You are literally our Dream! Thanks very much for sharing these beautiful information and motivation with us ! Congratulations on everything! 💜💜 We feel your happiness 🧡🧡
Anoosha, I have been binge watching your videos for the past few day, and taking notes! You are such a blessing, as others have expressed. I am so grateful for your desire to help us illustrators move forward with our careers. I’ve been watching videos on this subject for the past three years. NO ONE, as far as I know, has given people as much information as you, on UA-cam. Thank you!
Wow! You are such an INSPIRATION Anoosha!! Absolutely loved this video. It was packed with so much helpful information. The first book that I illustrated just got published and I'm keen to keep going. Next goal: finding an agent! Loved the way you outlined the entire process from finding an agent to getting your own book published. Looking forward to learning more from you
Congratulations Anoosha!!! I'm so so so happy for you! Thank you for sharing your experience with us, I've learned a lot from your videos and you totally deserve this deal. Can't wait to hear more about your bookmaking journey when it comes out :)
you are such a WEALTH of amazing information! thank you for sharing your experience with us. I'm at the start of my picture book journey, just signed with an agent, and am in the process of having my work sent out. I really appreciate hearing the journey of others who have found success!
Wow! This is so exciting! Huge congratulations! Your book sounds fantastic, I think I'll have to pre-order a copy. Once again, you've made a super interesting and informative video. I really appreciate how clearly you explain everything even when you can't share specific details about the projects. I've noticed the trend you were talking about with authors and illustrators being pigeonholed. I am always trying to add diverse books into my classroom library and I've found that a lot of the diverse books coming out are about really heavy topics. While those books are super important, I definitely think there's a need for more diverse books that are just fun.
I'm so happy for you! I identified so strongly when you talk about being a bookworm as a child, I would stay up until 3 am reading and dreaming of writing my own books. You reminded me of that dream and fill me with hope now that I've recently signed with an agent and am working on my first books. Good luck with your debut!
Congratulations Anoosha! That's amazing news! I will definitely pre-order! You look so happy and excited! This must be for you a big achievement and you must be so proud of you! 😊 Excited news in these difficult days! 🌸🌸💖
Dear Anoosha, you are a great storyteller. I have loved watching all your videos here; they are so inspiring. Thanks for the helpful tips and showing that the road might be rocky but still worth traveling. I cannot wait to see your book as the author AND illustrator.
This was such and amazing and detailed video, thank you so much Anoosha! I'm so so happy for you and the journey that you're taking. Can't wait to know more about the book! ;D
Congratulations on your deal!! That is so fabulous!! Yay! Your video and your advice are so helpful! I am beginning my pb journey and your experience and opinions about the industry are invaluable.
Congratulations! I love your illustrations and can't wait to pre-order your book. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and the resources you found helpful. Hearing your story is so inspiring and makes me hope I can publish a picture book someday too
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing this good news. Very inspiring, and will push me further toward my goals of being published in the future. Good luck to all aspiring authors on this board.
when you announced the name of your book on your socials it almost made me tear up, this subject is very important to me and I can't wait to read it !!❤️
big congrats! and thank you for always sharing your insights and experiences. Keeping all your helpful tips in my head and taking notes. Its sure to inspire my own practice :)
Thank you for your videos. They have been a big help in understanding the process for picture book illustrations. I’m currently working on my first illustration deal and had been in a creative block but your videos really helped me get out of my own head and move forward through the process. A lot of lessons learned for sure but thanks for your content.
Congratulations Anoosha! That is amazing! I love your videos, art, and insight into PB illustration. This is will deserved and wish you all the best with this! I will definitely pre-order your book.
You're an inspiration anoosha! Very happy for you. Wishing you luck! You have provided so many helpful informations that will leave a big impact on someone else's career. I get confidence and inspiration from watching and listening to you. So thank you for everything!
Ahh, became teary eyed too at the end! 😭💕 Congratulations on your first book, you deserve it so much! (You mentioned wanting to make a childrensbooks with cats, and I just casually wanna mention that meowrtist is still one of my favourite characters of yours 😼😹 💕 Thank you so much for another super informative video! Though I'm currently pursuing comics, it was still super interesting to get an insight into how the publishing industry works in the US.
