***** Very correct! My concern is not on Golden Eagle package...but on finding a SOLID - REPUTABLE, TRUSTWORTHY and HONEST local builder/general contractor than can DO IT RIGHT in Northern Virginia ! *****
Most important part of this product for me is at the 34 minute mark. I watched a ton of Matt's videos while building a concrete construction block house in Cabo San Lucas. Unlike anyone I know here, my house has insulated walls and ceiling. So while everyone else is too afraid to run AC during summer, I have AC running 24/7/365 completely off grid solar. You're best R value with logs is 1.5 per inch so I would definitely go this insulated R-31 half log route.
Great video. Love the Golden Eagle videos and yours. One of my favorites of theirs is a couple's high tech log home. Their jobs from home require the internet so that is well integrated. Then they have tech features such as hidden power blinds such as light black out blinds in the bedrooms that can be set to open at a given time. Lighting that ramps up to wake you like a sunrise and much more. All that and it looks like a beautiful modern log home. It could as easily looked old school traditional.
For me, the ideas in ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
Very interesting, Matt! One of my favorites. Thermal mass is only useful on wide temperature swings that are happening daily. When both day and night are below freezing your thermal bank is empty. It's similar to battery storage for solar panels above the arctic circle in December-your battery is on empty and won't recharge till spring.
Most of these homes have have external heating such as fireplaces and/or in floor heating. The logs will hold this external heat. Even in cold air temperatures, large surface areas can adsorb a decent amount of heat in direct sunlight. I've been in old log homes (even refurbished) you can feel a breeze in the home from the pressure differences from inside and out. This isn't an issue with these modern log homes.
Outstanding video ! Quality and professionalism through and through. I have watched many a Golden Eagle Video and your presentation just adds another quality and informative dimension. Thank you !
What a company, thanks Matt, truly one of your best. I sure hope their log storage yard is 150% stocked because they are going to start getting really busy!
It is awesome to hear a supplier that has so much engineering, preparation and design to make the builder’s job easier. My question is how does golden eagle deal with log home maintenance, particularly checks in the log that catch and trap moisture. I have worked on a nightmare of a log home that checking has not only destroyed the “log siding”, but has compromised the framing. At least a mention of maintenance is necessary to the thought of building any log home.
Just like any other home, whatever happens after the warranty period is on the home owner. Anyone building a traditional log home should be well aware of the risks.
Keep those logs dry and we’ll away from the ground! Large overhangs and regular maintenance are required. Old log homes suck moisture from the concrete foundation and it rots out the lower logs which in turn allows bugs in. My brother owned a small log home built in the 1920’s that was fairly rotted in the 1980’s.
Yes, touch the exterior wall from the inside and it will be be warm due to the thermal mass. The problem is with a wall that is R10, it will also be warm on the outside. You’re still losing the heat equivalent to any R10 wall assembly, but the interior comfort will be better because it won’t quickly lose heat. It’s not overly efficient, but it is comfortable.
Don't mind sponsored "commercial " type videos at all because Matt does such a good job presenting that it means I don't have to watch an actual commercial from the manufacturer where nothing is actually explained half the time anyway.
I've looked at Golden Eagle but didn't realize they also did concrete logs or the split for added insulation. A somewhat similar company, although I don't THINK they're quite as "full service" is Everlog
Thanks Matt , older retired GC carpenter and commercial building facilities maintenance guy here. You have great content across all your media platforms.
Good video. Sounds like a nice company. Although while thermal mass may help even out your heating requirements, if the outside of the house feels warm, that is just too low of an r value. It would also be nice to quantify what they mean by long lasting exterior finish.
Always love your stuff. Kills me that you did Golden Eagle Home Show. I’ve been putting both show together for 5 years. 3 yyaers more then I build a dream.
I’ll be the bad skeptical guy with log structure experience. They work well in climates with stable humidity, like Wyoming or western Colorado. They are abysmal in climates like Missouri or Maryland where humidity varies from zero to -50+ grains per cubic foot over the year.
Prices 10× more than a average home. These are for those with no budget limit. I live by thier main office. Did contract work on some of the kits when swan builders did the decorative finishes. Log walls with extreme efficiency and windows all over.! High maintenance and typically not available in city zones. The cathedral ceilings don't even have the R38 insulation required for this climate. They are for fashion statements, not living.
Matt, I was in Builders First choice this morning and wanted to say hello but didn't get a chance. By total coincidence, you were the reason I was actually in there - after seeing your video in Mar Vista (where, bizarrely, I also used to live) I decided to go see them about window/sliding door options for a 30x18ft corner window wall I'm building in my barndo an hour east of Austin.
my buddy bought a log home here in ontario canada once his insurance company found out they cancelled his house insurance...seems there are only a few insurance companies that provide expensive insurance for log homes ..just saying...
Well, as an FYI, I'd never have anything to do with log homes in South Texas again. Log homes have too many problems with rot and termites around the Gulf Coast and every one I know of in the region was having the builder sued within 4 to 5 years.
I'm not a fan of log home construction. Yes, they look great, but cold weather performance is poor. Many of my friends live in log homes and repeat the "lots of thermal mass!' mantra but burn extraordinary quantities of heating fuel (wood, gas, oil, electricity) in the cold winter months (minus 42C just the other day, Dec. 2022). No matter how you spin it, wood has an R value of approximately 1.0 per inch, and that's just not good enough for me. Our home has foot-thick double stud walls, Hardi on the exterior and blown-in Rockwool inside. About R48.
It was pretty informative, so I don’t mind sponsored videos like this too much. It’s not just hype, but he’s getting into the manufacturing process and details, which is cool. But I definitely see why other folks don’t like this stuff. It has to be hard to have enough video ideas for twice a week though lol
A large number of his videos are sponsered just like this. He's done -commercials- informative videos for many products and brands. He does tend to point out pros and cons. More balanced than many who make similar videos, and gives a lot of information about products or people you may end up using or working with.
***** Very correct! My concern is not on Golden Eagle package...but on finding a SOLID - REPUTABLE, TRUSTWORTHY and HONEST local builder/general contractor than can DO IT RIGHT in Northern Virginia ! *****
I love the pride the owner has for his product.
The owner has more currency than everyone who commented, combined.
I’ve been following Golden Eagle for a few years. They have epic home packages.
Epic might be an understatement

