I honestly do like these videos. The New Order one was awesome. Maybe next you could do one for the SDF from CoD Infinite Warfare? Keep the Secessionist movement based on mars, but make it bigger than just Mars seperating from Earth. Other colonies on other planets, maybe the Moons, stuff like that.
That senator saying that the Galactic Concordance was a temporarily armistice is echoing Marshal Ferdinand Foch’s statement after the Treaty of Versailles. Very nice touch.

Okay, hear me out here: Old republic = art-deco aesthetic Empire = space brutalism with smooth surfaces as a big, dystopian superscale New republic = 1970s-80s sleek futurism. Clean lines, smooth surfaces and sleek inlays.
So _The First Order Reimagined_ got the Indefatigable class Star Dreadnaught and _The New Republic Reimagined_ got the MC/CR-108 Endor Class. Who else upon seeing these two Stellar Titians of men & durosteel wants to see them duke it out?
I love the idea of naming nr ships from rebel battles or important planets. Jakku class, Hoth class, Yavin class, Jeddha class etc. Its like what modern navies do, especially the usn
The mere concept that one might see combat droids, or former imperial officers, or mandalorians fighting alongside the rebels against an actually dangerous and well organized First Order gives me chills.
“FOR THE REPUBLIC!” I honestly didn’t expect that line to hit so hard in the video. The galaxy probably hasn’t heard that cry since the end of the Clone Wars.
I especially liked the Endor Class ship. It functions as a warship, but its larger purpose is to come to the rescue of devastated planets and single handedly take on the burden of their infrastructure. Its a great way to help out, build big space weapons without alarming the public, and increase public support for the armed forces. Very clever
In Legends the Mon Calamari cruisers had a similar role, as they were originally transport and luxury ships retrofitted into military/support service. You just can't top the engineers from Dac, apparently
The naming also reminded me of the Midway Class Carrier, mainly from naming it after a major battle that arguably turned the tide of the Pacific Theater, though not to the same extent as the battle of Endor.
The fact this is a historical reference on USS Lexington powering Tacoma on 1929 is a nice easter egg about the use of military tech as emergency infrastructure
In a lot of ways, they seem to make the New Republic Navy more akin to Starfleet from Star Trek, being more than just a traditional navy, but a humanitarian relief and emergency response unit
@@fightingfalcon777 same thing with the JSDF ( Japan Self Defense Force) it serves primarily as a humanitarian relief force during times of crisis in order to increase public opinion
The image of the reimagined Resistance rallying disparate planetary defenders and shocked New Republic forces together under the battle cry "For the Republic!" gives me chills. So much potential for potent story telling there.
Except it's not the Resistance doing the rallying, it's the volunteer group of AT walkers led by the former Imperial general, which makes the image all the more impactful.
@@stephenkenney8290 My headcanon is that guy must have fought in the Clone Wars or something. And he feels pride in finally fighting for the Republic again.
@@gavinsmith9871 He ends up fighting another volunteer group that defected to the First Order and makes it his mission to bring their leaders in for trial under the new Republic Court system
This is the story that should have been told, genuinely, "For the Republic". The Republic to me represents the world we could be, a foundation of hope, of peace, that while complex and full of internal issues, will not bow to evil.
@@Infernal460 the Galactic Alliance is in this reimagining. Here, it's a supranational union created to extend the New Republic's influence and allow for some degree of Galactic unity without everyone having to fully join the Republic.
I love the Volunteer Forces, especially the Droid Legion. The idea of a group of Seperatists from the Clone Wars retrieving and reparing a bunch of Droids and vehicles and putting them into service as a Volunteer Force and jumping the First Order with clone-wars-era machines is fantastic to me. Just...imagine; B2s and Dwarf Spider Droids in shootouts with squads of stormtroopers, AATs dueling AT-STs, Octera Droids walking circles around AT-M6s and blasting them with missiles and cannons, Vulture Droids and Tri Fighters dueling Tie Fighters overhead. Commando Droids hunting First Order operators with Sniper rifles, E-5s, and vibroblades while Hailfires bombard enemy armor and Magnaguards square up with Sith Eternal Force Sensitives... I love it. I want it so bad. These men and women lived through the Clone Wars, the Empire, and they say: "Never Again." FOR THE CONFEDERACY! FOR THE REPUBLIC! TO THE LAST!!!

Well as Darth Marr once pointed out... There is no death there is only the Force... And it has a plan... So don't believe the peace will last. If it would it would only end in eternal stagnation. War will happen to remove the old to let new grow again. Peace is a lie... And we did find and killed our beloved emperor in the end before he did too much damage...
Just had an idea, what if some of the few surviving clones settled down somewhere, and founded their own nation, using their military training and Mandalorian roots as the basis for a whole new culture, taking in orphans and misfits the same way the Mando's do. I think that would be awesome.
@@cheshire4856 It’d be a disconnected community most likely instead of a Nation, but it could work. Just have to pick a Clone Battalion or several, and say that to cope with their accelerated aging and fast approaching deaths, decided to take care of orphans to leave a lasting and honorable legacy.
@@jamesbaxter5147 That could be a good basis for one of the volunteer groups from the video. Imagine descendents of 501st clone deserters donning update versions of the armor of their forefathers proudly facing against New Sith forces. To put a cherry on top they are fighting side by side with former Separatist clankers. That's my fanfiction.
Just like _The First Order Reimagined_ , _The New Republic Reimagined_ is an astounding piece of craftmanship that retains much of the facets on the Sequel movies while also reintegrating the greater Legends/EU continuity. Most impressive indeed. As for what side between this First Order & New Republic would win, I'm inconclusive as the way both redesigns makes them similarly match. An major external power like the Hutts, Chiss, or an extra-galactic power like the Grysk or Vong could change the tide.
