Hi, all. To those confused about why I said "second touch" for Messi's first touch, this video is a clip from my other video called the "Three Touches That Broke Football" where I basically described 3 touches in the World Cup that changed football. So yes, Messi's first touch was his first touch, just to clear any confusion.
It seems so simple when watching but when you actually try it is so hard because of the amount of small details that it needs to be perfect like the first touch
Not only it requires exceptional skill and brain power to calculate and execute your moves in fractions of a second, but you also have to be able to run like 7 miles a game and know when to conserve energy, one of messi greatest skills

Ask any argentinian, we all knew we were going to be champions 1 year before the world cup, we could feel it, even after losing with Arabia. I was living in another city and moved to Buenos Aires in November just to be in the celebrations.
I would say, this is the most important goal of Messi's entire career.. this turned the team's total pressure to pure confidence and eventually lead to win the world.. every thing started the moment that ball went back of the net
Good describe👍 i think the same. after they beat Croatia in the semi-final i looking back watch all highlight and realized immediately. That Messi's goal vs Mexico literally give Argentina the world cup...
This goal had me and my mate screaming. After the shock from saudi and the quiet 1st half, the suspense had us on the edge of our seat. When he took the 1st touch, all I said was 1 thing: Messi... and then it was silence as we saw the ball drift perfectly to the corner. And the rest was history - screaming and shouting with ecstasy and pure joy. 'Only football can make you feel like this' and only Lionel Messi can give this feeling, this emotion so so often. I Thank the Lord God that he gave me the blessing to be able to watch the Greatness of his creation - The greatest Footballer Of All Time.
exactly, the tension after the defeat and the lack of goals in this match was intense, the team felt tense, everyone had the same vibe, i feel this particular goal was such a key and underrated moment, it literally saved us from elimination and it unlocked the confidence in everyone, it was as defining of the WC victory as that last deciding penalty shot against france
Football gave you this emotion but only Lionel Messi gave you this feeling, very well said as i never feel this much affection towards players or clubs more than Leo
American football gives same or better or similar feelings, basketball, boxing, just gotta get out the box and stop limiting yourself to watching one sport. Once you do that you won't be expressing yourself like you just did.
Need to add that Guillermo Ochoa has been the most consistently solid goalkeeper in the past 3 World Cups. He does not make elementary mistakes, it has to be either a complete defensive failure or something special to get past him.

I was in Aspen just checking into the hotel room in the lobby when I hear a televised Argentina Mexico game near by with bunch of guests on couches enjoying the game. In that very moment, something took me away from the check in counter and I went to the tv screen when messi delivers this beauty into the net. I screamed so loud, the entire hotel heard it. My yelling hyped up a little girl, must have been 7-8 years old to celebrate with me, and then the entire lobby followed. The floor manager lady was from Argentina and we kept high five-ing her and she was ecstatic. It was a joyous moment.

Bruh, i lost it when this goal was scored. I went bamboozle in front of the tv. My whole neighborhood probably heard me. But i couldn’t stop. After the defeat against Saudi, the horrible first half and the thought of this being Messi’s last WC and the thought of him losing 3 finals with Argentina, that goal felt like something else. And the beauty of it and the commentator’s scream made this one of the most epic moment in world history. Only football can make you feel this way. Only Messi.
The last 3 World Cups in the group zone were difficult. In 2014, Argentina ultimately won the first two games with completely closed teams. With IMPOSSIBLE goals against Bosnia and Iran in both games. 2018: We tied with Iceland 1-1 in the first game, Croatia beat us in the second. And the final match Messi scored one of the best goals of his career against Nigeria, in my opinion a goal in the top 5, because it demonstrates all his superior category and technique.
He is the god of the game. He so effortlessly scored such a precise and magical goal at a time when Argentina was on the brink of a WC exit. A do or die match, and this guy decides it in a split second. That is greatness
I am from Argentina. I started kicking a ball as soon as I started walking. I started playing competitive football since I was 5 years old.. You really need to play the sport, or at least try it, to really understand how freaken hard it is to do what Messi does.. I would say impossible for a human being, of course, Messi is not from this planet

