My grandmother lived there and when I was a child I already had felt Sintra magic.
Portugal 🇵🇹 is a beautiful country and still so much to discover but I prefer that way it’s a Gemma in its shell.
Definitely Sintra or a town nearby it would be my first choice to move to Portugal.
I have traveled to many country’s and work in different country’s as well.
I love all of them each one has them own beauty no one can change that but certainly none of them have touch my soul like Portugal.
Everything; the country itself, people, food , wine , landscape, history, weather, the sea beach, the river beach , castles, palaces, monasteries, churches, iconic old buildings,rivers etc. etc.✨🥰❤️🇵🇹

So glad to have found your channel! You have the best tours, in my opinion, showing some areas that a lot of people would have missed out on. Your historical information is invaluable. My husband and I have been catching up on all your videos, and has been a great resource in planning our 5th return trip to Portugal this year. Seeing first hand a lot of places, that we can narrow down to what appeals to us the most. I think Sintra is the one place we keep missing, but will be sure to go there this time. Thanks for posting this! I've long since included the Quinta da Regeleira in my list of places to visit at Sintra. The filming from the garden brings back memories of the Castelo dos Mouros, where I spotted a terrace (between the ticket office and the palace proper) that seemed like the world's most perfect place for enjoying a bica or two while relaxing and basically appreciating being alive, but it seemed to be closed off when I visited the place with my family. I would imagine there are one or two similar places in or around Regeleira. Beyond that, it's dawning on me that there is such a wealth of worthwhile sites in Sintra that it's necessary (or, rather, desirable) to spend a little time there.
Hey Jan-Tore! 😀 I'm not sure if that's the same place, but once on my way to Castelo dos Mouros I too spotted a terrace that looked like some kind of cafe (or maybe just a private property?), but it was closed. I even joked to my friends that it was the perfect place to spend New Year's Eve in.
True, tons of interesting places to see in Sintra (a few of them I bet most non-locals have never heard about), but with the distances involved you'd need a few days to see everything.
Sintra é veramente affascinante e magica...il Castello è bello e inquietante...non saprei dire quale città del Portogallo è là più bella...Portogallo è bellissimo da nord a sud...ogni città con le sue caratteristiche...è un piccolo paese...ma ha um Patrimonio culturale, histórico e Artistico enorme...complimenti ai Portoghese...vivo in Italia, ma mi piacerebbe vivere in Aveiro!!! First, I muse on how I can miss a place I've not yet been and I know it's because of your wonderful videos where you not only share sites and history, but you revisit these places in different circumstances (night time, Christmas, etc), so there's an even deeper knowledge. Thank you!
Second, I was a little embarrassed about loving Sintra because it's a 'touristy' place, but I felt justified when you, a person born in Lisbon, said it's one of your absolute favorite places in Portugal. So thank you for that, too!
Third, thank you for focusing on Quinta da Regaleira and the well, I've wondered about it since you showed a still in your first Sintra video.
Fourth and nearly done: Sintra's town hall very much looks like a Disney building, absolutely!
Finally, a question: do people drink from the public fountains?

Sintra being touristy is a recent event, the last 15-20 years probably. Take Quinta da Regaleira, for exemple, it used to be this secret, unknown place, and now it's probably the number 1 attraction in Sintra (Pena Palace and the Moors' Castle are VERY strong competitors though).
You can drink from most public fountains (the ones you can't will be clearly indicated), and many people do so, although it's more common in small towns/villages, especially in northern Portugal.
Ah, summer... We're having really high temperatures these days in Portugal. 35C / 95F this weekend in Lisbon, up to 41C / 106F in Evora! Happy summer Wendy!

My visit to Sintra took place about 20 years ago. It was part of a tour of Portugal, Spain and Morocco. We spent there a few hours only and we did not see very much of it. Still struggling with the time zone difference, we were also tired. We wanted to buy blue tiles but we eventually gave up the idea, afraid they might get damaged during shipping. Definitely, it was not the way to visit Sintra. Thanks for the video. I might never be able to go to Sintra again. I am disappointed that you do not get more comments in English. Your English text is witty, easy to follow, informative and not at all intrusive. Given the space you are giving to the Knights Templar in your videos, I suggest you visit the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. I visited it in 1999 with a Muslim guide provided right there on the Mount, organized by our private guide, an Israeli Arab Muslim. There are walking videos of the Temple Mount on UA-cam. But you must be sure there is no violence at the time of your visit. I went back to Jerusalem in 2015. One week after I left, an epidemic of stabbings erupted! I was lucky to depart before it started. As to Andersen, I visited his native house in Odense. It is incredibly small. I had to bend considerably to be able to enter without hitting my head. Quite a difference between it and the buildings of Sintra.
Sintra is one of those places where you need a lot more than just a few hours to see what it has to offer. 😀 And it needs to be done at a relaxed pace, I find that organized tours are often rushed and stressful... Not my cup of tea, I like slow paced sightseeing.
Visiting Jerusalem is on my bucket list (Canada too!), but yes, I need to make sure I don't go when there's violence.
Thank you for this wonderful walk 🤩. Such a marvellous memories 😍! I was in Quinta da Regaleira in 2008 and there was no other people in the Initiation Well, just three of us. And when we walked through the labyrinth, there was no light at all, we used our phones for lighting. And at the end we jumped over that nice stones in the water, this place was not closed. It was really mysterious experience!