Grysk/Vong showing up would be just the thing to turn the entire story on its head. Add in a Mandalorian State that is at least, sizable, and an ally of the New Republic, and add in the Chiss, you would have a truly EPIC STORY!
My money is on the new republic, simply due to morale. The first order has gotten a very successful alpha strike and has gained lots of ground, but the germans got the same at the onset of operation Barbarossa and we all know how that turned out. Corelia, Mon Cala and Kuat are, to my knowledge, still under new republic control or at least sumpatherics. This means that the primary shipyards from which the New Republic's fleet would be built are in play. The First order has certainly improved on many doctrinal elements of the Empire, but still suffers from having inferior fighters accross the board. With the NR maintaining the rebellions institutionalized fighter corps I suspect this deficiency to get worse and worse with time. Moreover, the systems that have seceded to try and make a separate peace cannot be depended upon by the FO. If the FO just leaves them be it sacrifices access to their resources just to deny the NR the same. But the NR has control over the wealthiest and most populous parts of the galaxy, so the FO will never win a war of attrition without exploiting every teritory it can. This will breed resentment in it's new subjects and result in partisan activity behind the lines. This is something that many supporters of the NR have extensive experience in, so the longer the war goes on the harder things will get for the FO. Even worse, the destruction of Starkiller base and the crippling of the Supremacy and its supporting fleet represent a major blow to the prestige and power of the FO. The propaganda value of Luke's stand is even worse for them. In order to win, the FO needs to crush the republic within a year or so, before large numbers of new warships can start coming off the lines and take away the FO's present advantage. And even if the FO succeeds in getting a quick victory, which I find unlikely, it would just be in a weaker position than the empire before its collpase; weaker and with a less solid hold on the galaxy on top of large numbers of experienced rebels and freedom fighters continuing to organize against them. The FO can only win in the short run, but however well things go at first the FO will never be able to hold on for long.
Continue the Reimagined series in High Command to show us the Galactic war between The First Order/Sith Eternal and the New Republic. Break it into parts if you have to!
Everyone’s talking about that patriotic-goosebumps-inducing ending, or the Endor-class Super Star -Destroyer- Defender, but me, my heart melted when I heard about the annual “Cultural Capital” celebrations. Such a “continuous celebration across the Galaxy” is a beautiful illustration of the Rebellion’s/New Republic’s ideals of “unity in diversity”, and it breaks my heart to not be able to see such a spectacle in current star wars media. 😭
I agree, it's something I didn't I know I want, but now I want it badly. It's the perfect idea for the Star Wars universe for so many different reasons. Pure brilliance at work.
@@herbertschulz4313 Considering all the other EU/NATO references, i know i shouldn't be surprised, but now i'm so glad to have learned this real-life fact! 🤩 Thanks for enlightening me; time to go researching!
"A compromise plan with elements of all proposals, pleasing none. Perhaps the Republic isn’t dead after all." - Commander Marius Vahle, New Republic Eighth Mobile Fleet
They don’t have to worry about stock holders and the various other balls and chains that hold large companies in place. More importantly, they aren’t Disney. Can’t really think of anything new and inventive Disney’s done in ages
Not difficult when the sum total of the New Republic's presence in the films and television series has been what, five minutes of screen time and mostly only referenced to by non-Republic characters? It might as well not exist.
with any luck the entertainment industry will start taking note of the talent of the internet, especially now that some content creators are overtaking the establishment sources in terms of viewers
This actually put tears to my eyes by the end. I’m aspiring to be a writer with world building and just, holy fuck. This really continued the themes of the Alliance, of the original Trilogy. It feels tangible, real, I can *see* it and genuinely believe in it. God, if only this was what we had gotten.
Since around the time The Clone Wars series hit its peak, canon was effectively in the hands of any patrons that could keep up the original messages and the ever lasting hope, unity and redemption focused space opera design of old Star Wars mixing EU and the movies (which are now blurred as is). That’s how I see it.
The New Republic Ranger Corps is what the Resistance in the new trilogy movies should've been; instead of a pseudo-wannabe rebellion, the Rangers would be the force used by the New Republic to monitor and/or engage the rising First Order; logically and narratively the Ranger Corps makes much more sense than some random unsanctioned paramilitary group like the Resistance Edit: that being said, Templin's new version of the resistance is more believable and interesting than the movies
It’s effectively a nod to the Arizona and Desert Rangers from Wasteland but the dynamic is good for a balanced fight between a post-war elite outlander special forces and a neofascist OP stratocracy a la a *truly* fanatical and endless Brotherhood of Steel. Just combine both factions with small parts of the Imperium of Man and the story becomes a clash of titans fans like myself would love to see and don’t get any of elsewhere.
Agreed, the Resistance should have been Ranger cause it made more sense. If anything, the new star wars trilogy should have been the start of a new saga, with ep 1 focusing on the Rangers of the New Republic.
Nah JJ Abrams wanted a rag-tag underground resistance movement of plucky fighters because that's how it was in the OT and the good guys can never be the professional establishment.
@@vit968 this is literally why I, like many people, still like Old Republic stuff and the Dark Empire comics or whichever series formed the basis of the sequels
Damn, that last line actually hit hard. That continuity from the sacrifice of the clones for the Republic to the Rebellion to the New Republic gives it all some meaning and doesn't make all the sacrifice seem meaningless. I think ultimately that is the best fix of the New Republic.
