  • Today is Thursday, September 16, 2021. I'm picking up a new 2022 Honda ADV150 scooter for Kevin ( @Excelsior / @excelsiorddz , or @Bikes.and.Pizza on Instagram)! He asked me to ride it and give my thoughts on it versus the Honda PCX150. This video is long, so skip around with the chapter markers below.

    Kevin found a great deal on a nearly-new 2022 Honda ADV150 at a dealer in Galveston, TX, so he asked if I would pick it up for him. Hmm... let's think about that for a second... OF COURSE! 🤣
    I rode it around the Katy area and put it through the paces on some of the roughest roads I could find to test the suspension. Then, I ran my 2015 Honda PCX150 through the same gauntlet for a back-to-back comparison. The ADV150 wins the suspension test hands down.... no competition at all!
    The ADV150 handles very well and feels more sure-footed than the PCX150 due to the ADV's wider tires: chunky 110/80-14 front and 130/70-13 rear tires on the ADV150 vs. the skinny 90/90-14 and 100/90-14 tires on the PCX150. Straight-line stabillity and cornering feel is considerably more confidence-inspring on the ADV150.
    The ADV150's braking feel is also drastically better than the PCX150.
    I couldn't test the ADV150's braking performance to measure stopping distances, but the feel at the lever and brake pad bite is immediately noticeable. It's a night and day difference compared to the PCX150. The seating position is mostly the same between the two scoots, but the ADV150 is slightly more roomy due to the longer seat and the higher handlebar position. The ADV150 will suit taller riders more comfortably than the PCX150's ergo's would.
    My only complaint regarding the ADV150 was the instrument cluster... that was a big letdown. The contrast is so-so in direct sunlight, and the display is too busy. There are too many lines and widgets for at-a-glance clarity, and the small fonts require a jeweler's monocular to read! Honda could have done a better job with that display. The Rebel 1100's superb display as a prime example.
    Overall, I'll give the ADV150 two big thumbs UP! It's a very comfortable machine for blasting around town or on back roads. The seating position is comfortable, and the suspension soaks up big bumps without bruising your kidneys. I would add a top box and a larger windscreen to round out the features to make a great mini-tourer. Cheers! 😉👍

    I'm happy to report that after upgrading the variator and changing the weights to 3g (stock 18g) that the pull is fantastic and it will cruise all day to 60 without much effort. And will actually will hit 72 (with my weight) given enough patience and room. When you outpace 99% of the cars from a stop light on a scooter, I think that its a good combination.
    MPG - I'll get 70 -80 mpg when horsing on it the whole time and 80-100 mpg when just taking it easy.
    Its at about 1700 miles now and loving every moment of it. Just waiting for a few USA sources for accessories and slowly add those.
    Overall, I'm VERY happy with my choice and the sheer luck of finding a used one with 12 miles on it!
    Many, many thanks to @Quasimotard for picking this up for me.

    Excellent comparison of the two little ones. I chose to go with the 125 cc Super Cub mainly out of nostalgia, as the 50cc was my very first one at 14 and I got way too much for my money. It was the third “scooter “ I had, whatever I asked it for it did, and more. I got my CT 90 next, and I just rode the bike into the ground. Then both of my kids rode them to college. Then I sold it many years years later, now I’m just past my 73rd birthday and a slew of bikes over the years . I gave my 1995 Trumpet 1200/4 Trophy to the best friend, and genius mechanic,
    I Think have ever known. I think it’s a good idea for if it, he’s just got the stuff that that it would take to get a the first Trophy 1200/4 into a proper showplace! That was my favourite thing I ever had, and it has a great History to me and my pal Gregory Anderson!
    Thanks again Buddy!

    Just bought the adv 150 and I love how it absorbs bumps better due to its longer suspension travel compared to my Yamaha Aerox 155. Did plenty of upgrades to my Aerox especially on front and rear suspension which improved the suspension a lot better compared to stock but the suspension on the adv 150 both front and rear are far better. Adv 150 suits my riding style as I go offroad sometimes. Great comparison video. Kudos 👏🏻

    Having both, the most obviously differences for me are the riding position and suspension. The adv feels taller and more upright. It also does much better on the washboard ripples on the road. The suspension is still scooter harsh, but much better than the pcx.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому +23

      Agreed! The ADV150's suspension is the biggest improvement by far. The wider tires and higher handlebar position make it feel much more planted on the road. The larger front brake rotor also improves the brake feel compared to my older PCX150.
      Kevin replied somewhere in the comments earlier, and he mentioned that he upgraded the variator and rollers. Now his ADV150 will run 72 MPH top speed and it gets 80-100 MPG under normal riding conditions. I'm still editing the weekend ride video up to Austin, so stay tuned for that episode! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    I've tried a test ride on the ADV150 last week actually and those OEM tyres are really good for as far as OEM tyres go. This bike is a really good city runabout,and maybe occasionally go for an offroad detour. The suspension and tyres will handle about the same offroad as an OEM CT125 will i think,but just be careful of that ground clearance
    Also,i just tried the Honda Forza 750 yesterday(had an off day and went to my usual dealership near where i live and hung around to look at the bikes then the sales guy asked if i wanted to try "the most powerful scooter in store"). That scooter is nuts...