The context of the goal is amazing too. They just came off of a loss to Saudi Arabia and had played an entire scoreless half. I was in argentina visiting when this goal was made and believe me, the relief in the streets was palpable.
This shot has just 0.02 xG. At the time a lot of people didn't find it nearly as impressive as some other shots like Richarlison's trick shot because it doesn't look flashy. Truth is Messi basically created a goal out of nothing, and it's arguably the turning point for Argentina after they lost to Saudi and had few chances against Mexico in 60min.
That insane accuracy is one of many reasons why he is the greatest of all time. The fact that these insanely accurate shootings and passing is a regular thing for him while for others it's few times in their lif time is just something else. Messi is literally the Einstein of football
I am a hardcore Messi lover but to be frank, I am pretty sure Messi or none else think in that sophisticated way to score a goal.. he is talented enough to score on the leftmost or right most end of the goal post.. that's all he did.. few other world class players also can do it.. the video makes it look like it's a feat that's impossible wen this is the way everyone dreams to score.. shoot on either on the right most or left most end (either near to the ground or on the top most point).. PS: also note that the process of shooting for a goal becomes the most difficult, even to elite players also, if they are in an extreme angle with the post, like on the corner points of the ground, because now keeper need not be on the center of the post, as it is difficult to shoot on the farthest end of the post since it should be a powerless spin shot for getting the curve(needless to say, the nearest end of the post for the player would be directly protected by the goal keeper by standing near to that expecting a thundering shot towards that end of the post).. for example think about directly tryin to score in a corner kick..
Well his analysis is great but that's not how the game actually goes. And there was several different ways he could score so its not limited to just story tome and space. Also when a player makes a touch its never perfect and the 0layer is not calculating in his head some random equation. Simply control the ball and shoot the ball as fast and accurate to where you want it to go as possible. It may or may not go in as if Herbert slid in that shot would've had been blocked. Also an intelligent player would choose that side as when a player goes to block a shot they open their legs to get as big as possible which means through anticipation it may go through their legs Also giving yhe goalkeeper less time to react due to poor visual. I can touch a lot of other ways he could score given messi technicality but yhats too much words. Note that no coach sit and go through numbers as nothing can be further from fact so your calculations are incorrect. All a footballer thinks when getting that ball is control and shoot as quickly as possibly at my intended target. I play football and not do maths. I'm good at maths but any one who thinks that some nerd can just calculate how much power to put in a ball to kick it at a certain distance and speed is just stupid. I can be strong and kick a ball with all my strength and still get beaten by some weak footballer. There are things called techniques which help so playing football is not maths.
@@jithinmathews1589agreed.. was just typing a long thingy that said some of yhese things too. Messi intended to shoot so he controlled the ball as shoot as quickly as possible. As a player my self at times upon receiving a pass you already know what you want to do with it.