I love love Golden eagle! I think it’s the best 1 stop house plan there is!!
I have been wondering for years when you two would end up doing a video together! It didn’t disappoint.
Grats on this partnership, great initiative and a great result!
i absolutely love timber framed homes. so cool

This has gotta be my favorite video of the channel so far Matt! What a great company
Love both of your channels. So happy to see a video together like this!
I really love log homes. As a carpenter myself all wood work is noticed . And there’s no grander scale than timber frame home.
Great family business. Can't wait to see a house build by Risinger build!
Thanks for putting this company on my radar, Matt!
The contrast in accents is entertaining
Great to see Zach and his team on the build show. Great outfit located in Wisconsin Rapids.
Very interesting, Matt! One of my favorites.

I've been following both Matt and Golden Eagle for a long time. Two of my favorites. It would be interesting to see Matt build a Golden Eagle home.
This honestly looks like an awesome product and package.
Thank you for doing this Matt, I have enjoyed Golden Eagle videos and their commitment to quality.
Outstanding video ! Quality and professionalism through and through. I have watched many a Golden Eagle Video and your presentation just adds another quality and informative dimension. Thank you !
Must be nice... a Candy Store for the 1 percenters!
I will have to visit the design center just to get some ideas 😉
most impressive operation I have ever seen.
I’ve been waiting for these two to meet up!
What a company, thanks Matt, truly one of your best. I sure hope their log storage yard is 150% stocked because they are going to start getting really busy!
nice and mostly stunning, but 0:03 bothers me. why metal brackets?
Great video. Golden Eagle is like Disneyland for log homes.

Yep. Also, height loss. He said “no ‘unexpected’ settling”. How much is expected?
Just like any other home, whatever happens after the warranty period is on the home owner. Anyone building a traditional log home should be well aware of the risks.

