I lost a very nice lake trout right at the boat when an inproved clinch knot slipped and failed loosing the fish of a life time. That brought me here now I have a new knot to try out.

I like how he uses circle hooks. They dont gut hook as much as J hooks. If you catch a huge fish let it go and breed if it's not going to die. The small ones are better eaters anyways. I do alot of catch and release and I gotta say circle hooks are my favorite now and spoons.

straight braid to hook is a bad idea, under tension even a fish's tail could break it... still use a leader even if freelining. Not to mention braid is more visible
