    Grant, you should try and make a silicone mold of an old vinyl record and fill the mold with epoxy or resin or something and see if it sounds the same

    You should purchase a globular glass "jar" along with other shapes. The circular glass jar should be stronger so it will be really interesting to see it compared to the normal one. Thanks. Up vote this so he can see.

    How did the gopro record sound in the vacuum chamber?
    Sound doesn't travel in a vacuum.

    • @TheKingofRandom
      @TheKingofRandom  7 років тому +73

      You're right, it was the audio from my microphone, not from the GoPro. I checked the original footage and there is no sound from the GoPro. Only the vibrations from the internal microphone when the jar is hit.

    • @theoproudley9977
      @theoproudley9977 7 років тому

      Valdemar Åberg that were recording the sound with re other camera as it was his mic picking up the sound not the go pro.

    • @spoonikle
      @spoonikle 7 років тому +8

      While grant already answered the question - Sound can travel in a vacuum chamber.
      Sound travels through any medium - its only vibrations in materials that we call sound, it isn't anything beyond kinetic energy transference.
      In a vacuum chamber, the chamber walls transmit sound. With a properly tuned mic attached to the walls - or a laser mic, you can hear sound or detect kinetic energy vibrating the walls in a vacuum chamber.

    • @Arron__
      @Arron__ 7 років тому +3

      Actually, there is only no sound in a perfect vacuum which is impossible to create.

    • @Owgla

      Wout That could be interesting since sound needs a medium to be able to travel, like air or water.

    • @janfilby7086
      @janfilby7086 7 років тому +1

      Wout wouldnt it just get quieter

    • @Owgla
      @Owgla 7 років тому +5

      DomoTimba Yes, since there wouldn't be a medium for the soundwaves there would be no sound inside at all.

    • @kin0025
      @kin0025 7 років тому +10

      Owgla since it isn't a perfect vacuum you might see some transfer of sound. A speaker can't be completely suspended without magnets, so vibration may be transmitted through the chamber as well. Would be interesting to see how much sound is transmitted.

    • @bansky3237
      @bansky3237 7 років тому +1

      dimmacommunication U sure? Im Pretty sure itll sink

    • @axoliminator
      @axoliminator 7 років тому +2

      my guess is that it would sink. The air is what allows it to float because the air is less dense than the water. take away the air and you only have the weight of the glass jar, wich would then sink.

    • @halsoy
      @halsoy 7 років тому

      Keep in mind that floating isn't always dependant if there's air in the medium or not. As long as you're buyant enough, you'll float. vacuum or not. If a glass pane floats, there's no real reason why a jar shouldn't float, even with a vacuum on the inside. It's buyancy that dictates that. Keep in mind, a normal glass cup floats, even with some water in it.

      The inner chamber will have less stress upon it. With the sealing method shown in this video, the inner chamber would have trouble sealing. If some mechanical clamping is arranged on the inner chamber to make it seal properly, it will (in best cases) be found to degrade the vacuum more slowly, since there is less external pressure to force gas through the seal.

      Actually if you want to make bread fluffy, you need two things. A leavening agent, something that will put air bubble into it, and structure, something in the dough that will keep the bubbles in. The structure is done by gluten. As you knead dough, it becomes harder and harder, because the gluten is proving more structure.
      Depending on the type of bread you're making, ie Irish soda bread or dinner rolls, you'd use different things

      Pablo Gomez it wasn't a perfect vacuum, and also it was resting on the glass, which provided as a placement medium instead of air. All sound is is air molecules vibrating. Instead of air, the glass vibrated, transmitting the sound to the GoPro.

    There was definitely a pressure wave when the chamber was dropped. It went completely flat, sucking everything inwards you can still see the camera shake. Nothing on the ground moves during either time the camera moved but they’re in the second. You can actually see the pressure wave the only way to really tell that the camera moves is by looking at the background you’ll see it’s slightly shaky.
