@@compactrhythm I guess it sounds like you want to listen to more rock. But I must say, this group is versatile. Besides rock, there are also soft emotional and like pop songs. OOR has more than 100 songs and that's why it's a long journey to discover. One of my favorites are Ending Story tour live, No Scared at Yokohama stadium, One By One live 2015 tour 35xxxv and Jibun Rock tour live and the fan fact is that in some part of this performance, Taka forgets the lyrics and just makes up something and screams. He's freaking cute

I think they're very skilled players I feel like I'm yet to see it in just a song. I really liked the video you suggested and I know I came off as negative in these last few videos. Maybe it's because I'm coming straight off of My First Story and expecting something similar in sound so I'm gonna try my best to separate that idea that's been planted in my mind

i mean mate, the guitarist has to cover rhythm and lead since they only have one guitarist... cant really have many solos or anything like that when you've gotta hold the rhythm together, its a pop singalong type chorus song, do you want him to shred lol?
kinda confused around 2:42 what you are talking about, hes playing right for the song... if you aren't just a naive tim henson fanboy you should know that playing what fits the song is far more important than adding flashy and unnecessary shredding. its what stops alot of guitarists with great technique from becoming "Great" guitarists, since many of them don't know how to play what fits the song.
"Of course hes playing a strat" also makes no sense lol... the guy can play rings around you brother, clearly you've been playing a bit, and i'm not trying to be disrespectful, but you are far from the ability of Toru Yamashita lol. He is signed to PRS as an artist, not Fender... He mostly plays various PRS Customs or Les Pauls...
This is not a prog tech death metal band or a math rock band, its a pop punk/hard rock band, they write good songs with solid riffs and good melodies. Music is not about trying to play the most complex rhythms and chord shapes over wacky time signatures, its about making a song that is coherent and everything inside it should fit with the rest of the song.

    • @compactrhythm
      @compactrhythm  5 місяців тому

Nah shredding is cringe but playing 4 chords across a whole song is equally as cringe. Reminds me of bands like oasis or arctic monkey. Also I didn't mean him playing a strat was an insult. I'm sure he can play better than me but I'm waiting (and have been asking) to see it because it still feels like him and the bass player are just nobodies in comparison
Edit: maybe I expected too much coming straight off my first story so I'll try to separate them next time

@@compactrhythmYh it’s pop/rock with country involved they don’t do full on rock anymore, taka the lead singer is the reason hiro wanted to do music. The member also didn’t naturally come from backgrounds to do with rock music one was a piano teacher one was a dancer one didn’t even play an instrument and taka the lead singer was a ex Japanese idol. This was more of a impulsive decision 2 of the members made in school then they found the other 2 members ,now apart from hyde there the 2nd biggest rock band from Japan. So it’s fine if u don’t like them just don’t disrespect and downplay how great they are. They have worked with some of the biggest artists, ed Sheeran ,arvil lavigne , Mike shinoda, muse,my first story, linkin park who they are very close with and we’re going to tour together but Chester died weeks before , taka also preformed for linkin parks last concert to do Chester’s part. They play the biggest venues through Asia not trying to brag but they have achieved so much since 2005 until now. People who react who are rock fan can always never believe takas voice because it’s so unusual for oprock singer to have such a great singing voice that’s what one ok rock is known about there live show of how they captivate the audience is what there known for , it may not be the drum solo but it’s about the lyrics and how they in power the young Japanese generation , it’s that more amazing then where the guys doing with his guitar in which he is a professional at. My first story and one our com are two different bands u should never go into something with an expectation from somewhere else, because hiro looks up to taka so much and admires him so much , he didn’t listen to his parents who is the japans biggest selling singer who didn’t want him to do music but he did it anyway and he has built so much from it. Taka made the path so hiro could do it to. There both amazing performers and artists they love and respect each other.
Think before u speak and if u have nothing nice to say don’t very simple and in no way am I trying to be disrespectful 😊

Fine if u don’t get moved by it but liked I said if u don’t have anything nice to said don’t just cause u have an opinion doesn’t mean u have to use, it’s kinda like everyone has an asshole doesn’t mean people should see it.

