I love that so much. I always try to go for spear builds in games because they're way underrated in pop culture unfortunately. I already loved Dark & Darker but after watching this vid and realizing they actually made spears super viable, I'm now a fan haha. Looking forward to making my spear fighter.
@@GeeGe. My only grievance is that the thing that makes a spear weak does not exist in the game, you could hug a spearman and he's still hitting you with the tip of his spear. Now I have no idea how they'd fix that but it might just make the weapon unusable, unless you use it to fight around your allies which is a very practical and real use of a spear.
@@SoakieCat So in real life you wouldn't be able to take a spear jab to the face and keep walking forward to hug the spearmen, either. In my opinion, it balances out nicely enough
@@GeeGe. I mean you have a shield for a reason, I do a form of re-enactment and I'm part of Hrafn Vaerengi and it's hard to stab a man who have a 60 cm diameter shield and a weapon to deflect your swings.

Still, my point is that we can't expect the physics of this game to emulate real life combat too well, that would be an entirely different game in the first place. For every aspect that is negatively, let's say "unrealistic", you can find a point in which that lack of realism also elevates the fun of the game's combat. That's why I'm more than happy that this game is one of the few that chose to make spears more realistically viable, even if that "realism" doesn't hold up perfectly elsewhere (which, as I explained, would be a near impossible standard). There's a competitive medieval fighting game that I saw cropping up last year that I think you might be interested in, but I can't for the life of me remember its name right now. If I do manage to recall the name I'll try to remember to pop back in here and tell you what it is!
As A ranger Id like to play with Spear. its So good when u can start at range and then just bring long spear. Its comfortable vs all melee mobs And u have bow to kill all other at range. U 2shot all crates and barrels u fast to open chest. Spear making this game so comfortable to ranger.
There's a reason why spears were the medieval weapon of choice. You ideally want to keep your enemy away from you, and what better to do that than a pointy stick

8:00 made me laugh so hard because that ranger could literally be any of us, miss a crossbow shot and then do a "oh shit" run then turn around and try your best to hold your own trying to jump around and dodge and weave only to fail pitifully because you got hit anyways and also missed both your swings
@@69RobertLOL The perk gives them an effective +10 strength when using a spear. This is to make up for their crappy 10 strength score. It's a bit much if you ask me though.
My guy, as soon as you heard that trap hit the barb while you were almost back to half hp, you shoulda turned on that barb instantly. With a spear, you end that mans life in seconds.
Wizard in a voiced three man is so much fun Wizard solo is helpless and food for predators That was atleast my 10 hours experience in the past open week.
A really geared wizard can be a total menace, but yea it requires a lot of skill and a team certainly helps. Helps to have someone in the group that can take some hits if things get hairy.

Thanks for checking it out! Dark and Darker is a medieval fantasy take on extraction looter shooters, like Escape from Tarkov. It has battle royale elements like the closing circle from PUBG, but more of a focus on loot and persistence since you can keep what you extract with if you survive. The combat itself is reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls or Mordhau, and the loot might remind you of Diablo. The classes and stat system in the game draw heavy inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons. It's all about a brutal but rewarding PvPvE experience where you compete against other players for loot in a dungeon. They're doing a free playtest through Steam on February 6th if you wanted to check it out for yourself.

Absolutely. For the fighter falchion and longsword are also top tier, but I still prefer the spear. Before the nerf to weapon mastery I would run axes on my fighter, but now I would recommend sticking to those three melee weapons.
i hope this next play test doesnt make better gear so oppressive you kinda just have zero chance when a better than average player has better gear. When someone can 2 tap you from full hp and it take you 4-6 its kinda a crap shoot.
I think that the flat additional damage on items could certainly be reduced or even removed to address that. Otherwise, it's really easy to get gear in DaD. I think the problem that most players have is that they choose to hoard good gear rather than using it. You would be surprised how many players go into high roller with the base starter gear hoping to have a come up. If they can afford the 70g ante, they can afford to at least bring in a better weapon and some heals, and yet they don't. I know that doesn't represent everyone, and there are new players, but I don't feel bad being rewarded for actually using the gear I find. Just my thoughts since I see a trend of comments like this. Thank you for taking a look at the video and creating a constructive dialogue.
You totally can and should because headshots have a damage multiplier. You do leave yourself open to getting poked in the knees though. Shields don't cover your entire body no matter how you hold them.
Spear is one of the most broken weapons in the game. Always headshots, and you can wiggle it on and off target and hit 2-10 times depending on how fast you wiggle, or even bounce between 2 targets and hit each several times in a single thrust. A pretty Kool but also very abusable thing.
Thank you! Making this video made me realize just how many bangers there are in the DOS2 OST. We just played through the BG3 early access, and it's looking promising. There are still a lot of bugs, and there's only about 1/3 of the game out right now, but the world is dense with lore and secrets. Every dialogue choice has immediate impactful consequences, which makes for some great group drama.
After a few hours, I only used spear as well, very nasty against every mob and player. Longswords probably the next best bet for fighters but still inferior to spears.
Wizards are great buffers, so if you're playing with a team I'd recommend staying on the backline and buffing your frontline guys. If we're talking about 1v1 wizard versus fighter, you're going to need to hurt the fighter pretty bad before they get close to you. As soon as they show any sign of retreat, you've got them by the balls. But if they full commit and get close to you I'd recommend a strategic escape with haste and invis. I had a wizard invis behind me and immediately cast magic missiles earlier today, which almost got me. A couple other points: Wizards scaling with magic damage is absolutely broken, it may help to play ratty and save up gear. Also, fighters in heavy armor get magic resist penalties, which is going to help you deal more damage. Just my two cents though! I haven't played much wizard personally.