It took me more than a third of watching this video to realize that was Ochoa as Mexicos GOAT goalie! I love him, but damn, Messi zooted passed them all! Unbelievable tacticians! Great game! Great commentary! Great analysis! I appreciate you're work!
If you see the goal of Messi against Australia, sure you can note in slow motion that he made at least three steps looking for a best angle to shoot the ball. If you see it in normal motion those steps apears to be one. All this movements are before in Leo's mind. It's out of this wold!
Man i watched this goal over and over and I just knew it was so special. All along the carpet with power. Had to be perfect from the distance. One of the greatest goals in worldcup history.
Not only pinpoint accuracy and a mathematician he constantly scans before receiving the ball. He has a spatial awareness on the field that is rare. This goal is proof of that.
At this point there's no doubt that messi is a genius and perfectionist in what he does. I have been a great admirer of Ronaldo since he made me fall in love with this game showboating as a teenager was fun but now i have immense respect for messi as well. Though i get inspiration from cr7 but that doesn't stop me from being Messi fan as well
Why do you say Messi’s “2nd” touch at the beginning of the video? That is clearly his FIRST touch - and shows how amazing he is. That first touch controlled a pretty stout pass, put it in perfect position for his shot while precisely out of reach of defender, and done while already in motion positioning his body to unleash the shot, where he gets so much power so quickly with very little backswing. Beyond perfect. But he only touches it twice.
Also his goal vs Milan im Champions league was outstanding. He does not have enough space honestly. Chance the ball got block i would say 100% got blocked. But, i was shocked the ball get thru.
That goal vs Milan, when he took the first touch from xavi's pass, he let the ball bounce up so he can aim top corner without having to put much power. Such decision making in those split seconds, not many people will notice and they will just see it as "he shot well". This guy's football instinct is miles above top players.
@@GOATIGER87That goal was an unbelievable work of genius and it's sad how many casuals who can't even make a single pass would brush that off as just a "good shot".
Argentinian here, even though I think Messi is the best player of all time and I love him, there was a lot of luck involved in that goal (the typical luck that is needed in such extraordinary goals, combined with skill) all the things you point out in this video could have made this not be a goal, and I think Messi knew at that moment how lucky he was to make that attempt and end up in the net, you can see it after the celebration, how he thanks heaven for that unique moment
He's 5'7". He has no business playing professional football, much less as a forward. And yet he does, beautifully so, and outplays them all, even in the twilight of his career. Kylian Mbappe, a legend in the making, had Cristiano as his idol, and grew up idolising him, a legend and contemporary of Leo. And now, at the age of 23, nearing his prime, he was outclassed, by a 36 yr old La Pulga with slower legs and waning reflexes. That is the GOAT. 13 years ago, when Leo was 23, he was winning the Ballon d'or, as Cristiano sat in the audience. Now, 13 years later, Mbappe is 23, and he will sit in the audience and watch Leo win his 8th Ballon d'or. Leo scored 91 Goals in a calendar year. People say that's easy, he had Xavi and Iniesta with him. They also forget that that year he had more assists than either of them. He is a Genius playmaker, and scores goals which he should logically have no business doing, and he is so good that he has outscored designated strikers by a country mile, all the while working his magic in the midfield, raking up beautiful assists and long balls, passes. And still, he never dives, never complains, no cheat. He just plays for the fun of it. And he is a great leader, leads by example. Tends to his brethren. He has rendered himself, the greatest of all time.
I like this video, very factual, very interesting, and shows an interesting insight on the magic of the goal. Good vid, I'll watch more if they're like this
@@OvO_MJ good one mate you go ask Messi if maths had anything to do with the shot. It didn’t it’s pure instinct and skill. To claim it’s some insanely difficult shot is just false. But sure go ahead and continue using retarded fallacies in your arguments
One of many of his genius moments. Dudes IQ of the game on the field is above everyone. I know he plays FIFA quite a lot but damn he actually plays like he's watching it from birds eye view.
And messi probably doesn't even thinks about it like this, he just goes "oh ball coming for messi, messi recieve ball, messi shoot ball ooou messi score goal😄🐐"
This is an explanation from someone who never played the game for stat nerds who never played the game. This goal is beautiful but not a great achievement in terms of difficulty. When you play the game you already know what you are going to do with the ball before you receive it. Messi is the fastest footwork player on the planet so for him it's just the 50% chance to hit the goal or the defender. He has scored at least 10 goals for Barcelona this exact same way, and every respectable football player could score like this ( at least 3 times out of 10 ) because he was unmarked in that position.
Thanks a lot for this analysis! Just one suggestion if I may. Most of us don’t use yards, so if you could also add meters when talking about distances it would be more inclusive 😉 thanks 🙏
I am a huge Messi fan but the math here is misleading. the angle is not as small as 1.25°. It neglects two things in physis, time and 3 dimension. For it to be 1.25° , Ochoa has to be quick enough to dive right when the ball travels past him, have enough force to deflect ball's trajectory (that's why so many goals score even when goalie got a hand on it). Second the allowable angle should be 3D. Sorry. An engineer's nerd rant is over.🤣
México was doing a great defence, but at the first time they gave a bit of space to Messi he delivered, but also was almost a miracle, thank you to who made the video to show us how spectacular this goal was
Why are we acting like Messi is the only player that has done this ever? Such goals happen quite frequently in top leagues. I know Messi's the GOAT but the glazing on this one is too much.
He's literally a god man the way he plays with these delicate numbers, anything can go haywire but it always goes right and you're at comfort whenever he has the ball. My goat
When it's Messi who did it, aside of that it's highly enjoyable, sometime it seems like it's normal or even an easy thing to do for him or for any other footballers. Until you learn, analyze and compare it. Then we understand better why he is the GOAT. Excellent video! thank you.

Also the assist pass for Molina in the match against Netherlands, it got through the legs of Ake. Just show how clinical messi was in the tournament.
Exactly my comment! It’s even better than the poster thinks
Yeah exactly. I didn’t know what 3rd touch act supposed to mean
@@GOATIGER87That goal was an unbelievable work of genius and it's sad how many casuals who can't even make a single pass would brush that off as just a "good shot".
i respect both goats but reasons like this are why im a Messi fan.
Edit: CALM DOWN. I put Ronaldo at SECOND place for the impact he had on football.
Same
There is only one that is messi
@@pavansainarasimha6741 respect Ronaldo, he has done so much in his career
@@matsu4724he has all our respect buddy.. But there is only one GOAT and that's Messi
@@calvinjoshua4621 fair, I would say Ronaldo 2nd best player
Argentinian here, even though I think Messi is the best player of all time and I love him, there was a lot of luck involved in that goal (the typical luck that is needed in such extraordinary goals, combined with skill) all the things you point out in this video could have made this not be a goal, and I think Messi knew at that moment how lucky he was to make that attempt and end up in the net, you can see it after the celebration, how he thanks heaven for that unique moment
This video with 600 views is so underrated. I have no doubt this video will have millions of views in the future