Nah, they have droids this time! And because they’re the “good guys” they might even be allowed to be as badass as they should be! Oh yeah, also the whole “a real army with something to fight for, and the skill and diversity to do it.
@@The_Murder_Party Finally, both sides are using their brains and mixing both Droids and Organic Soldiers. I just wish we could have a Total War game or something similar with such a scenario, it’d be awesome controlling both kinds of units to give yourself the best advantage.
BRUUUUUHHH! At the end there not only was I getting chills, I think I was starting to tear up wheen I realised that the rallying cry was "For The Republic"! THIS IS WHAT THE SEQUEL TRILOGY SHOULD HAVE BEEN!
I liked the idea of characters from canon and legends being leaders in the New Republic. I can imagine Hera Syndulla flying her own transports advertising her own campaign and supporting new pilots in the New Republic starfighter corp.
@@dalekrenegade2596 Now I’m imagining Chopper patrolling the Senate halls, zapping every Senator that badmouths Hera behind her back, cackling all the way!
I absolutely love this! I’ve been harping (among friends) that the idea that the ENTIRE New Republic fleet was destroyed over Hosnian Prime was ridiculous and yet another example of Star Wars writers failing to grasp the *scale* of a galactic government and it’s security forces. This fixes it. There seems to be a similar retcon building in canon. I hope it’s something like this.
For me, both this re-imagined New Republic and your Re-Imagined First Order go hand in hand. Neither is greater than the other, but rather create the foundation for a great conflict to come, with both sides well established, clearly defined, explained and whose values and ideals are clearly expressed and demonstrated. The First Order is far smaller than the New Republic, but it is extremely well organized and prepared for war. The New Republic is fragmented because it has no clear focal point until war starts and then it coalesces to defend it's freedom from the oppression that the First Order represents, and in the middle of it are thousands of worlds that could shift to either side and create a galactic tug of war for both sides. Truly this is the Star Wars galaxy that I would wish to explore, one where there are two sides, both equally powerful and for whom neither victory is assured, but would take a huge struggle to achieve (if it ever can), and in the middle there are mercenaries, bounty hunters, smugglers, pirates, freedom fighters or First Order sympathizers creating a complex but interwoven war narrative as rich as any war could have. In this timeline, politics, differing groups, loyalties and more could be just as essential as the armies that would have to be raised for a conflict of this magnitude, and unlike the Clone Wars or the Galactic Civil War it would be more organic. No side is guaranteed victory, there is no shadow power holding the reins of either side and no side is really more powerful than the other. The opening salvo after the destruction of the New Republics capital is mirrored by the destruction of Starkiller base, and the actions of Luke Skywalker in defying the First Order creates a point of unity for an emerging Republican military to counter the First Order. Furthermore, they have time to build these forces, because the First Order is small to begin with, so it has to choose its battles and strongholds carefully to not overextend, while it builds its forces and its society. Similarly the forces of the Republic, need time roe regroup and prepare a plan of action. They have a small, but capable navy to begin with, and they have to buy time to build their forces up and get their leadership back together, but they have depth of defense that the First Order cannot immediately contest. In the mean time the galaxy will be of the mind of choosing its side carefully, as both sides have advantages and disadvantages and this diplomacy could usher in important battles that would decide the fate of the galaxy as each side seeks to gain against its enemy. This is how much I enjoy this Star Wars world that you built, that it makes me wonder what the battles, armies, weapons, vehicles, ships, heroes and villains of this era that you described could look like. I don't know if we will ever know, but this excites me more than anything in the Star Wars galaxy, since the return of Luke Skywalker to the Mandalorian.
I guess you would like a slightly more political ver. of Knights of the old republic just that the force users are playing a much lesser role than before?
@@kx4998 the way the Templins setting finished, with the First Order beginning it's reconquest and the New Republic coalescing against the surging First Order, opens up infinite possibilities on all fronts of war. Diplomacy, war, subterfuge, backstabbing, double cross, religion, profiteering and simple survival are all on the table, because this is the opening salvo of a war of Galactic Proportions and the sides, like chess are just beginning to make their opening moves. The First Orders, First Order of business (sry, couldn't help it) is to establish a galactic presence in those planets that swear allegiance, gain and stabilize territory and resources and move on to less compliant worlds as they destroy New Republic forces. Wether this is done through outright military might, diplomacy, subterfuge or intimidation will depend on the writer, but eventually a First Order block will materialize and coalesce as one side of the Galactic War. On the New Republic, they will be on the retreat from the well prepared forces of the First Order, even as they mount desperate last stands, desperate delaying actions or prepare guerrilla cells for counter insurgency, all to buy time for the remaining, but currently limited New Republic forces to muster their strength, coalesce as a dedicated war time force and gather their own allies, resources and personnel necessary for the conflict that is set to escalate. In the meantime, the New Republic leadership will have to hold it's allies together against the forces of the First Order and find ways to bring those not yet aligned into their fold through any and all means necessary to create a credible front to the First Orders war machine. In between all that the Jedi and Sith, will begin their own wars for Freedom or Dominance, as the Jedi order is to be reforged in the fires of war, while the Sith extend their grasp beyond their means, considering themselves invincible (as they always do). The possibilities for this setting are limitless and you can choose what part of war interests you more, this hypothetical scenario created by the Templin Institute has more than enough breadth and width to satisfy any specific war interest you may have. Personally I am more interested in the weapons, vehicles, ships, tactics, strategies and units used and the wars fought, than the diplomacy, but I cannot deny how interesting this diplomatic front can be in this scenario.
