avril lavigne was absolutely dragged when she first came out. specially by rock and punk gatekeepers. it happens with every new artists, they're not truly appreciated until they are no longer brand new.
@@samuelgalea7679 She had plenty of praise just like she had haters. Remember the “I’m a rock chick” interview? That was because so many people were coming for her because of her punk inspiration. Britney had plenty of praise when she first came out just like haters as well, it’s just a cycle.
She was also considered to be a second rate Alanis Morrisette (even though they had nothing in common other than having similar-ish voices and being from Canada)
Michael Jackson was definitely an innovator. He was heavily involved in the creative process of his work, whether it was through choreo, writing and even production. He deserves all the credit for his work, and I don't think he is overrated at all.
Thank you, when she named a couple of huge artist that are influenced by Michael Jackson, she missed....Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Usher, Ciara, Chris Brown, countless of artist have been inspired by Michael Jackson and they are big now. I'm a little surprised but it is an opinion
Beyond talented. He wrote, sang, danced wonderful performer, a showman &. Also co produced his songs. He didn’t play any Instruments but he did help compose the melodies by humming and or beatboxing what he had In his head then had people produce that sound. Never will be anyone like him. Phenomenal.
“These aren’t your good ol’ days but these are somebody else’s good ol’ days.” That’s such a good statement that perfectly encapsulates the nostalgia cycle.
@@Magic-dn4yp noooo we aren’t old! But I meant it moreso as in im not gonna be the person hating on the teens who like Olivia bc I remember being a teen and made to feel bad by adults (and other teens tbh) for liking someone like Lorde for example… sure people are gonna compare the 2 to invalidate my point but I’m saying sometimes we have to remember we were in these teens’ shoes once
I think with the mj opinion, people truly forget that we have to look at the historical context behind what he did. Like when the music video for thriller came out, it truly shaped the way music videos are made/created! Like obviously yeah, if someone today were to do that, it wouldn’t be as impactful but the reason because of that is MJ!!
the president of CBS Records threatened to pull all their other artists from MTV if they continued to ignore Michael Jackson. MJ was so impactful that MTV had to get rid of their “middle america” excuse for not giving black artists airtime. that impact reaches much more than just the music industry. also, his Thriller music video cannot be understated. a 14 minute music video was unheard of at the time. video killed the radio star and Michael Jackson was a visual artist in a time where that didn’t really exist. i noticed that the commenter mentioned Madonna, but Madonna came after MJ! including Madonna basically proves how influential MJ was because her rise to fame was first cemented by him just a few years prior.
people were literally calling Madonna the female MJ when she first came out so yeah... Thriller was out in 1982 and he was already a household name by them, madonna first single came out 1983 and she wasn't really famous till 1984.
@@zenfy5814 i said her rise to fame was cemented by MJ. which is true. i never said anything about her legacy. her start in the industry and the legacy she’s left behind are two very different things. reading can be helpful at times lol
If you watch a lot of the older korean pop music videos from around 2001~2006 you'd be shocked at how many of them are pretty much direct rip offs of popular American pop music videos/concepts 💀 like they weren't even trying to hide it
And I’ll sit through both and love every second of it 😭 People want more output from their favorite artists and then complain that it’s not what they wanted exactly. If you don’t like it, don’t tune in. No one’s forcing you to.
You were also on point about "socially violent" about the stan culture. The things I see a lot of young people get away or the things they say makes me think if our empathy is getting lower and is scary. Because then you are the crazy or triggered one when you show a reasonable thought process. And get shame for it.
Outside of stan culture, I think people want that "mean girl" and "edgy boy" aesthetic and it's annoying. It's like people prioritize "one upping" someone more than informing someone. 🫤 Then you have people are just blatant ignorant and don't want to be informed. It's a whole mess.
@iameli330 yeah, I know it's a meme and a joke, I'm not offended by it. But I think we can actually analyze the whole "villain arc era" or sympathizing with villains even if they don't have good redeeming qualities. I think we as humans are obsessed with power and pushing the limit in how much you can get away with being shitty. Also it doesn't help when we see actually really few people get what they deserve or their karma. I'm talking about really shitty people who go out of their way to be problematic
People lack empathy these days. There's this "only myself matters" and/or main character mentality along with chronically online behavior and being desensitized to serious topics going on, it's kinda said and really infuriating tbh.
