Re: the execution
It's not that we don't notice the flaws, it's just that some of them add to it and are intentional (hear me out please) ...
Nothing in the story itself is shiny and perfect and pretty. Sexual and physical abuse, paedophilia, drugs and gang culture, death, murder, and being orphaned are all raw, ugly, and gritty, so it doesn't make sense for it to be a perfect, polished, stage-school performance.
Some of them are just live 'blips' that happen, and I like that he's real enough not to fake it and edit them out. Too much of this world is autocorrected, autotuned, airbrushed, tweaked, up itself, and just plain overproduced.

Most of the big vocal analysts highlight the fact Ren *doesn't* always sound perfect and isn't scared to sound 'ugly' or imperfect. It adds a layer of realism and confidence, in a world where art is often overprocessrd. Art isn't perfect. It can be messy and still beautiful, because it is real.
One of the most real videos out there is Blind Eyed featuring car park attendant. A string snaps, they're chased out of the garage, but they continue to perform, blips and laughs, and the finished product is amazing because it is *real* and the talent seeps through even with the little mistakes while hurrying out
“Don’t start yodeling on them steps” had me crying. Then the ghost had me drop dead. 😂😂

i dont want to seem "salty" but the execution not being 100% perfect comes down to his performance being 100% live. You cant expect absolute flawless performances when you're playing a guitar, remembering a million words and going on a little hike all at the same time.

The way Ren draws you in to Violet's story to the point you (listener in general) almost forget about Jenny and Screech's stories, only to tie it all up at the end, is masterful. It then forces you to go back and put the pieces of the story together... a masterpiece.

@@anomaly3215 well, I don't happen to think that the execution was trash, and I do think context matters. The fact that it was one-take means that there's a little latitude if a phrase or two isn't in perfect synch with the music or if a pitch here or there is flat or sharp. That's what makes live performances so good and unique. If he didn't care for the style, he should just say that, but to suggest that the "execution" was bad is nonsense. But then, he's entitled to his opinion, as am I. I'm not slamming him, I'm just disagreeing with him.

Edit after the video: thank you for pushing through 😋🤣… I think you also have to remember that these are actually pretty old, and he did them with almost no budget.. and with the equipment he had available to him at the time… I think most people always take that into account… and quite a few people hold him up as example for artists starting out.. showing that you could still create… even if you don’t have a budget..

Jenny and Screech were both born on the same day and died on the same day. As victims of violence, both Jenny’s and her mother’s response to it was to freeze in silence…a response which led to both of them being killed.
The trilogy closes in a circle, just as the circle of violence through three generations (Jenny’s father was abusive) also closes in a circle. All three, victims of domestic abuse, passed down through generations.

Props for watching it, and for the respect to the audience. The lack of any emotional response to the music and what it tries to convey is a subjective thing, but the lack of emotional response to the events he describes is objectively a damning tale itself. Two kids die and your response was "people die every day". Violet gets beaten to death and you roll your eyes. This response tells a story maybe as powerful as Ren's. Dude licensed him a beat with uncleared samples, got one of his most popular songs delisted, and is trying to hold it hostage, trying to make Ren pay for all of it, *_after_* Ren made him an insanely generous offer. All of it the beat maker's fault to start.
@@MichelleShowI tagged you today in the community post on Ren's channel where Ren has, for the first time, asked all reactors that do react to his music to please react to the song he's releasing tomorrow. There's a 40 min video on Ren's channel explaining the situation that caused him to create this song. Basically, Ren and a producer, Kujo, had some issues to do with the Beat that Ren bought and used to make his song Sick Boi. Kujo used a stolen sample, didn't tell Ren when Ren bought the Beat, etc, etc, etc.... Anyway, Ren tried to come to a fair agreement but dude just kept turning everything down and threatened to take 100% of the money made from the publishing AND the master - which he prob wouldn't win from the receipts that Ren shows in the video. Kujo issued a copyright strike on the vid as leverage, refused to put it back up so finally Ren got sick of shit and took the song off all platforms himself and is re-creating the song in full - WITHOUT A STOLEN SAMPLE AND WITHOUT KUJO - and Ren is putting out a song dedicated to Kujo called Kujo Beatdown and Ren has warned it's a very angry song... he has said this one does not end like his Dotta diss.