I live down the way in San Antonio, and am considering one of these for trips to HEB and just cruising around town, maybe to work occasionally, you know just for the daily stuff... seems like it would be fun.. You also have a great scooter shop on Austin Highway if you feel like comparing Honda to Taiwan brands and other stuff like Piaggio/Vespa and Royal Enfield. I miss that place, as all we have for scooters in my current town is a Honda dealer, so you're paying pretty much top dollar, and they're significantly backordered. That said, you can't go wrong with either of these Hondas or really any small-medium Honda. These two especially are just throw a leg over and go.

    Great real world video comparisons. I have a 2011 Ruckus and a very rare 2010 Elite 110 both stock. The Elite does 55 MPH so perfect for urban streets. Debating on adding the ADV150 to the stable but dealers in my state are literally getting one at a time, selling at a mark up and they are sold as soon as they come in. Wish Honda offered at least two color choices instead of one. A charcoal metallic grey would be nice along with the the Rose Red for 22. The ADV350 sold in other markets would be about $6-$7k here so that’s probably why Honda isn’t bringing it here yet. That’s serious coin for a scooter. You can also get a CBR300R non ABS for about $4,700 or same price as the ADV150 and it will do 90MPH but it’s a 6 speed motorcycle. Decisions, decisions

    I can see how your friend caught the bug after taking your pcx 150 for a ride,.. I was in Thailand in 2017 and rented a 2016 pcx 150 for two months up in Chiang Mai, I too caught the bug and bought one when I got back to the states ( Boston ) . I’m back in Thailand now ( Phuket) and have rented a 2019 pcx 150 HYBRID ,… I’ve never seen one back in America but it’s pretty neat , it has a small toggle switch in the front of the left handgrip housing that allows you too place it in three modes that will appear on your odometer screen ( “D” for drive , “S” for special , and the last mode brings up a blank space on the odometer screen and it’s basically drive but the engine won’t shut down when your stopped at a red light ( in Thailand the red lights are several minutes long and the pcx150’s have the option of continuing to run, or shutting down and they restart with a twist of the throttle ( at 100 mpg is this really necessary) . So “ D “ and “blank” are self explanatory but the “S” mode is where the “hybrid” applies, there is a 48 volt electric motor and Lithium-ion battery under the seat that gives it a boost when you get on it,.. and comparing it to my pcx150 at home ,.. you can definitely see a difference . There’s also a pretty cool power thrust bar on the odometer screen that spools up as your nailing it. ….. thanks for the video on the adv,…. You keep your bikes super clean !

      Yeah, these scooters are definitely addictive to ride! They are easy to get along with, and the twist-and-go lifestyle lets you focus more on the ride than the machine. It's unfortunate that we don't get a lot of the small-displacement motorcycles and scooters that other European and Asian markets have. If we did, then my fleet would probably be 3x bigger! • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому

      When I upgraded to the Dr.Pulley variator in the 2015 PCX150, I also installed a fresh CVT belt while I was in there. That PCX is still running the OEM clutch and spring in the back. The scoot only had ~2500 miles on it, so the belt was still fresh; however, I figured that a new belt would be prudent considering that we would be doing ~2K miles at highway speeds over the following few days. 😉👍 --QM

    Great review I'm in Thailand about to pull the trigger on a new scooter. The Yamaha N-Max and Aerox are OUT. I'm almost certain I'll get one of the following Honda's; PCX160, ADV160, or possibly even the Forza350. However, right now I'm leaning towards the PCX160.

      @@Jorge-jk5xr I had to try a few scooters out over these last months. I'm currently riding a Yamaha Qbix 125, it's a great bike with big cargo space under the seat. Maybe the N-Max is okay but the ADV-160 is extremely popular especially since it has better suspension. I don't ride on the highway very often and when I do it's only for a few KM's. So for me I'm riding small streets and shortcuts through alleyways the Qbix 125 is perfect for this reason. Small 125 CC scooters are better than big scooters as their easy to park, maneuver through small spaces, etc. Of course if you're bigger than 200lb. I would recommend a 150/160CC. My next door neighbor has a Forza 350 but he's really a big guy around 230lb. Finally, after months of riding I realize how dangerous riding in Thailand truly is..I've decided to never go over 40KM per hour ever again..much better chance for survival. GL!