@@Keemperor40K your last paragraph is the main reason why I'm defending prequels :) . I feel that lots of critics forgot how George pioneering many tech experiments that created stunning visuals and arts way further from its time.
I like that it also leaves plenty of room for other forces to be at play. Mandalorian Crusaders, Lost Tribe of Sith, Chiss, etc… all of them could play a role in some capacity.
I know the Templin Institute doesn’t regularly go into fan fiction. But this was just as amazing as the First Order video! If the Institute made a 2 hour documentary on these alternate, alternate worlds in the second galactic civil war, I would watch it a dozen times!
And they should handsomely rewarded for this. Now if only we can publish a fanfiction book, graphic novel or if one gets ambitious, an animated mini-series.
@@the.dandy.man2 I agree they likely won't reimagine the sequels, but I do think it's possible for them to eventually make a video outlining how they think the war between the New Republic and First Order would go militarily and politically. They could then continue it by outlining the effects of said war on both sides and how the galaxy goes about recovering.
They seem to have done exactly that in this one. They mention for example the growth of fringe pro-Order movements across the Republic, worlds starting to support them and the fact that they slowly gain power rather than strike unexpectedly. These are things they attribute to the reimagined versione of the New Order that aren't present in the canon one. It looks like this video already assumes that the New Order is the one they remade, it simply doesn't mention that too much since there's already a whole other video dedicated to the subject.
I keep waiting for "Star Wars" to finally try and answer the question, "what's so great about democracy anyways?" - "The Republic" is the thing they're fighting for through the whole series, but there's never much of a strong argument about WHY they're fighting for that. The original trilogy just treated the Empire as a self-evident evil, which was fine for the story purposes. But the prequels highlighted all the ways the Republic was a bloated, undemocratic mess already well on its way to irrelevance and decline - if it wasn't the emperor, the Old Republic would have collapsed from something else. The one instance where any Star Wars seemed to be showing that "democracy" might be something worth preserving is in "The Mandalorian", where it shows the New Republic clearly operating on a more humane set of standards - showing mercy, not shooting first, focused on helping rather than just killing and oppressing.
This is because atleast in part, star wars is propoganda for liberalism. Now this doesnt make it bad, it's not. But Your getting into a Major issue with liberal democracy now, that is brilliantly shared in the star wars mythos. In the modern day, our system what we live under, cannot make a defense of itself under it's own merits and without contrasting itself against the external. For example you see the common defense of capitalism as as "well atleast under capitalism I can eat, unlike communism" or "atleast I get a say in who runs the country, unlike under fascism." To get into a little philosophy, it's because the star wars in universe, and our irl universe share a liberal (in 19th century) veiw of metaphysics, which is subjectivist in nature. And you can't really justify something as good or bad, if good and bad are just subjective.
@@andrewjansen1012 I mean you didn't really get that under the Republic given how it powerless to stop slavery or combat the influence of the Hutt clans.

I just love how this New Republic’s structure and history are inspired from so many government and institutions of our own world. It’s basically a slightly more centralised Space EU, but also with bits of the USA and Interwar France
It's actually quite hilarious though because basically all they did is set American history in the star wars universe which honestly isn't a criticism its actually quite an interesting concept
I like how you guys kept elements of the horrible sequel trilogy and in fact made their story even better and more believable and I most especially liked the reintroduction of the most iconic rallying cry for Star Wars “for the Republic”
5:55 "I love peace. I cherish peace with all of my heart. I don't care how many Imperial Remnant men and women I kill to get it for the New Republic." - Chris Smith, elite commando of the New Republic special forces.
This and the First Order reimagined are both masterpieces of creativity, way better than anything the Disney has created. I would love if there was a reimagined video on the conflict between the New Republic and First Order. I also really love how the New Republic and First Order mirror the Old Republic and Sith Empire, considering that era of Star Wars history holds some of my favorite stories.

In time, these groups come together as part of the new Grand Army with this in mind: Either they die as citizens of a free galaxy... or they die trying.
Agreed. Reading about these groups adventures fighting against the First Order, fighting alongside one another, and how they help to save the New Republic, would be amazing.
Well done Templin Institute! You had me teary eyed and fist pumping with that last rally cry! The Republic has endured for thousands of years, and this one will ensure for thousands more to come!
At least in this universe. She is not as swayed to stupid ideas which FDR was in relation to Stalin and all the leftist infiltrating the US Government in our timeline.
I absolutly love this, as I also adore your version of the First Order! While I supposed it could be complicated to show this on a movie, juste having the Resistance working with NR government survivors and a proper armada would be enough than just having paramilitary group fighting the First Order. Seing the Resistance and NR as the underdogs against the FO that was somehow more powerful and resourceful than the Empire was one of the many things I disliked in TFA. I also like that your version don't include the Jedi into the NR. While the Old Republic was based on Jedi being space sheriffs, it was this inter-dependance that lead to both their downfalls. The Empire shows that order and "peace" could be maintained without them. The New Republic has to construct itself without the Jedi (and the new Jedi Order must also rebuild itself and can't help the NR). But seeing one Jedi fighting alone against the First Order, untouched, unharmed (the last scene of Luke Skywalker, one of my favourites in the sequels) and being use as a motivational record to fight gives me chills (as well as the rallying cry "For the Republic!" in the end). As I think your Reimagined versions of the New Republic and the First Order could be evenly matched, I think that in the long run the NR would be winning. The Old Republic is just 40 years ago, the Empire 20, many people still remember the pro and con of each. While the Empire was a "continuation" of some sort of the Old Republic, the New Republic had to face many challenges after "forced takeover" to assure its position. I don't think the First Order could do the same with their limited ressources and controversial reputation inherited from the Empire. Also I don't think that the collaboration between the regular forces of the Sith Eternal and the Asha-Karat would last forever if the conflict last too long. Here's all my thoughts about this amazing video! To anyone who had the courage to read my loooong comment, have a great day! :D
Gosh, that "FOR THE REPUBLIC" send shivers down my spine. Well done, you completely threw the Disney New Republic (they don't deserve that name) out of the window.
