Be aware that the AirTrain metrocards cannot be loaded with the $33 7-day unlimited rides, if you intend to get that after leaving JFK. I took the Q10 bus to get into JFK after connecting from the subway at Kew Gardens. Just follow the people lining up for the free connecting bus. This is a good option if you have plenty of time to spare for your flight. There was significant traffic at the end stretch of my bus trip.

I was just telling a friend about how to get to JFK from your previous video :) Also, if my analysis is correct there is no need to get a bus at all at Leffters Blvd Station. According to Google Maps, walking from that station to Howard Beach JFK Subway station is about 11 minutes. So you don't have to wait for the bus if you don't want to. (Love the new Theas :D)

Does anyone know whether the Howard Beach Station can be accessed from the Long Term Parking Lot at JFK? If that's the case you just have to get off the airtrain at Leffters Blvd. St. and walk through the parking lot.
I suspect it isn’t possible to get from the parking lot east of Howard beach to the Howard beach station without paying the airtrain fare, they’ve probably blocked it off, but I haven’t been there so idk.
There’s also the wackiest option: get off at lefferts, and then walk 20 min to the Aqueduct conduit subway station. I’m sure luggage that will be a lot of fun 😎
Me personally, I don’t have the best experiences with the places this video can tell you to go when you take the bus (I almost got assaulted at Lefferts lol) so my advice, tread lightly, be wary, some of these parts can be quite dangerous.

I just came back from NYC for a quick weekend getaway! No luggage, I took Q10 leaving the airport and B15 back to JFK. Just used my Visa Pay Wave for everything. Never touched any MetroCard. One thing about the A Train: Either you take it at Howard Beach or Lefferts Blvd after taking Q10, service is infrequent (in big city standard, and because service already split up) so be sure to check arrival times on your phone and not to miss the train!
Cool also you should’ve addressed those metro card scammers that be at Sutphin Blvd jfk staton. I’ve seen a few videos where those scammers would ask ppl specifically the tourists leaving the city heading towards air train for their metro card and would claim they won’t need it to get on the air train even though they do in which they get scammed.
Behind the Kew Garden Station is the LIRR to Penn Station (Manhattan )$10 at the machine. On the train is double the price. The ride is 18 minutes and is safe during the day, but I would never go there once it’s dark.
Please know that the man at the newspaper kiosk (02:52) took a huge tip for himself (unilaterally) when he sold us the card. He gave us back less money than was due. Next time, we will probably use the machines.
Great video. Lefferts Air train station looks so close to the terminus at the A train. Could you simply walk the short distance to the subway station, thus avoiding the $8 charge? It looks to be less than a half mile away.
I'm not sure. It looks like it's just a parking lot that you have to walk though, but I'm not sure if there are any rules around it. Maybe not? Always worth trying. The worst that could happen is you get back on the AirTrain to get to the A train and pay $8 (or take a bus). 😅
Can confirm you can’t, tried it once. There’s no way to get around the turnstiles unless you have someone let you in the subway station via the emergency gate in the parking lot.

Hi there. I think the only places to get a MetroCard are at Jamaica and Howard Beach. If you really want a MetroCard, you might have to ride the airtrain all the way to Howard Beach, get a MetroCard, then ride the airtrain back to Lefferts Blvd.

Hello there. There aren't any ferries from JFK to Manhattan. The cheapest option (if you don't mind spending time) is the bus to the subway. I'll see if I can make an updated video on the ferries. The New York ferry mostly goes up and down the East River and to the beaches during the summer.

Hello! 👋 If you are by yourself, the 10-trip airtrain pass doesn't make sense (making it better to just get one unlimited and add enough money to pay for the airtrain). But if you are with someone else then yes, getting the 10-trip to share and an unlimited metrocard would be better (but you can't share the unlimited metrocard for the subway, you each would need your own). And you can avoid the $1 fee if you buy the 10-trip airtrain from the newspaper kiosk. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't. Hope you have a great trip!