      Howdy, Paul! Thanks for watching and leaving feedback! Yes, the maintenance on the ADV150 will be equally painful (if not moreso) than it is on the PCX150. I wish that Honda could have designed a maintenance panel in the trunk tray or center body panels to make that job easier. Sometimes I wonder if it's not easier to drop the entire powertrain than to strip all of the Tupperware from these bikes! 🤣
      The Super Cub's valve maintenance is easier, but clearance is still limited. You can watch that process here if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/GSxi4kdy2SY/v-deo.html . Revoving the Cub's leg shield is a giant PITA as well ( ua-cam.com/video/k1ri2ZEX9JI/v-deo.html ), but you won't need to go that far for routine maintenance. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Either machine would be a superb commuter or delivery steed, but it really depends on whether you want to shift or just twist-and-go. The ADV150 is probably more practical overall than the Super Cub because it has built-in storage under the seat, it has a much larger fuel tank (2.1 gal on the ADV vs 1.0 gal for the SC), and it's much faster to accelerate away from city traffic. The SC is more efficient overall if you don't mind shifting gears... no clutch needed. Your best bet is to test ride both of them and see which fits your needs better. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    What brand are your jacket and gloves, are they comfortable in the summer?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Рік тому

      Howdy, Clive! I wear mostly textile-mesh riding gear throughout the year here in Houston, TX. Here is the short list for reference:
      Jacket: Fly Racing Flux Air Mesh amzn.to/3uNfz3t
      Gloves: Olympia 734 Digital Protector mesh gloves amzn.to/3HtjY0y
      Boots: TCX Explorer EVO GoreTex amzn.to/3O1RWuE
      Socks: Darn Tough Micro Crew Ultra-light amzn.to/3P7l2tZ
      The jacket and gloves flow a lot of air while moving, but they can get stuffy while stopped in traffic. The unseen benefit of wearing a jacket, even during blazing-hot Houston summers, is that the jacket prevents sunburn and windburn that dries out the skin. A little bit of added sweat also provides a cooling effect while moving, so it's a worthwhile trade-off.
      The Fly Racing jacket has been one of my best gear purchases in decades! That was a $99 close-out special at CycleGear nearly 8 years ago, and it's still kicking! The Olympia gloves usually last me 2-3 years of constant use (abuse), and they're hand washed every few weeks during the hot months to prevent the inevitable "stinky shoe" syndrome. All of my helmets are modular (flip-up), so that helps me to ventilate while stopped in traffic... just flip-up to breathe and cool off while stationary.
      The Darn Tough Merino wool socks help to keep my feet dry and minimize odor. They are guaranteed for life, and I've exercised that warranty a few times. They will typically wear out at the heel or toe after a year or two. I just email them with the problem and they send me a fresh pair of socks! I need to pay for shipping back to Vermont, but that's a minimal expense: darntough.com/pages/our-unconditional-lifetime-guarantee
      Good luck shopping, and I hope you find a good fit! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Great video! Sure wish they hadn't made the seat so high on the ADV150. What shocks would you recommend for the PCX for a 150 lb rider. They can't make the seat any higher because I have a 27 inch inseam and can barely touch the ground with the stock shocks. Your input would be appreciated.

      Thanks for the feedback, Dana! You can replace the PCX's rear shocks with anything that fits your budget. Most of the aftermarket shocks won't raise or lower your seat height, so you might consider "shaving" the seat down to reduce your seat-to-ground height.
      There are quite a few options in the aftermarket, but I would suggest purchasing an adjustable shock... one with spring preload and damping adjustments... if your budget allows it. You're probably looking at $175-350 for a decent set of adjustable shocks.
      Here are a few places to shop:
      Webike (Japan): japan.webike.net/HONDA/PCX160/14419/mtop/
      Steady Garage (USA): www.steadygarage.com/store/two-wheels/scooter-parts/honda-pcx
      Bikerz Bits (Thailand): bikerzbits.com/honda/pcx/
      Good luck shopping, and I hope you find a good fit on your PCX! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    you should try Honda beat ISS 2022 only 110cc scooter, very popular in Indonesia. The design looks like honda vario junior.

      Unfortunately, we don't have many of those great small-displacement scooters and motorcycles here in the USA. I wish that we could have the Zoomer-X here instead of the Navi, but I'm happy for any new alternatives that we receive! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Nice review! Did you try to fit a full size helmet in the storage of the ADV?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback! I tried to squeeze my oversized Schuberth C3 Pro in there, but it didn't fit. I forgot to add that footage to the video. I think that my newer SHOEI NeoTec II would fit under there without any problems because the NeoTec's shell size is a bit more compact than the C3.
      That C3 helmet shell is quite large, and I also have my GoPro camera mount and the Cardo PackTalk mounts hanging off of the front & side. Those add-ons make it nearly impossible to shove the helmet into anything except my SHAD SH39 top case. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Good Video. I have both a 2022 pcx and a 2023 adv 150 locally. Similarly price. I was thinking adv 350. Not sure what I'm doing for my first scooter/ or motorcycle

      Thanks for the feedback! I'll probably add the new ADV160 to my stable later this year. I'm still hoping that Honda brings the ADV350 to the USA, but it's not likely going to happen. 😉👍 --QM
