Why is it that nobody tells what you can put in a 'toyhauler' when the obvious reason you buy one is to carry atvs or small cars? None of the manufactures have detailed dimensions on their websites, none of them. It's like pulling teeth to find out anything about these things. Like how wide of a vehicle can you drive up into the garage? How tall? What weight can you safely haul? Can you put and haul, say, a jeep grand cherokee inside of it that weighs roughly 4,000 lbs.? How about a Honda Talon? Why does all these channels go on and on about the fridges, water hookups, and other amenities when describing a toyhauler but never, ever, tell anything about the capacity of what "toys" you can haul in them?
the difference between loaded and unloaded weights is 5000. So the Jeep is out. Because that CCC is also including anything and everything you pack in the camper. Most Grand Cherokees are over 6K lbs. They are short enough though. Since the rig is 8.5 ft wide, You'd expect it to be about 7ft inside, and the inside height is a good guess at the same 7-8ft. Those beds and sofas are 80" from the floor when stowed up. I found that on a Grand Design forum. The 4 door Talon weighs 1735lbs, so It'll probably be doable if you don't pack a ton in the living area. They don't tell you specific vehicles because they don't want to get sued when you load a certain vehicle and then load 5,000 lbs of crap in the living area and flip the damned thing while driving overloaded in the mountains. It is nerve-racking to have to go to outside sites to find specs on the vehicle you are looking at, but I've dealt with it, trying to find out how long a motorcycle I wanted to buy was beforehand.. couldn't find the info from the manufacturer. I've dealt with it on towing and tech specs on trucks, bikes, and campers... it's not exclusive to toy haulers. The Manufacturers are never forthcoming when the specs are concerned.. Forums and sites like rvusa.com are very helpful.
To anyone in CA, you need a Non commercial Class A license for this...same road test as a truck driver...we bought a 395m in 2018 brand new and the dealer never said a word about it...2yrs later...we have yet to get the license and have been paying for storage for both the fifth wheel and truck ...have been training with a truck driver to get the skills down for the test and had it scheduled for April..then Covid hits ...and you need a CDL driver to drive the rig to the test site....you cannot drive it there on your own for the test. Just do your research before getting anything this big. Unfortunately my wife chose what she wanted and I didn’t know anything about them. We went back to the dealer and spoke about how they shouldn’t sell something to someone that doesn’t have the proper license or at least tell us about that requirement before purchasing. We tried to do a trade but they were asking us to put the difference down between this and another one ...so we decided to keep what we have and just try to pass the road test.