Hi there. There should be one right before you get to the buses. But if you have a credit/debit card with tap-and-pay, you can use that on the reader as you board the bus.

@@henkd6159 You're right. An older article online is saying there are no machines at Lefferts, but newspaper stands in the airport sell MetroCards (I'm just not sure if there are a lot of them). This maybe a bit of a hassle, but you can always go to Howard Beach (one more stop on the AirTrain) to get a MetroCard, then go back on the AirTrain to Lefferts Blvd. The easier option is to use the OMNY. I think the 10-trip is only at the newspaper kiosk. I haven't been to JFK in a while and not sure if they are still selling the 10-trip. They've changed pricing on the AirTrain twice since this video.

Hi there. $25 pays for 10 trips on the AirTrain and not the subway. This is a special MetroCard that is non-refillable. To pay for the subway, you need to get a "regular" MetroCard (this will require another transaction). Hope this helps!

That is a really good question.🤔 Technically Roosevelt Island is part of Manhattan. But I honestly don't know. If it's not part of the flat rate, you can always try to negotiate for the flat rate by saying it's so close to Manhattan. But I would ask before getting in line for the taxi so you don't waste time.

AIR TRAIN sucks. If you want to see proper transit, go to Asia or Europe and get into the terminal from the city in ONE RIDE. Free transfers between buses and subway is with the use of a MetroCard or OMNI fare payment

There are machines at both ends of the AirTrain, so you will be able to buy your 10-trip card before you exit. Have a good trip!

@@henkd6159 You're right. An older article online is saying there are no machines at Lefferts, but newspaper stands in the airport sell MetroCards (I'm just not sure if there are a lot of them). This maybe a bit of a hassle, but you can always go to Howard Beach (one more stop on the AirTrain) to get a MetroCard, then go back on the AirTrain to Lefferts Blvd.

I think the 10-trip is only at the newspaper kiosk. I haven't been to JFK in a while and not sure if they are still selling the 10-trip. They've changed pricing on the AirTrain twice since this video.
Very helpful video. My wife and I can definitely make use of a 10-trip airtrain Metro card this month on a visit to NY to save money.
Question to anyone that can answer: If I buy a single 10-trip Metro for my wife and me to share and get from JFK to Mid-town Manhattan, do I need to add more $$ to the card to cover subsequent subway fares while we're in NYC? Ie, does the initial $25 cost for the card cover fares towards airtrain rides? I'm wondering how the Metrocard keeps tabs on how many airtrain trips have been taken vs. the monetary value on the card that can be used for other transit modes? Hope that makes sense...Thanks in advance.
Hi there. $25 pays for 10 trips on the AirTrain and not the subway. This is a special MetroCard that is non-refillable. To pay for the subway, you need to get a "regular" MetroCard (this will require another transaction). Hope this helps!

That is a really good question.🤔 Technically Roosevelt Island is part of Manhattan. But I honestly don't know. If it's not part of the flat rate, you can always try to negotiate for the flat rate by saying it's so close to Manhattan. But I would ask before getting in line for the taxi so you don't waste time.

If you use your credit card to pay for the bus at JFK how does the system know you have already paid at the subway?
The system will remember your credit card, so make sure to use the same credit card.

Thea - If you got the air train to Lefferts Blvd Station is it then a short enough (and convenient enough) walk to Howards Beach subway station to avoid the $8 air tain fee and also to avoid the need for a bus trip ?

Hi! The machines are available right before you exit so they will be at Jamaica Station (and Howard Beach).

AIR TRAIN sucks. If you want to see proper transit, go to Asia or Europe and get into the terminal from the city in ONE RIDE. Because the EINSTEINS at NYC airport council decided to go cheap, we now have a second rate system that requires you to haul ass and your bags down stairs and around and about.. Absolute second rate bush league, a total embarrassment. America, vote in people who will spend on good transit or suffer this SHAME.
