SOLIDWORKS PDM - Create Workflow Notification

PDM workflow transition notifications are quite useful in notifying the next approver that they have files that are awaiting their approval. They only take a few minutes to set up and can be tied to groups, so a change in the group members will update who gets notified when a file is submitted for approval. Additionally, by making the notifications dynamic, the recipients can be specified when the file is submitted for approval.
In this video, I demonstrate how to create a simple folder notification. A folder notification will be triggered when a file goes through the transition with the folder notification - if the file is in the specified folder. The default is to specify the root level of the PDM vault, so all files going through this transition will trigger the notification.
There is another type of notification called a “Conditional” notification. Help on how to utilize this notification are covered in another article which is linked below.

Hello, Is it possible to configure dynamic notifications so that users are always required to select one or more recipients from the list? To we make sure someone always receive a notification.

The problems I have with the workflow notifications is: 1) The email goes out to everyone in a group, then everyone in the group thinks they need to go approve the document. 2) The person making the transition has to know who to select from the dynamic list - which isn't necessarily going to be the case. 3) You can't have 30 notifications setup for each state for different approval organizations (for example: maintenance is approving this file, while engineering is approving that one). 4) Managing users directly or lots of tiny groups is very tedious.

Unfortunately the notifications system is very simple and does not have the ability to be programmed in that way. There are enhancement requests in the system to develop smarter notifications.