@@AzoresDolphin In 2008 Quinta da Regaleira was a lot less touristy and well known compared to nowadays 😄 I still remember the days when one could visit Sintra and the number of tourists would be very low! Olá Claudia, como foi esse domingo? 😀 Eu gosto muito de aventuras! 😅 Caveleiro templário não posso confirmar, mas a pessoa que deu origem ao meu apelido de família era de fato um cavaleiro, nasceu em 1125 no Condado Portucalense (pequena região no norte que daria origem a Portugal 18 anos depois). Os templários estabeleceram-se no Condado Portucalense em 1125-1126, portanto teoricamente é possível que tivesse sido templário quando cresceu, mas não há registos a confirmar.
O neto desse cavaleiro foi Mestre mas de uma outra ordem católica militar, a Ordem de Santiago, no início do século 13. Os objetivos eram idênticos aos Templários, libertar a Peninsula Ibérica da invasão islâmica. Quando fiz o vídeo de Palmela falei nesta ordem, o castelo de Palmela era deles. 😊

Otra vez has superado mi sorpresa y encanto al poder conocer este lugar fabuloso. Que imaginación, que gusto por la intriga y el misterio aprovechando todas esas ideas antiguas( o de hoy, masones y Rosacruces, son de hoy tambien). Si, es cierto no pudimos ver mucho del interior de la inmensa casona, pero quedò compensado con los pozos y sus túneles.Yo estuve en la entrada pero ya estaba cerrado y había quedado intrigadísima con lo poco que obtuve de información, asi que agradezco el que me hayas conducido a un lugar indudablemente mágico. En cuanto a la ciudad de Sintra realmente tiene un encanto imposible de superar. Como siempre agradecidísima!!!!

Ola Miguel - two videos in one night and feeling heartsore for Portugal. This is one of my top experiences in all that we have seen in Portugal. We visited on our first trip and previous to this I had spent hours looking at pics on Pinterest. So it was just such a dream come true to visit and I will never forget the moment of taking my own "pinterest" photo of the initiatic well - a moment stamped in my memory. And you are right about Sintra - there is magic in those hills. Cant wait to be there again, warmest regards, Linda
Did you know that 15 years ago Quinta da Regaleira was almost unknown? Tourist flocked to Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle, but Regaleira would be deserted (and badly promoted).
Then came Instagram, pinterest, etc and those photos of the well (or inverted tower) made everyone want to visit Regaleira 😄
I miss the good old days... empty Initiatic Well, empty tunnels, empty Sintra. 😁

@@POVTours Even when we visited in 2016 there were very few people there which made the experience so much more enjoyable. And we were able to walk across the water. Shame that has now been closed off.

When friends were visiting me, we visited the Quinta and one of the girls was brave enough to go across the stones with me 44:41 and as you know it is suddenly extremely dark just inside. She took a wrong turn and ended up in very cold and dirty water, poor thing!

Ahaha sorry but I actually laughed out loud reading what happened to your friend 😆😆 She wasn't the only one ending up in the water, that's why the stones are off limits now, unfortunately... Even in the Initiatic Well accidents are common, especially in the winter.
@@POVTours Ha ha, sim! I have it all on video and admittedly once we were sure she was OK, we laughed and laughed... but I still feel terrible. She just stepped in to the dark and turned to the right and it was just a black hole. It was February... so it was cold! She was wet up to her knees and had a knot on her head for a couple of days but otherwise survived!

Oi Maria! 😊 Tem imensos lugares mesmo, alguns que nem são assim muito conhecidos pelos turistas (ainda... eu ainda me lembro do tempo em que ninguém sabia o que era a Quinta da Regaleira)
A Regaleira deixou de ser residência nos anos 80, quando foi vendida a uma empresa do Japão (bizarro), que nunca fez nada com a propriedade. Anos mais tarde o munícipio de Sintra comprou.
Regaleira era a Baronesa dona da propriedade antes do senhor António a comprar no final do século 19, e transformar no que é hoje. Manteve o nome.