RE: the Michael Jackson opinion. It made me think of something that Evelyn Form the Internets said: creativity is creating something new or creating something new out of references. So even the notion that Michael Jackson used things similar to other artists does not preclude him from being an innovator. He took the same references as everyone else and gave us his spin on it i.e. he created something new out of references which is innovation. Him putting his spin on things and his skill development is a huge part of what makes him so influential.
Unpopular opinion: I used to HATE when Adele was compared or categorized with Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and even Beyoncé. She doesn’t have the range or vocal skill comparable to the others but more recently I realized she is the front runner for ballads right now. She doesn’t have the most skillful voice but the timbre of her voice is unique and she emotes so well that’s she’s put in a category with those other legendary singers.
I'm a huge fan of Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Shakira and Alicia Keys...some people think that we can only like one artist... i love music because i can like and listen to so many different artists.
Exactly I think I love music bc of the variety that exists, always something new to discover, always new artists to learn about/ parts of music history to educate myself on. Truly it’s the gift that keeps on giving
@@naomi.cannibal same! There are serious downsides in the streaming era (too much of the same stuff being pushed out by labels), a lot of which we’ve talked about, but I also love that I’m able to discover new artists across genres at the push of a button and there’s worlds of music I haven’t even touched yet!
i laugh whenever someone tells me they could only support one artist (taylor vs bey, demi vs selena), meanwhile i listen to their arts unbothered 😭 PS: YOU ARE SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL NAOMI 😭😩
The Taylor vs Bey and Demi vs Selena thing reminds me so much of back in the day when people would put BTS and EXO against each other and I was a fan of both 🤣
I completely agree with your first point observation about how millennials and older Gen Z individuals often dwell on nostalgia, reminiscent of a high school or college mentality where they prefer sticking to familiar faces rather than meeting new people in new settings. As a middle millennial, I personally enjoy the music of many new artists like Flo Milli, Glorilla, Olivia Rodrigo, etc and I love finding new music. However, what truly exemplifies this mentality is the reaction to Victoria Monet's song "On My Momma." While I love the song and admire Victoria Monet, I've noticed that most of my peers weren't familiar with her work before this track was released. Some may have only known her from the "Some Cut Challenge" she did. It's disheartening to me because Victoria Monet already has an extensive catalog and impressive songwriting credits, and we have easy access to discover new artists through social media and the internet. It seems like many of us are reluctant to embrace new artists unless they not only evoke a sense of nostalgia but also have their music forcefully promoted to some of us who are also media illiterate. Furthermore, I find it perplexing that some individuals dislike internationally popular artists like Beyonce or Taylor Swift. It's one thing for their music not to be for everyone and that's fair but this aversion often appears as if they are rebelling against the "popular kids" from their school days. It's important to note that talent isn't the issue here; rather, it seems to stem from a discomfort with the artist's widespread popularity, triggering certain personality traits or insecurities.
Took the words right out of my mouth especially on the last part I only disliked Beyoncé bc I was in my high school phase of rebelling against what was considered popular of the time and going for “the underdogs of music” it stemmed from years of being bullied for not conforming to what was the popular belief/attitude of the moment by my classmates based on my personality and favorite music genres/artists
For a while I definitely wanted to have that “not like other girls” music taste. But you realize it’s kind of pointless because you never stop liking those popular artists you just hide it (if you do like them). There’s absolutely no shame in liking something just bc a bunch of other people do, and there’s no prize for having the most indie/ niche/ deep cuts taste out there, especially if it’s just to impress other people. Like yeah I do happen to like a lot of that music but I love a ton of Beyoncé or Britney songs for example just the same
‘Music is dead’ is such a funny concept to me. People who think like that need to realize that like any form of art, music is influenced by the times, the subject matter, the influence(s), the personal life of the artist, the cultural aspect of the times they are living in and the technological advancements available to them… so many ever changing things go into creating music in general that it could never die. It can only change and evolve.