Hi Anoosha, Can you please make a video on how to make a dummy in procreate step by step? As dummy should be made before getting an agent or submitting, what features or requirements a dummy must have in terms of size of the pages, etc.? What if I make a dummy that I like with the features that I like but the agent or the publisher want to for example change the size of the page?
The page on your book about coffees and keychains reminds me of a compilation of stories called an American like me. One of them was about a girl who would say her name was Maya on her coffee order, because her name was something of Hindu dissent that most people could not pronounce(Reshma), and a big part of the story was keychains with peoples names on them. I think it’s funny how you even use the same Maya
thks for ur tips and advices.... i always listen to ur storytelling and experience sharing whenever i draw. For a beginner artist like me, u r such a great idol to look up to
Hi Anoosha!! Can I ask if you have any advice for getting into graphic novel illustrating, or if you know someone who shares information about that topic? It seems that many graphic novels are illustrated and written by the same person, but I am more interested in the illustration side and I’m really struggling to find information about that category of the book industry. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience of the industry, it is SO appreciated!! 💕 You’re probably so busy, so I understand if you cant answer this! I figured it didn’t hurt to ask ☺️
I am really happy for you, Anoosha! Congrats in advance on being a bestselling author! I am not sure if my name is that unique but people always mispronounce AND misspell it! Once again, congratulations!
WOW! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Thanks for sharing this info. I am an illustrator and author, who has been published locally... but not in children's genre. Does it take two YEARS for most children's books to get published? Also, can I pitch a "finished" project to a publisher, even tho I would expect to do edits/revisions? Did you have to get a literary agent to get your deal?
Thank you! I think at minimum it takes a year! The process of pitching, signing contracts, actually working on the book, then printing the book is a very slow process haha Unfortunately, most publishers won't look at unsolicited submissions (without an agent). In some cases you can do it by yourself, but this is usually only when a publisher approaches you first for your ideas, or if the publisher accepts submissions without an agent.
This is such an awesome and informative video! Thanks so much for making it. :) I have one question -- when you mentioned you created a file on your iPad to do your brainstorming writing, what app did you use to do this? Thanks!
how would i go about contacting a publishing company myself? i dont have a following, editors or managers, or experience since im still a student, but i have ideas and id like to make them into books. how would i go about getting them published by companies when i do make them? not even necessarily a childrens book, but a comic book or graphic novel as well
An agent is mainly the best way to go; most major publishers don't accept submissions without an agent involved, though there are some smaller pubs that are open to submissions, just have to research. I made two videos on agents if you're interested in learning more on the process of finding representation!
Thanks for your helpful information as always! In following your advice I actually came upon a question: Is it bad etiquette to reach out to several agents within the same agency if you like multiple agents and want to try for each of them? Thanks as always! Keep Inspiring us all!
I think Bookends literary has a video on this and I believe they recommended that you stick to just one agent in the agency otherwise it might appear spammy?
Unfortunately, most publishers won't look at unsolicited submissions (without an agent). In some cases you can do it by yourself, but this is usually only when a publisher approaches you first for your ideas, or if the publisher accepts submissions without an agent.
The part where you talk about authors never mentioning illustrators really is infuriating and I'm not even an illustrator. I recently purchased a middle grade book with such a beautiful cover (it literally took my breath away) and i looked through the book trying to find the illustrator because I wanted to look for them to see if they sold their own original work that i could buy. But I couldn't find any credit on the book. I even went to the author's twitter thinking that even if the publisher/publishing house didn't think to add credit, surely the author was mentioning them on social media and... nope. Nothing. I had to do SO MUCH digging just to find the illustrator and it infuriated me on their behalf. I ended up finding out the artist actually illustrated alot of my favorite middle grade covers and was actually a very prolific illustrator with a ton of popular work... And none (not one) of these authors ever credited her. I'm so mad. And I'm literally so very sorry that happens and that it's happened to you BUT also CONGRATS on the book deal! ✊ The book sounds AMAZING, definitely preordering if that still available right now and I'm so sorry I'm late, i just came across you on twitter and clicked on the link to this video. 💖
Thank you so much! Yes I think cover artists have it so much worse, they very rarely get credited and it's really so unfair! Artists are starting to speak up now because of the unfair treatment and I hope we start to see a change soon, and see rightful credit!
I am so happy for you Anoosha! Eagerly waiting for your book! 😍 Will be pre-ordering it!!💃
