Having had to clean both the men’s & women’s rooms while working at various restaurants & bars, I must say that yes: men’s rooms can get a little messy. Some errant urine here, a few scraps of toilet paper there.
The women’s rooms *would* be slightly tidier... but only like 40-50% of the time. When they’re bad, though, it goes straight from semi-acceptable, First Apartment After College messy, straight to Goddamn Biohazard Ebola Containment Zone D:

I've worked as a janitor for a few months on the NJ turnpike.
Men's rooms smell worse, but women's rooms ARE worse... because of the presence of blood.
A bunch of bloody tampons in some regular-ass metal boxes, on the floor or in the toilet, some blood on the seat.... and when one woman sees that, it cascades downhill. The next lady hovers, spraying piss everywhere, OR builds a nest out of toilet paper.
The piss sprayed everywhere is mechanically fine, as a quick wipedown and mop-up takes care of it all. The nest is worse, because there's always that retarded woman who has to use 20 lbs of paper for her nest, then tries to flush it all.
Now there's an unusable stall, bloody tampons, water all over the floor, and more women are gonna come in and piss/bleed all over everything with even less discretion.
Men's room? Worst i'd ever seen there and not the women's room was ONE case of somebody shitting their underwear and leaving them under the toilet.

The next time someone starts going on about "Western Civilization", remember that Europe, particularly the capitalist hellscape of London, had major sewage problems resulting in epidemics of cholera while the swarthy Indian folk in Mohenjo Daro had actual septic systems and city planning that blew ours out of the water *literally thousands of years before Homer was born*

Eh I don't think you can really apply our modern conception of what it means to be "transgender" specifically (or any expression of sexuality or gender identity as we understand it today) to a culture so far removed from our own, I think more so people like Elagabalus just prove that the rigidity of such norms as we knew them for much of modern history in "the West" are relatively distinct in the scope of the history of the world. It's very plausible though that the same basic biological truths that motivate trans people to transition today also motivated gender non-comforming people of the past, like Elagabalus and like the Hijra of India, the Mahu of Hawaii and the many other examples of people of a "third gender" that were present in countless cultures before they were introduced to a very specific brand of Western Christianity that forbade all such expression.

I really appreciate how this woman's very sane and reasonable plan is every time you go to take a piss you've got to weigh the odds as to whether there might be another woman in the room who feels like calling the cops. Whether you can wiz without being arrested for pee pee crimes essentially depends on how benevolent Madeline here feels that day.
I mean it does sound like the kind of plan a white woman going for power lunches in posh restaurants with her bestie's toddler would come up with. Really similar to that other very sane and reasonable plan about being black and existing outside, and sometimes inside.

It’s almost like there is a problem with sexual harassment in this country that makes women constantly fearful of men. If only there was some social or political movement that wanted to break down these hang-ups and solve these issues so that people can interact with less fear and society can work more cohesively.
Like, we could call them “socialists” or something since they want to make it easier to be social.

The French have been doing this for ages. Not from some activism or such, but from necessity. In tightly packed cities space is at a premium, and in many cases you simply can't put two separate bathrooms with their separate sets of sinks and aisles and so on in a cramped old building. Thus, I don't get this thing about them being wasteful or inconvenient. I believe a common complaint is that ladies' is overfilled while men's is empty (apparently ladies need more time) Sharing all facilities would allow more efficient usage of them (to the detriment of men). Apparently the debate is ideologically charged. If, however one considers merely practical aspects, it makes good sense. The fact that men and women share the facilities (and often ladies pass men using the urinal on their way to the stalls) does not generate the type of problems that the conservatives are imagining.

The hot British chick is right about the debate over whether Jesus peed and pooed, but it's Muslims who debate the topic not Christians.
The Christian consensus is that although Jesus was God Jesus was also human, therefore he did pee and poo. So they don't spend a lot of time on the topic.
Muslims use the topic as a common debate prompt saying Jesus couldn't have been God because he peed and pooed, and God does not pee and poo.

They should know the feeling is mutual. ANY time I go to the bathroom in public it's a "risk assessment". How passing am I today? Where am I? Is it safe? Do the people appear to be safe? Can I hold it? Or at the sinks I have the same fucking thoughts, is this lady going to attack me? Like fuck, I just want to pee, wash my hands and check my makeup and gtfo like everyone else.
I can't tell you how many times I went into an empty bathroom and then someone came in while I was in the stall, and out of fear I stayed in my stall until they left. I hate this stupid society

It's interesting this bathroom debate. Considering almost all large scale buildings built in Europe between the 1960s and 1980 had non-gendered restrooms. In that they're individual rooms with their own toilet not stalls and either have their own sinks in the rooms or have a shared handwashing facility in am open hallway observable by reception. Most old public civic buildings and schools are like this. It's almost as if the evolution of design has produced the correct solution; closed non-genered stalls and open highly visible hand washing areas.

It's a fact that girls need a female only space for strategising and workshopping ongoing conversations and interactions in mixed social settings such as pubs and clubs where they can talk about the men and how the flirting is or isn't going without having to worry about the men overhearing them. So if public settings all get co-ed public toilets instead of segregated public toilets, what will happen is that another kind of room will get invented specifically for urgent women only conversation. Which is fine.

I for one also like the idea of segregating bathrooms by piss or shit, but its not needed.

It seems as though the first "gender-neutral" room in the story was a one-person-at-a-time room common throughout the world!
The boys were being boys, too spacy to lock the door, not naughty at all. They might have been surprised and sought to break in on her as she did on them. Not rational, but these were little boys. Not a nice thing to do, but these were little boys.
Not defending them; I hope someone has a good talk with them.
This writer is the usual right-wing liar.
A straight student who knew I was gay once said to me that I must love men's rooms.