Girl I love the nuance and openness in which you approach your responses. I feel like a lot of people, especially in this ultra-digital connected world, are less willing to have a dialogue and hear each other out. Love your approach!
Honestly I feel like newer music isn’t “worse” it’s just simply the fact that ANYBODY can get attention or a level of fame now n days despite how great or mediocre they are. It’s just the times
I see it as a good thing and a bad thing, for one, there are thousands of new, innovative artist waiting to be searched that now can make a living of their music, like even the concept of comparing new artists vs old is kinda fading out bc people kinda aren't listening to the same thing anymore. But also that means that the "bar" for entrance is low, and there's less competition to be the best.
the one hit wonder thing is always on my mind but more towards stans (specifically kpop stans obv). they gotta learn to be okay with "flop" eras and comebacks not being as successful as previous ones
Yes! As long as they (fans and artist or just fan) loves it that’s all that matters. But all of us has to love it, and some of us don’t. But it’s understandable if nobody even gave the era attention it deserved.
The college mentality comparison was spot on! I think part of why people say “so and so sucks” or “this song sucks” is due to overplays and oversaturatuon of the same types of music. Due to the creation of tik tok, a lot of people are finding music on that app, and more times than not, they’re only hearing a small sample of the actual song. If you hear a song over and over again it can get annoying eventually. Then people write off entire artists when it’s really just a singular song they dislike. In my 27 years of listening to music, I find most of the “radio hits” are usually the worst songs on an artists album but they want songs that will be popular with the masses to get radio plays. I also have noticed recently, the radio stations are playing 90% of songs from the 90s and early 2000s which is interesting. Great video as always!!
Is the person who bright up Michael Jackson younger than a boomer/Gen X? Because I think those of us who are younger might not grasp how long he’s been in the industry. He was in the game for decades. He technically started before Earth, Wind, and Fire started when he was in the Jackson 5. And then he continued to grow and innovate throughout the decades. This is the hard part about the internet. It’s big and there’s lots of info and people are still saying anything without even looking things up. This is the most young person take ever. Edit: Another note is his impact on music videos. He is the reason music videos are what they are today because of Thriller. He may not have been the only person to contribute to making Thriller, but he did contribute. And although I know anyone younger than a millennial might not have experienced MTV in golden era, but the reason MTV was what it was is because of Michael Jackson. It was a huge deal because he’s Black too. Lol I feel a little triggered about the Michael Jackson comment because it’s just factually not true.
It has to be younger than millennials; we know that MJ is the reason music evolved in the first place. We could only have had BEYONCE or LEMONADE with MJ's THRILLER.
25:00 this is why I endorse celebrities suing random ppl online, y’all know how kpop companies will sue random ass commenters anytime they talk crazy about their idols, I need celebrities to start doing that, stans are way too comfortable with basically committing slander, making inflammatory posts and trying to ruin ppls lives and getting away with doing it bc they know they can and get satisfaction out of making ppl miserable, which is why fandom culture online is so hostile and toxic, there’s basically no consequences for anything, the most that’ll happen is that they’re account gets deleted but it’s not like they’re facing any repercussions irl, Cardi B kinda set the precedent for that lawsuit that she won, but I need more celebrities to start doing this, shaming ppl into not being bullies isn’t going to work, either sue them or drag tf outta them
Free speech is a huge deal, that's why it's so hard to sue and win a libel case. There has to be proof of it affecting your career. Which Hailey beiber might have a case for that with stans. But I think it'd be too hard to pick out one person, also that'd turn into celebrities punishing poor people really quickly. Fun idea, doesn't work in execution
Yeah.... don't think the person livveedd enough to understand the impact the albums these ladies had. Also mentioning traditional R&B albums not living up to "Pop Success" opinion will always fall flat due to the fact that genre faded out of popularity in the mid 2000s
@@kierrastewart627right and it’s interesting bc Alicia was one of the last R&B artists still achieving major success towards the end of the 2000s when the genre popularity was officially deceased it was really after girl on fire that she achieved a significant decline in mainstream popularity
One of the most significant differences between today and the 90s, aside from a few other changes, is our unprecedented access to artists and music. In the past, we eagerly anticipated each album release, as it took years for artists like Janet and Brandy to drop new music, often waiting every second or fourth year. However, today, our increased access to a multitude of artists simultaneously can make everything seem somewhat monotonous and unexciting.