Not gonna lie the old battle cry “For the Republic!” being used once again made me tear up. This New Republic definitely surpasses the one (or lack thereof) in the sequels.
@@jimbodeek not even that. They haven’t made back the initial purchase of Star Wars plus the costs of the films. @@aayushdas19 Disney has done many a story about the classic struggle of good against evil. At its core, Star Wars is about the never-ending struggle of good and evil. However, while most Disney stories present the struggle from a very black-and-white perspective, a lot of stories from Star Wars lore do show that these galaxy-wide conflicts are not as… black-and-white as one would assume…
They should have continued more of the story from Clone Wars. Dooku said that 10,000 worlds joined the Separatists, you think they would want to join the New Republic? Most of the Separatists probably blame the Republic for the rise of the Empire. They might have allied with the rebels to overthrow the Empire but I doubt that they'd forget their hatred of the Republic. The galaxy should have been fractured into many different factions, New Republic, Empire Remnants, Separatist Remnants, and a bunch of neutral and independent worlds and smaller alliances.
In canon several breakaway states were mentioned. Including a new separatist union and a corporate confederation or something. And as mentioned in the video there is a significant amount of worlds like you said that didn’t join and stayed independent. I wish they’d named a few like canon tho. And of course both canon and the templin institute mention imperial remnants.
Seeing as nobody seems to have mentioned this, I absolutely love the names of the revolving door chancellors, fantasy names just being real words with small changes is something I always find fun
I love how you tied together the flaws of the New Republic and proposed a solution effectively countering most of those flaws. By the way, (at 33:09 and on) the captions say Sith Eternal and First Order instead of New Republic, and have a couple minor errors. A really amazing video that gave me lots of nostalgia, and a feeling that a proper sequel would've given the New Republic this level of sophistication. Really amazing job, thank you!
One thing I would love to see adopted in science fiction, especially in massive interstellar legislatures: the formation of a permanent “standing committee” within the larger institution, which meets regularly while the larger congress or legislative body is out of session. Essentially, this allows for the benefits of a smaller, more cohesive permanent legislature, while having the representational benefits of a large body with many more members. The larger body has to ratify the decisions of the standing committee, but the standing committee has latitude to operate with more flexibility and the ability to negotiate among a smaller number of members. I think this would work really well in the case of a huge interstellar nation like the Galactic Republic.
A side story for this setting: A large group of Mandalorian Survivors of the Purge banded together and became the Crusaders Reborn, and declared War on an Imperial Remant State. The state, weakened by the "armistice" is left unable to properly defend itself as the vengeful Mandos ravage it, siezing its military hardware, habitable planets, and decimating its population, before declaring it Gratua Tra: Vengeance Space. The rest of the remnants are terrified and enraged, while the Republic is torn internally, as the brutality of the Mandalorians inspires distaste in many citizens(especially those with pro Imperial leanings) while the general hatred of the Old Empire makes it difficult for many to feel any sympathy for the remnant(especially Mandalorian citizens of the Republic). This drives more division in the Republic, and causes the Remnants to desire more military power, and to flock to the New Order, while distrusting the Republic. Now the Republic is faced with a cross roads: do they try and mediate between the Mandalorians and Imperial Remnants? Side with one group against the other? And will the Mandalorians be content with what they have, or continue attacking Imperial Remnants? Will they turn their eyes on the Republic, like their ancestors once did during the time of Revan? But they aren't the only ones faced with difficult choices. Will the New Order seek to punish the Mandos or recruit them like the old Sith often did? Mandalorian warriors are a useful weapon to wield against your enemies, after all. And will Luke or any of his Jedi learn from the mistakes of Revan and the Jedi Order of his time, or will some of them repeat the cycle of the Jedi-Mandalorian Wars?
This would be a great setting! Mandalorian Crusaders back and against the Imperial Remnants. I could think of a certain Lost Tribe that could take advantage of such a tumultuous time.
Absolutely fantastic and original idea that would cause the First Order to become stronger because of outside support for logical reasons. Not everyone was against the empire, seeing worlds get massacred (by whomever doesn’t have to be Mandalorians) would cause more people to think of the republic as uncivilized and especially *chaotic*. This yearning for stability and order would cause support for an empire remnant state.
I love this kind of issues that crop up when its the Republic that is the head of galactic power, because its so poignant about the issues between lofty idealism and the grim realities of geopolitical maneuverings. Its easy to say "stand by your ideals", but that could just as easily be perceived as a "betrayal" of the Republic's natural allies while getting no conceivable benefit from Imperial Remnant factions, and perhaps even embolden such sympathizers in the Republic. It's just such questions that SHOULD have been presented in an age where the democratic power reigns supreme but rumblings of dissent still exist. But no, none of that interesting stuff, just Rebels vs Empire again. :.
@@fumarc4501 The Lost Tribe would be interesting in this setting, indeed. Though without Ben Skywalker and Vestara Khai, the conflict loses alot of drama.