Reminder also: This all is a story that Ren wrote himself. It came from him seeing a news story where it said that a 14 yr old boy murdered a prostitute in the street.
Hi Ren and the Tales are not SONGS. I mean they ARE but it's the fact that you're talking about a man with a guitar, telling an impactful story that HE wrote, ON THE STREETS with no edits. Say what you want about execution, but that's TALENT, my guy and that's why we're here for Ren. STRIPPED DOWN he's fucking fantastic - his actual EDITED videos and music are BEYOND incredible. REN IS DIFFERENT! If you're looking for cookie cutter shit that would have played on MTV in my day, you're not likely to get that from Ren, but even if this isn't your style, you have to acknowledge the talent. Takes much more talent to make art than criticize it.

There's two things that make this impressive. First, all 3 parts are separate one-take live videos. Second, this all started with a newspaper article about a young woman being knifed, and the killer shot by police shortly thereafter. Violet was 100% Ren showing the persistence of generational violence.

Appreciate your reaction to this song. This is a VERY SAD tale; But, what I LOVE the MOST about "The Tale of Jenny and Screech" is that in the end it points out that Jenny and Screech were siblings. This gave me insight into Ren's compassion for humanity and the recognition of how wrong it is. It should not be this way. We all brothers and sisters. That we are divine spiritual beings in mortal bodies. We should treat each other as such. Jenny and Screech grew up in the foster system so that they didn't know they were siblings. But, if we're taught like we should be taught; that we are ALL BROTHER and SISTERS! That is the way we should ALL treat each other! This is what I like about this song. Hopefully, one day we will all know this. "Every so often there comes an artist that says things on a certain level that just resonates." I feel Ren through his ten or so years of hellacious suffering became somewhat of a prophet. Have a nice day!

It's good to be honest. Not everybody likes everything; that's why there are genres. But every Ren song is pretty much a new genre. He has tons of singing range and and can really rap.

I had to check the running time of the video, I was expecting you to get to the mouth trumpet intro & say "straight Boo Boo" the end, But you did it & your reaction at the end was priceless, that was a good 21 minutes of my day
Part of the execution IS the fumbling and imperfection. He does these all in one take and live with only a lapel mic and natural acoustics. I understand modern hip hop fans don't appreciate artistry and story telling, you only seem to get excited when violence toward women is mentioned. He calls this Bard Rock. It's theater and music mixed with emotion. It's not made for "jamming out to", it's meant to convey a message and inflict pain in a thought provoking, artistic manner.

Fun reaction. A few little Easter eggs after hearing some interviews and live streams. 2:23 you called Jenny a profit. That's a twin sense or intuition, even though she didn't know about him. The part where Patrick and his girl were both unavailable. They were busy-together. The song was it in 2019, and he rewind to 'two-zero-zero-five' (2005, 14 years prior... Jenny and screech were both 14.). She was a street walker and he was a theif. At 14:11 he called her a slut. She was already pregnant when she met him so guess who was the father?
Also, the ghost you threw in there had me rolling, that was really funny. Only one thing bothered me, you criticized the execution, but you really have to appreciate they are all done in one take. A single uncut unedited recording from beginning to end. That's talent. Your laughing at the end was awesome!

@@MichelleShow Its a long story, but pretty much, Ren's "Sick Boi" single off of his album had a beat he bought an unlimited license for and used for the song from a guy named KujoBeats. Pretty much a no name beat creator. After Ren blew up recently, apparently it was found out that a sample on that track was stolen from some choir. Instead of taking the blame, Kujo went after Ren pretty much trying to take all of the money the song ever made. Threatened with lawyers etc, and copywrite struck the song. Literally it was 100% his own fault, but went after Ren to try to get that bag. Ren made a 30 min video about it recently, but yeah basically Ren decided to take down the song, say fuck him, and now is releasing a diss track directly towards Kujo. It releases on Thursday, and he's also recreating Sick Boi completely on his own as a big middle finger to him.

These are theatrical pieces, all filmed in one shot, in the streets of Brighton, England late at night, so the sound isn't perfect but the overall execution was amazing considering all that was involved.

I look at the tales and Hi Ren as performative art. I don't know if you've ever seen something like Shakespeare at a theatre but it has that whole theatrical performance vibe to it. I'm from the UK and studied some theatre many years ago so I recognised the presentation instantly. So no, it's not really "normal" stuff for a musician even here in the UK. 😄 My Ren recommendation for you would be Murderer.