I feel like with the nostalgia aspect and hearing new artists, it’s very apparent now who’s putting the effort and passion into their work and who’s only doing it as a cash grab to get a check outside of TikTok. When Olivia dropped Drivers License I knew she was gonna be a permanent resident in the music industry, whereas the D’amelio sisters can drop some singles bc they have the funding to do so and have the followers who want to support their fave creators to stream it.

So glad you touched on the creativity vs innovation. Pulling something out of your ass that’s never been done before. That’s invention. Innovation can be built on something that already exists. Michael has been dead for almost 15 years. Always comes up in these sort of conversations and has touched so many of the artists we have today. To say he’s not innovative and the king of pop is sorta wild lol.
i think people should be given room to grow and get better at their craft, but a lot of people don't put in that work ... and many don't have to. i think that's where racism and colorism comes into the conversation, especially with the ice spice and mariah the scientist mentions. ice spice and mts wouldn't have gotten as far as they did if they weren't lightskin/biracial. they wouldn't have had the backing they did (when the men on twitter were being weird with ice spice and #thegirls had to rally behind her + people calling fab socialism mean for that mariah video) if they were darkskin. they wouldn't be allowed to be mediocre, and continue to be mediocre, if they were darkskin.
I keep heaeing about this Mariah the scientologist girl and I'm confused. Is she a singer ? A rnb artist, a pop artist or a jazz ? What's her genre ? She's not charting anywhere and I've never heard her music being played anywhere euther but ppl keep complaining about her as if she was pushed like a Saweetie or a Cassie but still flopped
Unpopular opinion: Yes Beyonce was favored in Destiny's Child and yes the other group members were not treated as fairly but in all reality she did have the most star power and I feel like deep down all the other girls knew which is why some of them did not make a big deal about it.
Also Kelly Rowland had the biggest potential after the group disbanded in 2002 with dilemma but I genuinely feel like she capitalized off of that success the way she should have, however, she is a dark-sinned women in an industry that is very colorist so that could have had a part to play in it to.
@@voltagetruin4099Dillema was number 1 the day I was born lol. People often forget that Kelly had her #1 before Beyoncé (who's first single flopped btw). Also, the other DC members have commented on how Beyoncé just had a lot more drive than them since literal childhood. So I think they feel as if her rise was almost inevitable because she worked so hard for it.
@@voltagetruin4099sometimes we can’t use colorism’s as a excuse, I feel like if you wanna be on top you gotta be consistent for example Normani she literally got praised by a lot of celebrities just for her to be lazy and uninteresting in music but honestly if she was consistent she maybe would’ve be up there
Letoya said Beyonce used to stay back to work and other girls would leave because they believed she was doing too much. Beyonce said she couldn't let her parents money waste on her. She had to be prefect.
The point you made about not every artist needs to be an innovator had to be said. You can be extremely creative and executed very well common concepts. Also, being influential does not equal innovator. a lot of innovators tend to be in the shadows until a shiny figure comes in and makes it popular.
I am part of the “music sounds the same now and days opinions” sometimes. I think artists like Olivia Rodrigo get overlooked because we are constantly bombarded with the same type of music all of the time and the creative artists go under the radar.
