There is a blurb in the video itself but it's easy to miss so just to clarify: the app is available for android devices as well! ....Thank goodness. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lego.boost.boost
Getting a Johnny 5 vibe off of this. Recently got to try out a demo model and have to say it was a little simplistic but still fun. The app is well designed. I think this does what it sets out to do, introduce kids to robotics and the base concepts of coding (similar to scratch) and act as a bridge to more sophisticated projects (mindstorms/ardruino kits). After the initial investment in the main kit it would be nice to see some additional affordable addons (sensors, motors etc).
He says that only a tablet will work, however, all android phones and ios phone can use it as well. Plus, using bluestacks, you can even get it on your pc.
this looks pretty good to something before i looked at with not much interest. very good review. i would love if over time the back ground boxes became sets that have been reviewed so far. think that could be quite good as i found myself looking at the batman movie cave set and thinking. huh, wonder how this would fair up in a ttv review. its just a small thing but could be a nice small idea. great review overall. look forward to the next one.
My 7 year old came into some good cash via Grandma and Aunties on his birthday and demands to buy this Lego Boost with his windfall. After watching this review I am both very apprehensive at the suggested "learning curve" mentioned by the well versed presentor knowing my son is 7 without experience. It does seem to be a really cool item if its doable for my 7 year old.
This would have been great fun to me when I was ten. When I was a part of First Lego League, I didn't have much of a hand in building our robot because the technic threw me off (despite being a Bionicle fan). This system integration would have been very welcome.
ok i was in a video call with my friend and we was talking about the ninjago movie set and i accidentally said jelly ray bomber and i combined the weird looking set that comes with jay in it that only at Walmart with the manta ray bomber and we both cracked up and i ACCIDENTLY SAID the jelly ray bomber xD TO BAD THAT AINT A THING
Great video - much more informative on the pluses and limitations than most. What did you think of it’s potential as a tool for real coding? And how does it compare to LittleBits? Any plans to do a LittleBits review in future?
While the video quality is better than the Brick Show (personally), the background is distracting. I do appreciate the camera still focus on the model and various of apps/references, but the blurred background is still rather "annoying". Comparing it to BrickVault, the background only appears about 1/10 of the video segment and move the sets into another location.
Did you try using the search bar to find IPad Only. Most games aren't actually for one device, they're just displayed in different sections to make it easier for the user of those devices
I genuinely hate this set. It almost implies that children are stupid. You get no functionality for a crap ton of money. All models are overly basic and uninspired. The vast majority of the parts are for looks instead of functionality, and two of the three motors cant be separated, while the third motor is insanely weak. You also get one sensor.... ONE (you technically get two in one but mostly you will only be using one at a time) This set obviously just wants to be sold and nothing else. If you're kid is young enough to want this set based on looks, you might as well get something else. If your kid is old enough to actually want to get into something like mindstorms, why not get him one of the past mindstorms sets? They are debatably easier to use because you have far more useful parts at your disposal and the programming is essentially the same just with more options. However i guess parents lazy enough to buy their kids an ipad are lazy enough to buy them this set too without a second thought.
What really grinds my gears now is that Lego absolutely has the technology to make a new mindstorms set, *more cheaply* , with all critical components like sensors and motors being much smaller and easier to install, possibly meaning also more and stronger sensors and motors! Also it is pretty dumb that you cant program this set via PC. Im sure the program wouldn't be hard to port, which makes the limitation seem almost artificial and unnecessary. What is my biggest beef with the EV3 is that it actually took a lot of functionality away and replaced with RC, something that power functions does better with parts being much smaller. I don't mind RC, but having it as a core feature of something that should be a "robot" is silly.
The sad thing about "teaching kids to code" like this is that it teaches nothing. Knowing the theory of code isn't even half the battle, not even a quarter of the battle. Knowing how to code is not dragging and dropping blocks of icons or prewritten code - you know no syntax or any of the special characters you need to know. I don't appreciate LEGO BOOST because it teaches nothing.

I love these reviews. Great job as always, Var!
That looks like a hefty amount of dislikes for an informative and thorough review. I must be missing something here.

You can also program the BOOST set on your Mac or PC using Scratch and the Scratch Link!
Could you share a link of a tutorial of how to do this? thanks
You said EVG 3 because you were thinking of Bionicle G3
11:56 Meowthra vs. Frankie the Cat!
this seems like a great miss. why would it be restricted to smart devices and specificly IOS

It also works on a mobile device
HELP ME PLS?! How do you get Vernon's dizzy trigger to work?
Loved the beginning. Lol!
Var is super hot!
Like I don't care at all about the set, my eyes were focused on Var the whole time.
It's the Brickshow...but not complete trash
I downloaded the LEGO boost app in my dads mobile.
Didn't finish the video so maybe this is answered but can you freely control the creation, and not just have it spin around when coding?
