Being from Memphis TN, I live right down the street from Chuck E Cheese/ Showbiz Pizza Place on Hickory Hill. I miss the location dearly so many fun memories and birthdays spent there.
I remember going to the Showbiz location in Hickory Hill on a school field trip. They actually took the kids back in the kitchen and let us make our own pizzas, and then we got to eat them. Between that, the Putt-Putt on Mt. Moriah, and Libertyland, I'm surprised I didn't get recruited into a skee-ball league.
This is a really good video, I love how you don't speak too fast or too slow and this really educated me on the Memphis Tennessee locations . Keep it up!
I was really happy to see a cec history video on Memphis. I’ve always wondered what the history behind it was I’m only 15 so I didn’t know much about it but I do know my mom has a picture with Chuck from the late 80s early 90s I suppose.
I was there on the day when Hickory Hill Chuck E Cheese was closed, saw alot of the props and the animatronics were in a dumpster I broke down in tears on that day
I wonder if you have any history of the locations in the following areas? 1. St. Louis, MO 2. Seattle Area, WA (Bellevue, Federal Way, Lynnwood and Bremerton) Thank you!
I really enjoyed this video ! can you make a video of Murfreesboro, TN I've went there so many times and im so curious about it , like when did it open did it originally have the studio c beta or another stage ? im so curious .
Fun Fact here in Edmonton Ab. Forgot which location but one of them still has the old 90's Yellow Shirt Chuck, and some old stuff not a lot as they're now changing it just recently actually. But the location my mom took me a lot of the time also has Sonic Championship/The Fighters and how I got into the obscure Sonic Fighting game.
Now do Dallas Texas it has a lot of history 1 Showbiz pizza opens at Dallas Texas 2 Goes Through Concept Unification (fun fact:this was the first location to do the concept unification) 3 Awesome Adventure Machine 4 Studio C Alpha (probably) 5 Dallas Texas Moved! 6 2.0 Remodel
I actually went to the locations a few times when I was younger when visiting family. I don’t have any evidence but I swear on my life I saw some teenagers ripping layers off of the animatronics in one of the locations years ago-
Amazing research! Would it be possible that you might know anything about the history of the Fayetteville, NC location? That’s my local CEC (in fact, it’s unfortunately the only CEC I’ve ever had the chance to visit, but I grew up going to this location for many of my birthdays and my sister’s birthdays so it means a lot to me for nostalgic reasons) and I can’t find anything about their history. The only thing I know is that this location started out as an SPP (or at least that’s what my parents say. They grew up going there in the 80s when it was an SPP.)
Fayetteville opened in August 1983 as a Showbiz Pizza Place. In 1991/1992 they became a Chuck E. Cheese. Then in 1995 they closed and became a different family entertainment center and converted back to the Showbiz Pizza animatronic show. Then in 1998 it became a Chuck E. Cheese again, although with a new animatronic show.
Crazy awesome research that's been put into this video along with the many other CEC and Showbiz location history videos you've made! I'd be interested to know what you know about the Johnson City, Tennessee CEC locations. That's my local CEC, however I don't know too much about it, and the only reliable source I have to learn around it first hand is my mother's recollections from when she was a kid. (For context I'm 15, and am just now really getting into learning about the history of CEC and Showbiz.) What I've come to learn about my local CEC is there was a Showbiz in the 80s on the Bristol Highway in Johnson City, that is now home to a Food Lion. The only source I have for this is from stories my mom, aunt, and grandmother would tell me as we'd pass by, pointing out exactly which building was the Showbiz. My best assumption is the Showbiz converted to a CEC sometime in the late 80s/early 90s and became a phase 3 store. From what I was able to gather, the location on the Bristol Highway closed some time around March 2005, since that is when the location on Peoples Street opened, which is the one I'm most familiar with. What I remember about the store from when I was little was there was phase 3 artwork and signage that I assume was brought over from the location on the Bristol Highway. I vividly remember being terrified of the Warhol Chuck posters, also being terrified of the Chuck E car ride because it had the PTT Chuck in it, which at the time I thought was the scariest thing in the world. I also remember absolutely hating the skytubes because of my chronic fear of heights. Some of the phase 3 decor that was brought over were the wooden beverages sign, wooden salad bar sign, and the wooden men and women's restroom signs. However most of the decor was phase 4. Until 2013(?) there was the standard Avenger Chuck walk around character costume, we never had Hellen or Jasper to the best of my knowledge. Around 2013 was when we got the Rockstar Chuck suit. We had a Studio C Cappa Chuck E bot, that actually functioned quite well and was in pretty good condition from my memories. The exterior of the building was nothing special, very standard phase 4 exterior, however we didn't have the checkered beige and tan building, it was just solid beige. Around 2019 (I think) the sky tubes were removed from our location, and we got a few new attractions and kiddie rides, but nothing notable. However sometime between October 2022 and January 2023 the location was remodeled into a 2.0 location. It looks like every other recent 2.0 location, it's so bland to go into and has zero charm to it at all. The last time I was in there was around early February of this year, and I noticed something when I was going to the bathroom. They still had the phase 3 wooden signs, and the bathroom still looked like a phase 4 bathroom. This could've just been because the entire store may not have been completely remodeled yet, however the store looked like it was completely done. As much as I know about my local location on Peoples Street, there are still so many questions I have unanswered, which is why I turned to people like you to see if you knew anything about either the Peoples Street or Bristol Highway Location. My main question is if the Peoples Street location was ever a phase 3 store, because before the location was remodeled to 2.0, there was the classic wood paneling at the kid check station, that ran all the way from the door to the bathroom that should've been done away with in a brand new phase 4 store. I'd also love to now when the Showbiz originally opened, and when it was converted to a CEC, and then when the CEC on the Bristol Highway shut down officially. Apologies for how long that is, I didn't realize how much I truly knew about my local locations. If you're not able to add to anything or answer any of the questions I have its perfectly fine! I'm just happy there's a community that shares a niche interest with me. I'm absolutely overjoyed to share anything that I know about my location, to hopefully help preserve its history, despite it still being in business to this day. Thank you so much for reading, I greatly appreciate it!
Um could you also do a history video of the chuck e cheese in columbia sc to dedicate the animatronics being removed from that location and cause of the compressor that broke for some reason
I went to chucky cheese since i was a litle kid since i was 5 chucky cheese was basicly my whole Childhood then they closed when i was 7 know im 13 and almost 14 and wont forget chucky cheese
Or was one of the Last… I heard that the date was between November 1992 and January 1993, possibly the latter. But, at least in the South, Memphis was MORE LIKELY THAN NOT, the LAST SPP. the one claim that challenges this, is a claim that Pasadena CA (Los Angeles) made it to March 1993. Whether or Not Memphis was the last SPP to be converted to CEC or not is a debate for another time, but it does ponder the question of whether Memphis was actually the last SPP location to be converted or whether the last conversion was Pasadena.

What happened to just slappin' in quarters to beat the game? Most of 'em weren't even worth playin' but the purpose that was constant pushed me was to go have "fun" go play "video games"... I was like... these... these aren't video games! WTF is this?! It looks like Dig-Dug and Donkey Kong combined into some knock-up that should've been aborted but it was just too late... ... ... ... Needless to say, I wasn't brought to many of these franchise events cuz I would alway speak my truth about WTF is this? Oh, right sorry... I'll... I'll go ahead and hit play now...

Fun fact: sonic championship is also known under the name "sonic the fighters" in most releases!
I grew up with the Austin Peay Showbiz. I don’t recall the Uncle Klunk/Santa on stage right, but it did have the Statue of Liberty for a bit in 1986.