The first topic kinda reminded me of something I started doing at the start of this decade. I saw an article saying people stop trying to find new music by age twenty five and will stick to the music they grew up with, so with me approaching that age this decade it kinda scared me, so I started listening to any album that I see has released that year and rank them (the ranking isn’t necessary but it keeps me motivated to continue listening to new artists). There’s so much music out there that is so good, and so undiscovered, but also listening to artists or genres you don’t enjoy, but still listening to their newer work later on is such a fun experience. I didn’t think Olivia’s music was for me with the first album (that album still isn’t for me), but listening to the one that dropped this year was fun and I enjoyed it a lot. I still can’t relate to most of it, but I enjoy seeing her growth as an artists. She’s one of many artists that I’ve had a change of heart with since starting this
Wow! I’ve been challenging myself to do the same (I’m 25) because I notice myself slipping into the artists I’m only familiar with. Making videos has helped a ton but I will definitely try to join you on this albums challenge ♥️ I love this idea
Toxic fandoms definitely aren't just in the realm of pop music. I'm thinking of Gamergate and the bullying Kelly Marie Tran from Star Wars faced online. You're absolutely right that people say some crazy stuff because they can hide behind their keyboard.
I SAY IT WITH MY WHOLE CHEST: Namor was FULLY trying to smash Shuri in Wakanda Forever .When he took her on the tour of Talokan. NO ONE can tell me different. That man was whispering in her ear, getting the kids tol say hi to her, wore his nice crown, gave her his MOTHER's bracelet. He was trying to get some or possibly court her for a posible marriage alliance. If things hadn't gone down the way they did he would have tried it.
About songs being shorter people forget a lot of songs from the 60s think early Supremes music are under 3 minutes long so in a way we’re actually returning to form instead of “regression”
It was bc of radio formats and edits not due to shorter attention spam in the age of internet and streaming. The songs got longer by the late 60s early 70s. Now you just need a 30 second clip from tiktok to go viral abd get a hit even if the rest of the song is not well structured. Those Motown hit songs were incredibly well written by some of the best songwritters in music history from Smokey Robinson, Norman Whitefield, Barret Strong to Holland Dozier Holland. These songs had a hook, 3 verses a bridge and a vamp. Now you barely get any of that
What I noticed is that the person said Michael Jackson was influential in his style more than sound, and then all the examples you gave to say he was influential we’re about his style. Like the dance moves and the glove and outfits
Demi put out an album AND toured. Holy Fvck was an amazing album I think!! And her Re-Vamped is good too. She changed up the songs to rock, changed the notes, made them harder to sing than before. Lol. And the Michael thing, he was a once in a lifetime artist. He made a impact. I think a lot of his popularity was his nostalgia from being in the Jackson 5. A lot of die hard Michael Jackson fans I knew were around for that whole thing. But he still was iconic.
I think the Michael Jackson opinion is definitely one of my favorites from this entire series. In a way, I kinda feel that you inadvertently strengthened their statement about his aesthetic and imagery being more influential than his overall sound. It's definitely a topic for music fans to consider more.
Yessss definitely reflecting and realize I understood OP more than I thought I did! But still glad for the chance to mention impact/ inspiration can be just as important as innovation
No his shamones and hiccups are iconic, and a lot of smaller artist did try to add his musical mannerisms into their music in the past. But the reason they probably stayed small is bc they were relying too much on his music sound and image rather than making their own. But he has definitely influenced masses musically
Y’all are weird. If Michael’s sound was so non-compelling, then why is it still so easy to listen to in 2023 without sounding dated? Michael was the model pop star in the sense that he made sure his music didn’t align TOO much with the music of the time period. It may have fit but was thoughtfully created to not sound *exactly* like the time period. It’s the same thing Beyonce was careful to do with her first 2 albums. There was a clear pop sound in the early 2000s (think Britney, Backstreet Boys, Christina etc), but Beyoncé made sure her productions didn’t align strictly with those sounds which is why it still sounds fresh today. Human Nature could be released today (and it’s still being sampled in an obvious way to this day), Dirty Diana could be released today, Butterflies could be released today (not THAT old in the grand scheme but…it’s still 22 years), The Lady in My Life…. I think that’s where his innovation is….lots of classic hits that we love to this day very much sound like the time period they came from but Michael was able to ascend that. With all respect, this argument would apply to Whitney FAR more than Michael.
@@korykent5645 I don't think anyone said that the music wasn't compelling and I 100% agree that a lot of his discography has aged wonderfully. I'm still firm in agreeing with the original opinion from the video though. Thanks for commenting!