Really good video. I knew Matt couldn't wait to show us how the window would be flashed! To be honest I was wondering the same thing the whole time.
BEAUTIFUL

Yeah, the real question is WHY it meets code ANYWHERE!! It doesn't
It has always been my dream to build a custom home, and this would be totally my style!!
Interesting , Thank you . I hope that every thing keeps working so well .
Nice presentation
Don't mind sponsored "commercial " type videos at all because Matt does such a good job presenting that it means I don't have to watch an actual commercial from the manufacturer where nothing is actually explained half the time anyway.
Its exactly like BMC ready frame but for a log house. Pretty darn cool.
Very cool Matt 😎

Matt you gotta work on your "Body Envelope" coming out in a hoodie in WI in December ??
29:10 contracts and pricing discussed in the Men's Room? as it should be
Very nice. Almost makes me wish I was a GC!
How often do you have to stain the exterior of the different logs?
Be interesting to see a blower door test on a few of these homes.
Thanks Matt , older retired GC carpenter and commercial building facilities maintenance guy here. You have great content across all your media platforms.
OMG Thats beautiful !

I really love these loghouses :)
How often does the interior and exterior logs need to be treated ?
May want to look at Q8 Log - Deck - Fence oil
Awesome stuff Matt! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
This is the best! Thanks for sharing
It's so funny when Matt gets these professionals on his show and he just dominates them LOL he controls the conversation and talks over people. LOL
Finally! I’ve been waiting for this video for over a year! I’m going to enjoy this video!
There is my dream home!!!
This is the THIRD UA-cam channel I've seen feature this house. Talk about marketing.
Matt, were you in Wisconsin Rapids? Ha! Right next door.
Wow! Your the man Matt..
30 degrees Fahrenheit is warm. What are you thinking Matt? 🤔😉🤣
I am in negatives after SIX consecutive storm fronts over the past week with a total of almost 4'. Matt hasn't seen winter yet!
Always love your stuff. Kills me that you did Golden Eagle Home Show. I’ve been putting both show together for 5 years. 3 yyaers more then I build a dream.
28:00. Phytosanitary … does that mean mold?
Maybe but other things to like bacteria fungi and insects.
I’ll be the bad skeptical guy with log structure experience. They work well in climates with stable humidity, like Wyoming or western Colorado. They are abysmal in climates like Missouri or Maryland where humidity varies from zero to -50+ grains per cubic foot over the year.
I'm intrigued
Awesome video thanks
The accents!!! 😂 “you may not knowtice”
Matt, that is NOT snow. That is just white dust.

matt really nerded out on this one , as did I
Neat company
I really wish that electric and plumbing installation would have been touched on. At first glance, it looks like a nightmare.
Any builders for your homes near Bozeman MT?
potentially confusing signage @ 29:30 lol
Who is the manufacturer of your concrete logs?
Who in pa built your house
Awesome
Didn't know you would be in my neighborhood I'd have bought you lunch. 😂
That's not a house. That's a MANSION
Wait, What, $7/mo to join, I’ve never seen a “join fee” on The Tube of U before 😮

DIY friendly. I could totally do this. 🤣
Precision Craft vs Golden Eagle..?
Curtain Side - trailers - standard in Europe Flatbed trailers in North America - water damage of the materials.
something sexy and romantic about a rugged, American West log home
What's going on with image stabilization? Is the cameraman shaking? :D
It’s the wide lens they have on the camera
Curious now, how log homes got around insulation codes.
Its 1 r per inch so with enough wood you'll make it. ButI think their exmept from em, seal em up super tight and you'll get passive house standards.
"Charles Ingalls"
my buddy bought a log home here in ontario canada once his insurance company found out they cancelled his house insurance...seems there are only a few insurance companies that provide expensive insurance for log homes ..just saying...
Everyone! Say it together VER bo...
Holy Moly these houses! What do you call this style, "hillbilly stumbles into money"? The perfect mix of rustic kitsch and megalomania..
Camera wobble seems to be getting worse.
But super awesome video otherwise.

LOL that builder guy is SO awkward HAHAHHAHHAHAHA
Wonder how much they paid matt for this commercial. Interesting.
Right? awkward.

Hopefully a decent amount. It was a good video. I found it interesting to see a different style of home and building package.

DEFINITELY
What are you selling ? 4 million$ homes ? c'mon !
WOOD=R1/inch.........Not so great!
This camera is nauseating.
Shots from the side of your talking to the camera destroy the illusion that you are talking to your audience, and destroy that connection.
First
How about something more modest and pratical