At first, I was a little worried when you got to the Resistance part. I thought you were gonna repeat the "Rebels vs Empire" rehash the Sequel Trilogy did, but nah, I'm Invested now! Full on war! FOR THE REPUBLIC! (Basically, I like that's it's less "New Republic gets destroyed" and more "New Republic gets delt a major blow") Also, I'm curious on how you guys would handle the New Jedi Order. Personally, I would lift the Legends version of the NJO, and combine it with the "Luke's nephew falls to the dark side under his leadership" plot. And MAYBE throw in Luke's self banishment.
I kinda prefer Luke dying in this version tho maybe he have trained some Jedi before passing maybe Rey, Kyo,and Finn can be his former student and some few more maybe a baby Yoda who name I forgotten as a student too
Personally i would also add that Rey used to be a member as well, she's either the daughter of Leia and Han instead of Ben or the daughter of two renowed Jedi master of the New Jedi Order, in both cases Rey was one of the best students of the Jedi Praxeum in both lightsaber combat and the use of the Force even rivaling many Jedi masters despite being only a Padawan. In addition she's a genius in many scientific and humanistic field due to her time spending on the library of the Jedi Praxeum and she's also a master of Teras Kasi believing it would be useful to her. Rey decided to follow the path of the Jedi healer but after the destruction of the Jedi Praxeum she escaped on the criminal underwolrd becoming a smuggler, she also developed PTSD due to having lost either both of her Jedi masters' parents or only his father Han Solo. As for the rest of the Jedi Order i would make that Luke exiled himself after his wife and children were killed in the attack while both Leia and Ahsoka reorganized the New Jedi Order as a Resistance group against the Empire (not the First Order).
@@samuelebincoletto637 This. I was all for Rey being a remnant of the NJO that was forced to flee and maybe having her memories wiped while the older Jedi went into hiding to strike out against the remnants of the Empire. It would explain so much of her talents without needing a "Rey is Chosen One/Rey is the daughter of important Force Wielder". While also leaving the door open for the NJO and the ideals that Luke instilled in it to survive and prosper again. For Luke to really be the "first of the new" Jedi, instead of just another hiccup. Edit: I definitely wouldn't have her being a "rival for many Jedi Masters", but definitely be an advanced Padawan, personally. And the other stuff about her being a genius is too much. She's just a random talented Jedi that was foisted onto a bad position and would be among one of many to help bring down the new threat. It's through her actions that she would stand up above the rest, not her intrinsic traits like being a genius or uber talented.
The NJO being killed off was one of the worst parts of the ST backstory. Maybe instead of killing off all of Luke's students, some escaped. Even in canon, several were off-world during his temple's destruction (though they ended up killed by Kylo Ren later). Maybe more are off-world and, knowing what happened, lie low, waiting for their chance to strike. I'd maybe include such Legends Jedi such as Corran Horn, Kyle Katarn and Mara Jade among those. Heck, even Ezra Bridger and Ahsoka could be running around with their own squads. It wouldn't make much since for there to be no other Knights other than Luke by that point in time, even if Luke already had a natural talent. Though, if I were directing Episode VIII, I'd have Luke have students on Acht-to with him. Of course, if I were directing Episode VII, I wouldn't have had Kylo Ren kill off Luke's Jedi. It was such a cheap way to change it back to the status quo of a lone Jedi. And yeah, it would make more sense if Rey was trained a little bit beforehand. Heck, even with existing canon, it would have made more sense for her parents to drop her off with Luke instead of with a random, abusive slaver. Or maybe she was trained by one of those other Jedi knights who were offworld and laying low. Now that's just making me think of my abandoned ST rewrite fanfic with Lor San Tekka as one of Luke's Jedi (and Kylo Ren had to fight him)... That would have at least made his character a bit less one-note.
@@akl2k7 I was thinking of something like this, that not all members of the NJO were killed but were able to escape, the only difference is that many of them were regrouped by Leia Organa and Ahsoka Tano turning it into the Resistance which in my version is actually a fragmented NJO. As for Luke i would still make that he exiled himself on Ahch-To because his wife Mara Jade and their children were killed in the attack on the temple as well, just like the actual movies he became disillusioned with the Jedi believing to be in part responsible for the death of his family but after training Rey he was able to heal his trauma and comes back to be once again the Grandmaster of the NJO with Rey as his new Padawan.

I think it would be interesting to make a further video with reimagined smaller factions. For example, the New Jedi Order, Imperial Remnants who dislike the first order, intergalactic corporations, the Mandalorian Protectors, professional mercenaries, independent alliances in the Outer Rim, criminal organizations etc.
Indeed. I could see the Mandalorians playing a critical role in this reimagined conflict. Perhaps led by an older Din Djarin, leading the charge of warriors from every clan and house as the new Manda'lor, Darksaber in hand?
I'm expecting that in this reimagined universe some imperial remnant joined the new alliances due to either unwillingness to be under the thumb of a new regime or just to keep the current status quo going as it work for them. Either way, seeing old imperial star destroyer fighting alongside mon-calamari cruiser and the republic navy fleet remnant attacking the planet destroying weapon of the first order would be a sight to see don't you think?
I LOVE the idea of the Endor-class being both a capable dreadnought and planetary crisis response vessel. This idea alone sells your take on the New Republic and how they would approach a post-Imperial navy.
I’d love to hear more stories about the Droid Legion & Imperial Walker Volunteer Groups and their adventures in defending New Republic citizenry! There’s just something about imagining Separatist Droids & Imperial generals yelling “For the Republic!” in the face of a First Order army that just puts a warm smile on my face! 😭
"This is no peace" claimed one Senator. "merely an armistice for thirty years." "This is not a peace" said Marshal Foch. "merely an armistice for twenty years." (on the Treaty of Versailles) I see where that came from.