@@bobsburgers8497 Shamone is from The Staples song I'll Take You There. That's where MJ got if from. It wasn't original and some of his of his ad-libs like the hee-hee came from Diana Ross The Boss album circa 1979
As a metal fan, I find the whole discussion about song lengths interesting. I think it’s different for bands because if a song is 8 minutes (e.g. Sleep Token’s Take Me Back to Eden, Lorna Shore’s 3-part 15 minute Pain Remains Trilogy, Architect’s Memento Mori), there isn’t just singing, there will be a solo, a breakdown, a drum solo or whatever. I think for a singer who may not also be an instrumentalist, I can understand that writing songs that are 5+ minutes is a lot because there could be an expectation for them to sing for a lot of it, whereas bands have 4-5 members generally, so the longer songs means everyone is able to have a moment to shine, to a degree. Additionally, in metal, breakdowns are just normal so that always adds time towards the end of a song. I understand that 2 and a half minutes is super short, but I also understand that whilst I love when my favourite bands do a song that is 8 minutes it doesn’t feel as long as if a pop artist does because structurally speaking, metal is just written differently and has a different formula. Sorry this is a bit of a ramble, I just find the idea interesting . (Also, that’s not to say metal songs are NEVER short. Knocked Loose’s Counting Worms is like a minute long and is basically just a breakdown, but it’s their most played song on Spotify)
This is a great point! Like you said a lot of those older breaks were for instrument solos… and I’m sure on average less artists and people in general play instruments, so I’m sure you’re on to something!
About the MJ opinion, I ask my mom who is 61 years old and live through that era, If there where anyone with the same style of music as MJ before or during his days, and she told me know, she told me he pretty much invested the genre. So that's something to keep in mind.
Popular opinion: you’re a great UA-cam who comes off very authentic. I also think you’re an important voice that brings out thoughtful conversions on pop culture without being preachy or too silly. And you know it resonates on a human level because of how diverse your subscribers are. I love It, and thanks for all the work you do!
Love the channel, but that third opinion about one album/hit wonders got me effed up because why did they include Alicia Keys/Erykah Badu when they both have SEVERAL acclaimed albums/songs.
Truly I don’t know but I think they were saying (other than Lauryn) those artists have one album they’re mostly known for which idk if that necessarily true really. But my response to it was just in general
The whole stan culture always interested me. Not with people doxing/doing illegal things, but even with the way people online react to people's opinions where they might say they don't like a certain artist. Almost all the time, the stans will kinda lash out or go crazy. I feel like it's mostly because of parasocial relationships, and those people might not really have friends or loving family that they look up to, and they have to fill that void somehow. I really just feel bad nowadays when I see this. It's a really dark subject that I feel should be studied deeper by professionals tbh.
Hey! I'm new here and don't really understand how this works specifically but I feel like we've created a warped view of African American culture and the black experience in music and other areas. I personally feel like a lot of songs now discuss drugs, sex, gangs, and violence (when most haven't experienced it to that extent) blocking the view of other parts of the black experience. I just feel like you have rappers like Kendrick who give an authentic take with those who don't yet it took forever and a day for him to get the needed aknowledgement. Not to mention (I hate being this person) theres just so much more to our culture than shootings and heartbreak. I feel like I'm not explaining it right but I want more Lauryn Hills and Kendricks.
when you asked what makes old music better than new music, it made me form the thought that artists should bring back music from the 2010s. i feel like that was the best era and for music and everyone enjoyed it. like party music, it was very fun and lighthearted and we need that again.
My only thing is that if somebody gives Beyoncé or somebody else credit for being a stand out musician amongst their peers, people will say they’re overrated and not that talented. But when it’s Michael he’s somehow untouchable. Obviously nobody in pop has impact to scale but there are literally artists who do the same things yet they’re somehow not good or overrated? It’s just hypocritical
What are some of the things that they do that are comparable to MJ? Even you admit in your post that they didn't do it to the scale of MJ. That's what makes him untouchable.
