Mark is such a master that he verified what it wasn't and worked out it was digital logic thing. Glad your community has come up with the rest of that story! You'll half a Deville's wring loom hanging off that thing by the time your finished! What a journey!

Knowing the history behind the formats, it's like a cat and a dog fused into one body. :D
I doubt this will magically fix it, but "12 volt" car audio equipment is actually designed to run on 13.8 volts DC, which is the typical voltage when the engine is running and the alternator is charging the battery. And even when the engine is off, a fully charged car battery typically puts out around 12.7 volts. So 12.0 volts might be a bit too low.
Thanks for the feedback. The voltage did not make any difference unfortunately. We now know, that if we can get the Deville body control module, it should power up.
Because it is a A/C Delco unit - That is a GM brand. It might have a security code that has locked the unit preventing theft. It might have to be tied to the main computer of the vehicle it came out of in order to be enabled.
As soon as you've worked it out, please inform Mark, je is such a nice guy, and he will surely be interested how you managed to do things... Awesome video as always Ralf!
Hello my friend dcc musum, I watched with great interest the interesting episode in which you visited Mark in the United Kingdom, in which you presented a very unique model of the wonderful DCC devices, and in which Mark tried to repair the device, but to repair it requires time. I am Mourad from Algeria. Personally, I have a great passion for these devices, but I have no idea about this unique device. I wish you both success in repairing it, and see you with the new ones. I hope to see this device working in the next episode. My regards to Mark.
yeah, I doubt it'll kick off, but I was hopefull about a hack :) ...car radios are no longer interchangeable because of the anti-theft systems. even the cheapest ones nowadays became an issue if you lose the little card that comes with the car's manual and where the codes are. New sub indeed, your channel was a nice discovery from Mark's community!
Very cool. Once I heard "body control module", it all made sense. Also was wondering about the security code when I saw the "theftlock" label on the front panel. Got my fingers crossed you can get what you need.
Knowing that’s a BOSE version of a GM Radio. That’s a higher trim. Those needed a central control module for things like speakers and such. An external power amp. But I have a feeling that Theftlock is the issue. I’ve dealt with those in RDS GMs. I tried the chip removal. Nope. It needs that code from the vehicle it was from. I don’t think that’s a one off either. But GM can re-pair it to a new vehicle to enable to radio. But the effort might just be more than its ever worth. Sadly. Great try guys. Also this might use the CAN BUS system. That’s a whole nother kettle of fish.
This was like a mystery murder film, great video!, back in the day some of those devices had antitheft tech in them, maybe it was already activated, rendering the device useless.
I still use minidisc today. I love the format. Shame both MD and DCC where not more mainstream as they are perfect small format. I miss physical media now hence my continued use.
I remember working on a RF radio set, could not find the fault, I completely dismantled it. Replaced every component, still nothing. 2 years on and off it completely ruined me! I lost it, bounced the thing of a wall. Hey presto it worked. Still to this day, 25 years on i have no idea what was wring with it.
Are you sure it’s the only Bose mini disc back in the early 2000’s Mazda had a modular audio system that you could install different pieces into and I’ve installed a mini disc into one of these units including the Bose audio system
There was a kind of "DVD" disk that when played, would show a short video, but what you would see is more lije a 3D hologram. I think the reason it wasn't fully produced was due to cost. Do you have one of them, or a video of it? Not sure of its actual name. Thank you 🤓 yes, I have seen it.
I have a 1998 Cadillac Seville STS it has a mini disc player in it too ( it’s a right hand drive ) however my FM radio is very quiet sort of like it has no amplifier however tapes play just fine - do you have any idea why that would be the case ?
Yes on Mend It Mark's channel some months ago. Additional information has come to light hence this version is slightly longer and the last couple of minutes explains what is required to enable the unit to power on.
Did take us a long time to find a good connector. Turns out whatever connector you are using, it would not be enough. You need a body control module, so it would work. Can you share a photo video of yours to curator@dccmuseum.com?
I would bet with that temp code, it might do something. I have 3 GM radios that are of this vintage. I can tell one this. This is not a one off prototype. Likely an option VERY seldom chosen in a high end car.

But in this case it's not entertainment for children only.
By the way, the 45 rpm record and the 33 rpm record initially were different formats too.
catdoooog, catdooooog
I would have loved to see a dcc and minidisc combo deck in my car. Dcc sounds awesome and minidisc is great too. I miss the 1990's

weird nice feeling when finding a great channel content creator commenting around 😅...greetings @vwestlife!

And nearly every chip in these is either custom silicon or custom labeled.

Awesome video as always Ralf!
Mark knows about every step we take regarding this project. Really a fantastic guy.

Happy to saw again “my” stereo! Looking forward to see it working! 💪💪
Seeing to the end. Those experts will have more knowledge than I by a long shot. Good luck gentlemen.

Stay tuned,as we have a big surprise coming regarding this.
Muito legal esse equipamento. Parabéns pelo vídeo e sucesso ao canal. Abraços do Brasil.

I would check the anti-theftlock circuit, they use to really lock those radios up back in the day.

Did the guy say the unit needs to read a matching vehicle registration number and a anti theft code? Good luck with that!

Mark, respect!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope there will be a happy ending for this awesome combo radio.

This headunit would have gone into a 5th gen Cadillac Seville. To add on, I'm fairly certain that these are powered on by GMLAN.
That radio would have been intended for the 1998-2004 Cadillac Seville
Amazing update!
Hi! try to replace the amplifier ic i think that might solve the problem thanks!
That was a lot of fun to watch!
So intriguing. It's Agatha Christie for the 21st century
That is a lovely VFD!
Too bad they aren't used in car decks anymore...
Why does the internet hide Mend it Mark espisodes on different channels from me!? :E
Clearly the Radio out from a Cadillac Sevilla STS - fascinating that it has MD AND DCC. The suitable car and a GM Tech 2 would help i guess
Great effort
Funny, I just removed my reaction to take a look at the theftlock on Mend It Mark.
OMFG THIS IS FREAKING COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That power button is a soft logic button. It has to be can bus.
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies… Rivers and seas boiling… Dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

There are many more MD car players, but only one combo with DCC
Noooooooo I really wanted Mark to find a fix.
There will hopefully a part 2 to this video!

I'm almost positive sony made one for home audio
Fantastic

Can you send a picture of this unit to curator@dccmuseum.com ?
Hasn't this been uploaded before?
Yes on Mend It Mark's channel some months ago. Additional information has come to light hence this version is slightly longer and the last couple of minutes explains what is required to enable the unit to power on.
Wasn't this posted on Mark's channel 6 months ago?
Yes, we collaborated. We now know that we need a body control module to get it working. We hope to do a follow up as well.
luv the germans
Hhhhh.... I have a fully working one but without the cables connector, I cant find the cables connector in market.
Did take us a long time to find a good connector. Turns out whatever connector you are using, it would not be enough. You need a body control module, so it would work. Can you share a photo video of yours to curator@dccmuseum.com?
I have the same one
Thats great. Can you share a photo or video? Please send it to curator@dccmuseum.com.

These radios wont power up on the bench it will only turn on with the vehicle it came out from. It has anti theft.
wow
I don’t feel like you guys were defeated, you didn’t have the entire setup so no way to make it work..
Two lossy digital media formats in the same unit.
code locked
Typical 80's GM look
Wow that looks like a classic Delco unit. Awful. Seems it was designed for an early 2000 Pontiac.
Car electronics is wierd.
Now you know why it was a prototype, what a hideous design
