This love story mirrors my experience 15 years ago. My little rescue dog who was about 1 year old when she came to live with me wanted nothing to do with other dogs. I got her a kitten and they were best friends for 14 years. My little dog died last year from congestive heart failure. All the meds she took the last few years of her life no longer helped her. Her cat that she grew up with has suffered the loss of our dog as much as me. She kept looking for our dog and crying for her. We will always love and very much miss our little dog. Cherish the time you have with your precious kitty and dog. Their love for each other is very real.
So sorry for your loss. Yes it does hit the other partner very hard. Animals mourn just as much as people do, give your cat extra love and attention. 😍❤💖💞

I have a super clingy Maltese too! Mine also prefers cats over dogs, but he fights violently with other dogs, so socializing like that is almost completely impossible. He plays with the cars at home, and walks with me, protecting me from full grown men (another thing he doesn’t like at all) and dogs. I love my baby boy! He’s my everything. Maybe all Maltese are just an anxious and sensitive breed? I wish my Poochy and I could eventually reach a point like the conclusion of this video. But I’m so happy for almond and maliashka!!! Warms my heart and soul with it’s purity ♥️✨
Stunning to see the change in her confidence interacting with other dogs - wow!! 😳 Amazing to see what a difference her friendship with Almond's made... I love the wonderful relationships that can develop between different animal species, they definitely seem to get something out of it that they don't quite get from just living with & loving humans?
Cats have such a calming effect on others. A great cat can help lower the blood pressure and anxiety and is a wonderful companion. I have two great cats who make my life so wonderful and full of love.
My sister who was unable to walk for the rest of her life had a cat who always chill with her the cat was her teddy bear whenever she sleeps and its lovely
Malishka could have felt overwhelm by the number of dogs in the park and even being at the park with all the noises and smells, it's like my dog. 1 or 2 dogs she'll play with but too many makes her shy. When almond came around, malishka met her with it being only them and their parents in the room and at the safety of the house. This made for a much more relaxing environment for malishka and of course she played.
You are assuming the one clip shown in the video of her introducing her to other dogs is the only type of situation she has been in. Some dogs genuinely don’t like the attention from other dogs.
Singing Crow - i agree, the relaxing environment (safety of the house), and being one on one, probably helped quite a bit. it did not hurt that the kitty was small and unagressive either.
I couldn't help wincing when you talked about your dog's crate = puppy prison. So if I may offer a PSA here: It's true that a crate can be useful for constraining a dog--for example, when a repairman enters your home and your dog is not happy about it. Or if you are housebreaking a puppy and need to crate him for a _short_ time while you run to the store. But a dog should also look at his crate as a safe place to sleep or to get away from it all. In general, I always left my dog's crate door open. I highly recommend you do this too, if you are not already. I would often put snacks inside the crate. (But I didn't have to worry about a cat taking the snack, either.) Maybe a favorite toy. Even play with my dog by throwing a ball or bully stick into the crate and letting him fetch it. So my dog did not associate his crate with only bad things. Sometimes, when my dog had had enough of everyone, he'd nestle down inside his crate (since the door was open). At various times, the crate had a faux shearling pad, a thick towel, or a soft blanket to lie on. BTW, my dog had a dog bed that he loved. Plus the sofa. I guess he saw the crate as more of a den he could retreat to. My dog's preferred crate was hard plastic with a wire door, but we also had one like you had. For that one--located in a different room--I discovered that he used it more when I draped some towels over a couple of the sides. I guess that gave it a bit more den-like feeling?
THIS is my dog. Was not well socialized and attacked by his own pack so he's scared of all other dogs. I got him when he was 2. 2 months ago I rescued a senior cat and it's had a marked improvement on my doggo. Not on par with this but better than I'd hoped. They are still a work in progress.. the cats adopted the dog ... I'm still waiting for cat to adopt me.
@@SomeOne-vf1rs Thank you. Mr. Cat was diagnosed with kidney failure. We may not have the time to see it to a complete fruition but we'll make the best of what we got and for as long as we can.
my dog has cat siblings too, and I find it so funny the way he picks up on cat habits. he started sitting on chairs, even once at the vet like he was about to tell him what the issue was. and recently he started rubbing on me like a cat as well. my cats, on the other hand, really learned to take their cues from him, and they always pay attention to his bark - they always know when he's barking just because, or when there's a serious threat, and they trust him to be the judge of that
Since dogs have been living with humans for a long time, they are said to be able to read our emotions. Many dog owners may have some idea of what they are feeling, such as going to the side of someone who is sad and comforting them with a lick, or wagging their tails vigorously when they are happy. Dogs have excellent senses and cognitive abilities, and can distinguish the slightest sounds of breathing, heartbeats, and tone of voice, and respond to human emotions
Am I the only one that went "DON'T USE THE CREAT AS A PUNISHMENT YOU BAKA!" Yes the dog and cat are cute, their friendship is sweet and thankyou for adopting a kitty that needed a home but never ever use the crate as a punishment
That's the perfect solution. I'm so proud of you for finding a companion for your little dog because they do get so lonely when they're alone. And I'm so proud of you for adopting that kitten. Such a good person.
I hope this message reaches the owner of the dog I am so happy that your dog has a playmate and is being able to socialize, I'm a dog trainer, I'm only going to give you one tip based on the video that I saw don't use the create as a form of punishment the crate should be only used to reinforce positive behavior because when you leave the house if you're putting the dog in the crate the dog might mistake that as a punishment instead of viewing the crate as a positive and safe space for him to relax and sleep in. The golden rule is never use the crate as a form of punishment! You need to condition the dog to like the crate and view it as their own personal safe space. No more doggy prison, that never works. Good luck 👍
@@LeonieJMerry That's awesome 👍 sounds like you did a great job introducing and accustoming your dog to the crate. If you use a crate that's how it should be.
My late dog and late cat became buddies after a bad start. My late cat was my late dog's free babysitter and brother and when my dog passed away my cat became depressed. So I helped him and he helped me until he passed 2 years later at 19 years old on my lap. Your dog and cat kids are beautiful. May they both have a long life together filled with play and adventure and cuddles.
Amazing how adding a kitten to their family made everyone, especially the little dog, so much happier. Everyone needs a friend to play with and help them feel safe and happy. 😊
She's so cute. Probably because she's overwhelmed with so many dogs. What you could do is find a dog her size a female who would not intimidate her and then make playdates with another person and their dog. It would help the other dog when you might gain a new friend out of it.
Actually, a dog of the opposite sex is better. Females to females tend to become aggressive, as the female is always the top dog. But, she has come leaps and bounds since socialising with the cat. What a great story. 🐕🐶🥰
