My favorite of Burgess Meredith's four appearances, thanks to the sheer strength and firmness of his performance. Combined with the timeless message and one of the greatest ironic endings in the series, this makes for one of my favorite episodes of the whole show.
Sterling hated totalitarianism in any form as a number of TZ episodes address it. Love Fritz Weaver as the chancellor. He was one of those actors who excelled in bad guy roles or sympathetic roles like in ‘third from the sun.’
Livingston, I'm looking forward to your upcoming Season 2 recap! All the time and effort you put into these commentaries every week is greatly appreciated. 👏
Definitely one of the best episodes, and my favorite. The rights of man is something we have to hold onto. There was a drama club that did a real good job reenacting this episode.
I grew up in the 70's & 80's, and I saw a handful of episodes as a young child, some as a teen, and most as an adult. This was one of the episodes I probably saw when I was younger, but didn't real "click" with me until I saw it as an adult. And this is easily one of the best episodes, as it became so much more as I became more through living out life(obsolete indeed).
actually it looks like what in the 50's and 60's thought Soviet society looked like. It was kind of accurate the clothing worn by "Chorus" who surround the soon to be dead chancellor is what really in the soviet union actually dressed like. If you guys remember, Fritz Weaver was in the 1st season episode "third from the sun".
I don't know if any of your top five episodes from season two are going to coincide with mine but my top five favorite episodes from season two in no particular order are "The Rip Van Winkle Caper," "The Silence," "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?" "The Obsolete Man" and "The Howling Man."
The one kinda prescient note in this episode was re LIBRARIES. Essentially, ironically, it turned out that WE, the public, and not the government, helped make libraries obsolete along with librarians.
I think you'll enjoy Season 3 more than Season 2; the episodes have an overall grittier tone similar to Season 1. But good job with Season 2, I enjoyed it!
Never ever liked this episode. I mean beautifully shot and well-acted, but the idea is sooooo didactic, like someone in junior high school deciding who has just latched onto being a serious thinker with a message no one has ever thought of before: Tyranny is BAD. Tyrants can make your become a non-person/be killed...and then someone can come along and depose the tyrant himself. I know this was well intentioned, but, this is , to me, just a pumped up take on pretty sophomoric material. Kudos to the director and actors (and cinematographer for trying to make it better than the story itself. One of the few TZ episodes that i actively avoid. Thanks for your video regardless.
Hands Down My Favorite episode. I was looking forward to this review. I'm enjoying this so much. Keep up the good work.

this episode is stupid - there is no timeless message
@@wuxin5847 seriously, you don't get the message of "totalitarianism is inherently weak and people just need to stand up to it"?
Burgess Meredith never disappoints, second favorite episode after the book/glasses ep.
"Time Enough At Last" is an awesome episode!!

Always been a Fritz Weaver fan, and I loved his 2 appearances in TZ. 2 totally different performances, both fantastic.
One of my favorite episodes.
Love how Romney Wordsworth set the Chancellor up to not only beg for mercy but invoke the name of God, whom the State vehemently said does not exist

Another Burgess Meredith episode involving books. And libraries.

9:09: "I think it's gonna blow up in your face." Almost. But he received his comeuppance nonetheless.
