meant to write keyboards for Alex & Cherrelle 1986-1989 during the early years.
WOW!!! That's super-cool!!! That was some great R&B back then!!! :) :)