Eu gosto muito quando assisto vídeos que mostram como o povo Português se interessa por manter os sítios arqueológicos e estudá-los. Aqui, no Brasil, há alguns lugares, mas não os conheço. Apenas uma região ao norte de Minas Gerais, meu Estado. Fui lá há alguns anos. Penso que a região Nordeste do Brasil tem muitos sítios, que estão sendo estudados. Durante séculos e milénios andámos sempre em guerra, a ser invadidos e a invadir outros povos, impérios que nascem e impérios que desaparecem. Tudo isso deixou marcas históricas, arquitetonicas, culturais... 😊

Olá Miguel! Conheci o castelo Nacional de Sintra em 2019, mas fiquei devendo conhecer os outros lugares, Quinta da Regaleira, Palácio da Pena, Castelo dos Mouros ... Me chamou muito a atenção sobre a Regaleira, pelo teor místico que o lugar representa, principalmente pelo motivo por ter pertencido, muitos anos atrás, a Ordem Rosacruz. Enfim, como sempre foram belas imagens e posso dizer que os seus vídeos me servem como roteiro turístico para minha próxima viagem. Grande abraço!

Infelizmente penso que não poderei fazer vídeo no Palácio da Pena, é proibido filmar o interior e duvido que me seja concedida autorização especial. Obrigado e até à próxima viagem! (provavelmente numa cidade que já me pediram muitas vezes...)
Nunca pertenceu à Ordem Rosacruz nem nada do género. Essas histórias de esoterismos, iniciações, maçonaria, etc., são todas totalmente inventadas. Quem mandou construir a quinta tal como é hoje, foi um senhor Carvalho Monteiro, que apenas usou as simbologias associadas a essas organizações como motivo para decoração e embelezamento extravagante da obra que mandou realizar. Nada mais do que isso.

A entrada para o Chalet Biester fica um pouco antes da Regaleira, aliás está bem visível com uma grande foto do mesmo, a bilheteira fica um pouco mais acima do lado esquerdo.

Os jardins são lindos, o Palácio nem tanto até por conta das reformas, agora aquele Poço de Iniciação é simplesmente mágico, misterioso até mesmo meio inexplicável. Imagino que pessoalmente deve dar um friozinho na barriga ao descer aquelas escadas estreitas carregadas de histórias. Realmente Sintra deve ter lugares encantadores e enigmáticos. Mais uma vez excelente vídeo que vc fez. Parabéns!!!!
@@verasolla2499 Verdade, o Palácio desilude um pouco, até porque que me lembre nunca foi possível visitar na totalidade, só deixam ver 1 piso (que será que há nos outros??). Descer o Poço é muito emocionante, especialmente se não existirem mais pessoas por perto! 😀Aconselho a nunca visitar no fim de semana, fica demasiado cheio.

Mas vou fazer uma reparação, vi fotos do Palácio na Internet e ele pode estar feinho agora, talvez por falta de cuidados, mas a Fachada e a entrada principal são belíssimas, a Capela Tb é muito lindinha. Acho que com muito carinho e atenção ele poderia voltar a ser belíssimo, porque extremamente interessante ele já é. Não acha??
@@verasolla2499 O exterior do palácio sempre foi magnífico, cheio de pormenores interessantes. É muito gótico e ao mesmo tempo inclui outros estilos arquitetonicos. O interior é que é desilude um pouco, talvez se um dia abrissem os pisos todos ao público, especialmente para ir ao terraço que tem no topo, isso ajudaria. 😊

Hello torvi! 😊 Of my previous 9 videos, none of them were in Lisbon, or only 1, if you consider Sintra as Lisbon (it's not Lisbon, geographically, culturally or architecturally, even if it's only 30 minutes away). Some cities and towns I filmed in: Tomar (twice in April), Fátima (April), Porto de Mós (April), Montijo, Palmela, Azambuja, Torres Vedras, Caldas da Rainha, Lourinhã, Óbidos, Ericeira, Mafra, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sesimbra, Vila Franca de Xira, Moita, Seixal, etc...
Plus many more that are coming soon, both north and south of Portugal, including one very special I filmed today. I always said that I would start filming further away from Lisbon as soon as days got longer. 😊

João, friends and family allegedly being unaware of it doesn't prove anything. There are probably millions of couples on the planet where one spouse is cheating on the other, leading double lives. Ask the faithful spouse if they believe that their partner is cheating on them, 99% will say "absolutely not, impossible!"
I have no idea what my friends are up to in their private lives. For all I know they could be in a satanic cult and I'd be none the wiser. 🙂
Like I said in the other comment, I don't think anyone in 2022 can say with absolute certainty if this or that happened or not, almost 100 years ago. If indeed secret initiation rites were performed by secret societies in Quinta da Regaleira, the key word here is "secret".