Hera Syndulla is perhaps my favorite new canon character, however I don’t see her as chancellor, her focus has always been military and espionage, and post Endor her desire is to live low with her family. Superb in every regard though
She did only end up serving for one term, and it was twenty years after the end of the Galactic Civil War when she was elected. Maybe after Jacen grew up, she got into politics.
You put more work in to the development of the New Republic for a half hour video than the entire Lucasfilm Story Group put in for an entire trilogy of movies costing hundreds of millions each. JJ Abrams: "New Republic? BORING! More explosions! More mystery boxes!"
I must say that I really liked your reimagined version of the New Republic. Unlike many others, you're not haters and just like with your version of the First Order you took the canon as a template to build upon. I think that your reimagined versions are better than the original ones but the problem would be to put these things into movies. I mean the movies would have to not just introduce the new factions but also introduce the new characters, integrate the old ones, create a plot etc. But I would've liked to see the New Republic fighting against the First Order and if there's one thing that's really annoying me about the new canon is that the New Republic was crushed in a single strike. Yes, the Hosnian Prime could've been destroyed, the New Republic dealt a serious blow but I would've liked people fighting in its name and proving that democracies can fight and win a war.
As previous comments said, there's no need to do that in the movie. In fact, with this video they have proved that with a few minor details, some fixes here and there and well constructed lore can actually make something awfull a lot better. I do not hate the new trilogy for wasting the EU. Characters like Mara Jade, Kyle Katarn or many others are already things I will not forgett but I'm not a nostalgic. I can let all of that flew away for a well constructed, interesting lore like this one. I hate the current sequel trilogy because it's been done with no planification, no lore, no plan or any kind of love for it's own internal coherency or consistency, just as a fast created, money milking soulless stuff that it's boring to watch. Serioulsy, I'm big fan of Star Wars and I'm not even that picky, I just want a movie to be entertaining, I loved clone wars, mandalorian and rebels, and I loved them all. But with this new movies I just fall asleep. In the cinema. For someone like me to fall asleep during a Star Wars movie is actually quite alarming.
The amount of stories you could get from the volunteer forces alone is just astounding. I would love to watch tv shows, or read books on each of those groups. Especially the AT walkers. Sounds like such a fun story idea. Sure it's the mercenary idea all over. But trying to function within a government hierarchy and even working along side the proper military leaves open so many social, political, and military conflicts that would be fascinating to explore.
You cannot begin to imagine how happy I was and how wide I smiled when I heard the "For the Republic" line. This truly is a masterpiece of galaxy-building, it's sad that Disney could not match this level.
Love this. Especially love Mon Mothma aggressively nationalising the Oligarchs' industries. I love how both this and your First Order video still fit with the events of the films, so I can just exist in my own head Canon of TFA and TLJ, with these videos weaving between them and the original trilogy, and I can just ignore the existing of ROS, which is always a good thing.
I completely love this reimagining. I especially loved how the New Republic tried to repair the relationship between the military and the citizenship after the trauma of the Empire. Definetly would have preferred this.
This was awesome. This is what the NR should have been in the Sequel. Though the one thing I did not like was that no mention of what happened to the Jedi or what even happens to Force users in the NR. Hope to see a sequel to the Reimagined videos showing which side wins in this new war.
There should be a movie, a show or even a book or a comic about this alternative new Republic and the alternative war against the first order. This already sounds incredible
Thinking of the same thing. The potential of the lore is massive if not limitless. Disney can kcus their kcid as the fanbase leaves them for this "fanfiction" lore.
The sheer amount of spin off stories that could be made from all these different groups are incredible Amazing what you can do when you take a universe and let it progress logically
I thought that you could never top how amazing the reimagined first order video was. I was wrong. You might as well rewrite the entire sequel trilogy at this point, I need more of this!
I know this video is older but I was unable to watch it because I was on deployment, but I still hope you see this comment. I absolutely LOOVE the similarities you are making with real American history, it is phenomenal, keep it up, I love all the work you guys put out.

Seconded

Once again the Templin Institute did more in a half hour then Disney did in 3 movies.
This is the canon to me now.
Since around the time The Clone Wars series hit its peak, canon was effectively in the hands of any patrons that could keep up the original messages and the ever lasting hope, unity and redemption focused space opera design of old Star Wars mixing EU and the movies (which are now blurred as is). That’s how I see it.
The New Republic Ranger Corps is what the Resistance in the new trilogy movies should've been;
instead of a pseudo-wannabe rebellion, the Rangers would be the force used by the New Republic to monitor and/or engage the rising First Order; logically and narratively the Ranger Corps makes much more sense than some random unsanctioned paramilitary group like the Resistance
Edit: that being said, Templin's new version of the resistance is more believable and interesting than the movies
It’s effectively a nod to the Arizona and Desert Rangers from Wasteland but the dynamic is good for a balanced fight between a post-war elite outlander special forces and a neofascist OP stratocracy a la a *truly* fanatical and endless Brotherhood of Steel. I liked the idea of characters from canon and legends being leaders in the New Republic. I can imagine Hera Syndulla flying her own transports advertising her own campaign and supporting new pilots in the New Republic starfighter corp.
It is pretty awesome that she got to serve as Chancellor. Shame she only served one term.

@@LordCommander-ui2fw oh god, that walking war crime should not be let anywhere near the senate.
I wonder where would Sabine, Zeb, & Jacen would be in this reimagining. 🤔
@@kx4998 It's actually very similar to the Great Galactic War from SWTOR. But with fewer force users, but also on a much larger scale.
