- Donald Trump makes a campaign stop in Bozeman Friday night, headlining a rally at Montana State University’s Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. But a visit from the former president comes with a cost.
Around the country, reports claim his campaign rarely pays invoices to local government for the increased police presence, security and other costs that come with hosting the event. Some places in Montana are still expecting payment.
Back in 2018, Trump visited Montana four times, holding rallies in Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls and Missoula.

That’s the campaign’s stance. They didn’t order extra police for their rally. They don’t care. A population polices itself. It can’t lay the responsibility of policing on the door of one individual.
The police can send a bill, but as the video states at the very end, the campaign is not legally required to pay.

The first issue here, of note and there are many, is that you'll see that they're talking about "rallies" that he held in 2018. Think about that for a second. You have a president that should be busy doing the work of the people but instead he's fleecing money from his sheep for "political rallies".

Yes, I know one generational family business that did extensive work on one of his projects and he never paid them. He destroyed their business, he bankrupted them. He stuck them with the bills for the materials and labor. They had trusted him, and thought having his project would be great for their business and did the work up front. He is not easy to sue even when you have the receipts, and back then his deadbeat ways were not widely known. I think that started changing when his campaign left entire cities holding the bag for his rally expenses. He is a horrible businessman and thoughtless, dishonest person.
I was in the Mid-Atlantic Contracting World, it was well known, that he doesn’t pay contractors. He has put many companies out of business, that ran for generations in the same families. He stiffed the company I worked for back in the early 90’s Most recently he stiffed a Major Plumbing Company in the Washington DC area.

I'm pretty sure the president isn't responsible for paying these things. It was all law enforcement related. What does that have to do with any sitting president? You don't charge the sitting president for local law enforcement to stick around and be back up to the secret Service. I don't even understand what this story has to do with Donald Trump other than he was a president at that time. So go figure out who is responsible 6 years ago. I can practically guarantee people that a sitting president is not responsible for any of these costs. Generally a sitting president doesn't even speak to SS about additional law enforcement from certain areas. Somebody didn't pay but it's nothing to do with a sitting president of any party. Now when it's a former president, then of course I believe it would be paid out of the pocket of the said former president. But it was 2018. If I was the police chief there and that city of Montana, I think most people would probably contact public officials in the state and run it up to DC. Why would Trump start paying his bills now? He has a long history of stiffing contractors on his real estate projects. It's much more profitable to not pay your bills when you know that your victim doesn't have the resources to sue (or the political will).

@@joerichardson-vi2kx Ultimately, it doesn't matter "who" ... any person, candidate, entity that books a venue for an event should have a contract with an amount to be paid including any infrastructure costs. If city/state/federal services are impacted, i.e. taxpayer money, those should be part of that contract and paid.
Ultimately, if taxpayer funded services are used and paid for by taxpayer dollars vs the "event", it is incumbent on the venue, et. al. to collect and certainly not allow a repeat offender!
