Streetwise Friphone is illegal in most states, unless you have a CCL. It is an "electric weapon". Note that the video never actually shows how the stun function works, so there are concerns about what kind of contact you have with the attacker for effective use. The sonic deterrent is of limited value, unless you are wearing ear protection all the time. Otherwise, it's going to work on you just as well.
The SOG OTF qualifies as an "auto-open" knife, which is (surprisingly) legal in most states *depending on blade length*. For example, in California, this would be legal only if the blade is smaller than 2 inches. Again, as a self-defense weapon, this would require a high degree of competency, along with a willingness to engage in very bloody, very close range combat.
My self-defense option cost around $600.00 USD, and I'd put far more faith in its stopping abilities than any of these gadgets. No need to fold or unfold, or hope the pepper ball breaks and then hope the attacker isn't a spicy foodie. It is a tad loud, though. As for the knives, that's asking to die. If you don't have training, you better practice all the time, because if your assailant has more practice than you, you'll be chopped up like stew meat. While the knuckle-duster knife looks neat, brass knuckle-type weapons are very tightly regulated, maybe moreso than a firearm. Which brings me to the items that look like guns. They, like most of the other stuff, will likely just turn a mugging into a murder. Dart gun? Really? Now you've really pissed the attacker off. so what's your backup plan? Hope you can run. Fast. That gel spray thing, well, don't know the makeup of the gel, so I can't really comment, but from some reports I've read a motivated attacker can power through that sort of pain long enough to end you, and with only 2 shots, best not miss. The bolo and the club/alarm/glass breaker are really the only two that seem effective to me. That bolo is badass, no doubt about it, and a good, short club can go a long way _if_ you have it on you, and know how to use it.
I agree with you. These devices requires you to hope you’re in a movie like scenario to use. A trusty pistol that doesn’t require you to unfold or do anything other than point and shoot is too much work. 16+1 doesn’t require you to try to intimidate or make a fake phone call. Add a red dot and adequate training and you’ll be fine in most scenarios.
if you decide to edit your list of problems with some of these items at some point... the bolawrap, while on this video, isn't available for civilian purchase currently... sooo kinda hard to get one of those
The Pepperball gun qualifies as a "chemical weapon" and is regulated like pepper spray -- which is illegal in many states. Even where it is legal, how you carry it matters. That said, it is effective, but my understanding is that it's actually better to target not the attacker, but a wall or structure near them -- such as the ceiling, if you're under one -- that will increase the odds of deployment. The point is to have the chemical engulf the assailant's eyes and nose/mouth. Hitting the attacker with the ball is pointless unless the payload deploys.
Most of these devices are illegal to use and even own in the United States, before purchasing make sure you check with your federal state and local laws!
Lol no they're not. Some states like California, New York or Illinois maybe, but certainly not everywhere. I can legally purchase and own everything on this list without a permit or license, except for the bolawrap. That is currently not available for civilian purchase.
@@ryanverkamp6637 & @CJ Jones I'm in AZ (super red state) and I should note that most of these are legal to own except the SOG knife which may require a permit (classifies as a switch-blade "single hand automated action") but most are NOT legal to *Carry*. This is due to state and local ordinances. For instance camp knives (bowies) are strictly prohibited from being *carried* within city limits for PHX, but you can own them all day long. but then again it's easier to get a permit to conceal carry a gun than to carry a tire thumper around these parts... -_-;

Nope you are confusing spring deployed blades mechanical switch blades with this blade which is manually deployed. One is illegal and the other perfectly legal (depends on your area as certain places laws may vary)
The Double Bladed Pocket knife -- which is ridiculous, given its size -- is illegal in most states for common carry. Anyone competent enough with hand-to-hand combat with knives won't look at this thing without sneering. The fact that it takes two hands to deploy makes it useless in situations where you'd most need it.
The Paraclaw is illegal in most US states, as it will qualify as a concealed weapon. Use of it will result (in most states) in a felony weapon charge that will likely carry a tougher sentence than your attacker will get.

Where can I buy the showerhead shown in your UA-cam video?
The keychain is useless. It's worse than useless, actually, because it gives you the idea that it will work. None of the "scenarios" you saw in this video will happen in a live incident. The attacker will not be dissuaded in the slightest by getting poked with a piece of plastic by a victim that will almost always be smaller, weaker, and poorly trained.