@@Keemperor40K your last paragraph is the main reason why I'm defending prequels :) . I feel that lots of critics forgot how George pioneering many tech experiments that created stunning visuals and arts way further from its time.

This!
Maybe a High Command Mini-Series documenting the First Order war, with supplemental videos covering various topics related to it.
They can't do that. Disney will sue them for coming up with better Star Wars ideas than they have. Taking embarrassment is not what they do well.
Liberty and freedom I would say. Can't really get that w the Empire. Not really anyway

Damn did you make this up or do these have a basis in lore somewhere? I'm imagining quite the tense scene as Leia & the resistance calls a council of war to anyone left standing post Hosia. The only ones to answer the call are the misfits and problem children of the galaxy.
I mean they’re all effectively fun and creatively written sci fi/fantasy DnD groups or mini side bands you might have for the main characters to learn to work with or around temporarily or just be one off interesting encounters
In time, these groups come together as part of the new Grand Army with this in mind: Either they die as citizens of a free galaxy... or they die trying.

Ok. I felt chills there at the end. I WANT this! Dammit, why couldn't you have written the sequels?

@@aayushdas19 Disney has done many a story about the classic struggle of good against evil. At its core, Star Wars is about the never-ending struggle of good and evil.
However, while most Disney stories present the struggle from a very black-and-white perspective, a lot of stories from Star Wars lore do show that these galaxy-wide conflicts are not as… black-and-white as one would assume…
Seeing reimaginings like this make me weep, and whimper “Star Wars could’ve been so much better.”
Ironically there is actually a New Separatist Union in Star Wars canon, that rose up after Endor.
The CIS will rise again!
I'm sure many would, and others would have seen the New Republic as fresh start away from the corruption that formed in the Republic.
@@TheTendermenEspecially in this timeline after Mothma crushed the Oligarchs.
A side story for this setting:
A large group of Mandalorian Survivors of the Purge banded together and became the Crusaders Reborn, and declared War on an Imperial Remant State.

At first, I was a little worried when you got to the Resistance part. I thought you were gonna repeat the "Rebels vs Empire" rehash the Sequel Trilogy did, but nah, I'm Invested now! Full on war! FOR THE REPUBLIC! (Basically, I like that's it's less "New Republic gets destroyed" and more "New Republic gets delt a major blow")
Also, I'm curious on how you guys would handle the New Jedi Order.

The Lost Tribe of the Sith.
And then those guys become more like the Fel Empire than the actual empire.
Honestly, the AT-AT Walkers core sounds bad ass as hell. I'd love to see media about that.
I LOVE the idea of the Endor-class being both a capable dreadnought and planetary crisis response vessel. This idea alone sells your take on the New Republic and how they would approach a post-Imperial navy.
''This is not peace, it is an armistice for 20 years'' - Ferdinand Foch.
Nice.
not gonna lie, the end gave me chill . This is so much better than the original
Same here. So good, I was ready to go blast some Stormtroopers for a second.
The ending brought me to tears. Man, oh man, this was a thousand times better than Disney's canon. Thank you!
Even setting everything else aside, the last 3 minutes was an infinitely superior transition from TLJ to RoS than we actually got.
And it sets up a war that makes the Clone Wars look small in comparison.
"This is no peace" claimed one Senator. "merely an armistice for thirty years."
"This is not a peace" said Marshal Foch. "merely an armistice for twenty years." (on the Treaty of Versailles)
I see where that came from.
Perhaps it was a scenario where it was less what she wanted to do and more the people around her telling her she was the only one fit for the job.
@@kirkkerman That too. She got shoehorned into the job, a la Washington.
Yes, the Hosnian Prime could've been destroyed, the New Republic dealt a serious blow but I would've liked people fighting in its name and proving that democracies can fight and win a war.
movies only have to show the important battles and plots.
everything else can be expanded universe/ TV show stuff. MCU shows that this can work.
@@thebravegallade731 yes and the movies failed to do that.
What does nationalising mean to a super national government.
And in one move you destroyed any company who want to invest in Republic space.
@@Infernal460 Found the First Order, guys get him
that "for the republic" at the end gave me shivers
I completely love this reimagining. I especially loved how the New Republic tried to repair the relationship between the military and the citizenship after the trauma of the Empire. Definetly would have preferred this.
This was awesome. This is what the NR should have been in the Sequel. Though the one thing I did not like was that no mention of what happened to the Jedi or what even happens to Force users in the NR.
Hope to see a sequel to the Reimagined videos showing which side wins in this new war.
this is the most star wars "Thing" I've seen since The Mandalorian. FOR THE REPUBLIC!!!
The last line "For the republic" gave me shivers
these Volunteer forces sound like a great premise for a tactical RPG or even an MMORPG
That "For the Republic!" at the end, gave me chills.
The sheer amount of spin off stories that could be made from all these different groups are incredible
Amazing what you can do when you take a universe and let it progress logically
I thought that you could never top how amazing the reimagined first order video was. I was wrong. You might as well rewrite the entire sequel trilogy at this point, I need more of this!
Now I need a trilogy of these two reimagined factions
I know this video is older but I was unable to watch it because I was on deployment, but I still hope you see this comment. I absolutely LOOVE the similarities you are making with real American history, it is phenomenal, keep it up, I love all the work you guys put out.
hell ye brother
This sounds a lot like the United Federation of Planets...
UFP is more centralized though
Well most takes of the new republic follow the forms of democracy that the UFP is inspired on
Sounds like a European Union formed after WW1.
shhh
