  • Cheating is prevalent in classrooms today, but there are steps that parents and teachers can take to make it less likely, according to Eric Anderman, an expert on student cheating and professor of educational psychology at The Ohio State University. The issue has become more urgent with the advent of ChatGPT, which some students use to write papers and find answers for their homework.
However, ChatGPT can also be a powerful learning tool. Anderman and other researchers have found that students are less likely to cheat when the focus is on mastering content rather than just achieving grades and test scores. While ChatGPT has increased opportunities for cheating, Anderman said it shouldn’t be seen solely as a tool for illicit purposes. If used responsibly, and with proper guidance from parents and teachers, ChatGPT can enhance student learning and support educational goals.