The game is actually dark by design. I know it can be hard to see at times, but it's definitely part of the fun. I do have my gamma and vibrance turned up quite a bit.
Love the PvE but the wraith really forces players to play with a team. That’s not a bad thing, just kinda bottlenecks the newer player base, some people just enjoy playing solo
You can totally take down the wraith solo with a little practice. It also only spawns in pre-determined locations, so you can learn to avoid it if you don't feel confident you can beat it solo. I think it's great that the devs aren't afraid to implement challenging monsters in the dungeon that require practice and encourage team play. It goes a long way to prevent the PvE from becoming a slog, like it quickly does in Hunt: Showdown. The goal should be for the PvE to be just as engaging and rewarding as the PvP, and Dark and Darker does that pretty well.
Last playtest i was a longsword main and jesus christ, u can like "counter attack" with the defend button and pressing right click after a success block, but i've bought like 10 GOD spears full dmg but didn't use one since when i was about to use one spear i got a GOD Halberd on valentine, it had strength + true dmg + physychal dmg + all stats 2, and holy... Halberd is by far the best weapon, no one knows how to play against and i've been literally wiping lobby after lobby on high roller, and the good thing is: Only fighter can use it. (it is good because the price drops since Spear can be also used for ranger class and its hard to get spear, soo the price went up since 2 classes want it, but halberd only one class use { fighter } and there's not many people using, i got a unique for like 600G with pretty good stats)
i bet you will not do this because "that will not work" but trust me bro run 3 clerics all running judgement and smite then all judgement a barb or fighter and they are insta dead then use your smite to beat the others with default weapons (you could run naked so the people think you wont stand a chance then boom all 3 dead to 3 naked clerics) its soooo funny you have to make a video on that before the play test ends
Hey that's a fun idea! I've seen how powerful judgement can be and I'm sure it would work. Probably won't get a chance to do that this playtest but I have been playing more with the ranger and cleric. I'll keep that one in mind for next time around.

Partial to longsword because it has a riposte no one knows about or uses. Its super fast and hard to block because of the obvious delay on everything.
Longsword is in my top three fighter weapons for sure. Definitely S tier.

Love the PvE but the wraith really forces players to play with a team. That’s not a bad thing, just kinda bottlenecks the newer player base, some people just enjoy playing solo
That being said… I haven’t been able to enjoy another game since playing this one. Got my friends hooked after one game
You can totally take down the wraith solo with a little practice. It also only spawns in pre-determined locations, so you can learn to avoid it if you don't feel confident you can beat it solo.
I think it's great that the devs aren't afraid to implement challenging monsters in the dungeon that require practice and encourage team play. It goes a long way to prevent the PvE from becoming a slog, like it quickly does in Hunt: Showdown. The goal should be for the PvE to be just as engaging and rewarding as the PvP, and Dark and Darker does that pretty well.

Last playtest i was a longsword main and jesus christ, u can like "counter attack" with the defend button and pressing right click after a success block, but i've bought like 10 GOD spears full dmg but didn't use one since when i was about to use one spear i got a GOD Halberd on valentine, it had strength + true dmg + physychal dmg + all stats 2, and holy... Halberd is by far the best weapon, no one knows how to play against and i've been literally wiping lobby after lobby on high roller, and the good thing is: Only fighter can use it. (it is good because the price drops since Spear can be also used for ranger class and its hard to get spear, soo the price went up since 2 classes want it, but halberd only one class use { fighter } and there's not many people using, i got a unique for like 600G with pretty good stats)

i bet you will not do this because "that will not work" but trust me bro run 3 clerics all running judgement and smite then all judgement a barb or fighter and they are insta dead then use your smite to beat the others with default weapons (you could run naked so the people think you wont stand a chance then boom all 3 dead to 3 naked clerics) its soooo funny you have to make a video on that before the play test ends
Hey that's a fun idea! I've seen how powerful judgement can be and I'm sure it would work. Probably won't get a chance to do that this playtest but I have been playing more with the ranger and cleric. I'll keep that one in mind for next time around.
@@kballsforever they extended it to the 16th which im super happy about so maybe you can show them that they need to nerf cleric but you are a content creator and you want to enjoy the playtest so if you dont get around its all good
@@crimsonthecurious488 I've already planted the idea with the fellas and we will probably try this tbh. Anyone who's actually been hit by judgement knows how deadly it is, and I can only imagine three judgements sending someone straight back to the menu 😂

The spear with a ranger is op if they don’t change it it will be insane to use in the full release, trapping some one then spearing them in the head or triple head shot is too good

Cleric needs a little forgiveness. When I get to play fighter I have WAY more fun.