I think we all knew already but seeing this truly shows how hard this is
The GOAT Lionel Messi just shot a similar goal for Inter Miami CF, much further than that in fact. ⚽🐐💙🇦🇷
Good vid, I'll watch more if they're like this
Not really you can’t use calculations like this to explain stuff that happens in a moment of football This video is just very weird and pointless
@@AlphoricYou’re probably not smart enough to even understand what he’s saying
Such precision was fundamental to beat the fantastic Mexican goalkeeper.
One of the greats! Him and Cristiano will forever be on the top
Messi deserves a another ballon d'or for this goal❤
Same as his recent goal against Philadelphia in 2023 league cup, from 30 yards.
ONE OF THE GREATEST [IF NOT THE BEST ] ANALYTICAL VIDEOS I HAVE EVER SEEN ON FOOTBALL. LET ALONE MESSI.
THANKS MAN.
The one Messi goal that made me scream more than ever and than any other Messi goal.
What an incredible goal under unbelievable pressure, only goat can do. ❤Messi
“That’s what they came fooor !”. Classic. Still, Messi’s most technically difficult goal is his masterpiece in 2018 against Nigeria, assist by Banega.
This was so excellent 💯 Thank you ✊🏼 & God bless! ♾️
It is the most important goal for Argentina in WC 2022
This is exactly why Messi and Ronaldo are the GOATS 🐐🐐🇦🇷🇵🇹
Un histórico de Leo Messi 👏👏💪🇦🇷
Amazing editing btw. Crisp and clear to the point.
It was predestined that he will lift the world cup ❤
Greatest ever I grew old watching his come up and then the rise to the top finally establishing himself as the Best in history
I am glad you made this video. I too believe that is a hell of a technical goal and done perfectly with zero margin of error.
and ronaldo fans still say wc was rigged and messi paid fifa
How he was able to keep it rolling on the ground like putting a golf ball is what impresses me the most.
PLEASE make more of these this is just brilliant
The Greatest Ever 👑🐐
SUPERHUMAN 👽 LEO
This was my fav goal of the tournament. It didn't start Argentina's WC journey, but this goal in some way won the WC for the team. He is God.
Thanks a lot for this analysis! Just one suggestion if I may. Most of us don’t use yards, so if you could also add meters when talking about distances it would be more inclusive 😉 thanks 🙏
YARDS????????? LOL. WTF!!! He surely is american?! Right?!? European countries and South American countries measure it in METERS! ;)
Thanks for such a brilliant analysis. When you are a football fan, your mind explodes of happiness in front of such masterpiece.
Sorry. An engineer's nerd rant is over.🤣
Actual smart counterargument (HOW)
México was doing a great defence, but at the first time they gave a bit of space to Messi he delivered, but also was almost a miracle, thank you to who made the video to show us how spectacular this goal was
The magic man, indeed!
That was truly the most significant goal of the World Cup campaign. An incredible feat of skill by the master.
Pendu fans will say the ball was favouring messi so it went in
I am ronaldo fan and I love messi🙂
That's what they came for.....the magic man. This was the best world cup ever.
I don’t understand, he only took 2 touches 👀 The control, and the shot.

When i saw this goal on live.. i already knew that the shot from messi was perfect, spot on, right on the money. 👏👏👏Don Leo
Wish Ronaldo fans had this iq of football

This goal is the reason argentina got past the group stages

That goal was impossible.
Impossible is nothing infront of 🐐🔥
“And he is Slide Tackling that Ball All the way to Barcelona.” 💀😂 Got Me Cracked Up!
There's a luck factor too
Why are we acting like Messi is the only player that has done this ever? Such goals happen quite frequently in top leagues. I know Messi's the GOAT but the glazing on this one is too much.
No.
He is the genius of football no one comes close
There are and were better

When it's Messi who did it, aside of that it's highly enjoyable, sometime it seems like it's normal or even an easy thing to do for him or for any other footballers. Until you learn, analyze and compare it. Then we understand better why he is the GOAT.
Excellent video! thank you.
Dude this is beautiful, thanks!
Messi is always a second ahead of everyone.
I love vids that break down what goes into Messi’s shots/dribbles