@@compactrhythm Just noticed you're wearing an oasis shirt lol... Arctic Monkeys are not a bad band at all, especially pre 2013. Again this is one of the only songs i've really heard that are only 4chords from them. Complexity is not a necessity. In this case the 4chord structure fits this pop-ish track and i wouldn't change it. Live performances are recommended because of how good taka's live vocals are, and the energy of the band and the crowd provides far more enjoyment than a studio version. Personally i think you should check out some MV's since you don't seem to like the lives. I think you would enjoy "NO SCARED" from their post-hardcore era, then i would watch the live performances from "Answer Is Near" and "Koi No Aibou No Kokoro No Cupido" both live from Yokohama Stadium. These are not massively popular tracks from them, which is why im suggesting them when others would rather you hear their bigger hits. I would then suggest Re:Make music video, it has a shorter solo but again he is both rhythm and lead and its hard to find time to put a solo when you're making this sort of post-hardcore punk-ish music they did from 2005-2013

One Ok Rock is less about fancy outstanding riffs somos or showcasing their best abilities but creating music thats more on the "simple" side. They have easy to sing along melodies and lyrics.
Everyone experiences music differently and if thats not your kind of music or band thats totally fine.
Maybe you need to listen more to them or its simply not a fit for you.
I think many fans recommend the live versions as they have already been to live concerts of them and the tone quality and stage presence is just outstanding together with their great interaction with the fans during the concerts.
Even though lyrics arent that interesting to you for many fans they are as most of their song discuss topics many people can relate to.

And also his energy on stage and It's great that his connection with his fans and they made the fans a part of the song. I definitely enjoy watching their live performances more. Let me explain why the live is better, I don't know you'll get it or not, lemme try
    1. The stage performance is so good
    2. You can see the interaction with the audiences are great
    3. You can see the difference between the lives and studio version (like you said, there's instrumental) that instrumental might be won't be played for another tour, and they'll add another arrangements to another songs... It happens to the song called we are & take what you want, where on the tour of that album there's some spices / seasoning/ arrangements that they add on the lives, after that they didn't do it (but for some of it. like, the solo guitar part, some of the song Will still have that)...
Or for another example, the song called wherever you are. They did slow version on tour with cello & piano (while the song is a rock ballad song). And they only did that only in 1 album tour which makes it more exclusive
You can see the clock strikes one, where he held for 30 seconds, that's something that the studio version doesn't have
And there's alot of other approach, arrangements, audiences interaction, etc
And we never said the studio version is bad, but with add more MSG will give more rich flavors to the food right? Well, same with OOR's songs
Maybe you should watch the MV first and then the Live version after that in 1 video reaction, to know what I meant
I hope you'll get it, sorry for my bad English (not an English speaker)

he just means their old style which is more post hardcore (2005-2013 mainly) and their albums from 2015, 2017, 2022 are more "rock with pop" while their 2019 album is a full Pop album. btw taka is the main and sole lyricist basically on every song in every album from 2005-2013, then in their 2015 album they started incorporating some more producers, and then they signed to FBR. This label basically pushed them in a pop music direction including songwriters etc from 2017 onwards which many didn't like. In 2022 they came out and said they would be releasing a rock album. @@compactrhythm

Wanna see Toru shred? Go for Push Back live eye of the storm tour, or even Mad World, or any of their older, harder songs, or check out the intro to take me to the top called 35xxxv, that's a purely instrumental track. Music taste cannot be argued with, if you don't like a band, that's fine. But to sh*t on great musicians just to trigger more comments on your channel is kinda meh. I don't really feel like checking out any other reactions from you cuz... why? Perfect musicians don't exist and while Toru might not be the Greatist Guitarist Ever Born, he's a solid musician, he composed hit songs that led national music charts in Japan, so your dissing will become valid when you surpass him. Until then, please try to be a little more humble about music, dude. They got where they are now cuz they are humble musicians. These guys are super huge in Asia and yet it wasn't beneath their dignity to start from the very bottom of the ladder in the US, doing opening shows to international superstars like Muse or Evanescence. That's musicianship, dude. That's being dedicated to their craft and their audience. These guys do 2 and half hour shows with incredible energy, not one song is performed with less stamina and enthusiasm than a previous one. When you are gonna be able to do that -- you can then criticize their musicianship :) until then, maybe you shouldn't act like you know music better than these guys who have been in the business for over 20 years now. Peace.