@@kingslayer1887 people literally were on Twitter saying Michael is a better vocalist than Beyoncé and that’s just one thing. Like idc how much you like him but that’s not true. He can’t be better than her as a vocalist but somehow she’s overrated… like what would that make him???
@@georgia_amoorefan The same thing can be said of Beyonce. However, the reason why MJ is lauded is because nobody can do everything together better than him, so there may be people who are better at individual things than him, but now put together.
@@kingslayer1887but that’s my point. People already shit on Beyonce, Prince, and more for things that I think they do just as well, if not better than MJ. He’s obviously the most impactful nobody is arguing that. It’s just his fans make him out to be leagues above others when it comes to composing, songwriting, etc. when that’s not the case.
my opinion is and i strongly believe it, is that when people say “all modern music sounds then same.” they mean the 2 genres they listen to, they only listen to 2 genres if i’m being generous and that’s why it all sounds the same. Maybe with modern mainstream radio and retail music it sounds similar at best but that’s because those platforms have a specific sound and vibe they pick. I honestly stand ten toes in the ground when i say modern music is more diverse than it has ever been in the history of music. there are so many genres and something for everyone and every mood and situation. one specific genre that i like that is having a small resurgence in minority/ethnic music maker community is the mashup of modern pop sounds and their cultural music, like for example “Burn it to the ground by Shreea Kaul”. outside of that there are other forms of music fusion, like another example is a punk style rapper called Lesane, he fuses pop and punk which might not be new but it’s different from what everyone calls “the same sound”. There plenty more examples of experimental sounds and modern songs in and outside of the mainstream but people let the radio pick their playlists and don’t explore on their own. saying “all modern music sounds the same” to me is basically just saying you only listen to basically one genre and don’t explore. there are plenty of options, pop, hyper pop, indie, soul, kpop, latin pop, afro beats. etc and even in a single genre there is so much variety, like even in kpop or afro beats there’s such a variety, there’s something for everyone. you might not like bts or black pinks sound, okay there’s day6, akmu, ailee, dean ans so much more. there’s something for everyone. also modern and new music coming out doesn’t take away your older music, it’s still there, i often revisit older songs, some even way before my grandparents were born. please people expand in your tastes, if you need suggestions on where to start and go there are plenty of people to ask.
About the kpop rappers, regardless of them sounding good or not, if they don't write their own raps I don't consider them real rappers. Ofc being able to deliver what is written for you is a skill within itself, and I am in no way saying that there isn't talent or potential present, but rap is an artform like anything else. You must develop it to get better at your craft, but with the way the idol industry is set up it's more about marketability than artistic authenticity. And regarding the english lyrics, it can be cringe to those that have English as their first language bc we understand the nuance and slang, but I don't take it super seriously.
Demi's Holy** album was great and an in depth look at her trauma which people should definitely listen to. I also love her revamped album because I'm a lover of old Demi music and every single song HIT!!
as a songwriter the one thing that i’ve come to realize when studying hits and trying to understand what separates a lot of music nowadays from back then is the relatability aspect of them & open interpretation. when you hear a song like “i wanna dance with somebody” not only is it a feel good song, but it doesn’t have a direct audience. both men & women can listen, feel acknowledged/empowered and the sound can be appreciated by all ages. and not only that, but people actually related to the artists more; a lot of them have went to normal schools before or have worked normal jobs so their experiences were a lot more relatable & that stuff reflects in your work. also things were a lot more coded or arranged to be more palatable for a broader audience. now that a lot of people are just more blatant about their sexuality, there’s some people not okay with it. a good example is how less received sam smith is now vs. when he was less hyper-sexual. there’s a fine line between art & antics and you really just have to find a good balance between them while still being unapologetic about your work despite opinions.
The first one I think is important but also in a similar argument, I do think sometimes when you are way into nostalgia it can cloud your judgement to appreciating new music from an artist who you are nostalgic for, like if Britney or beyonce or jlo, or Madonna etc, has new music people either don’t give it a chance or don’t want to and cling to the hit singles and that’s it when respectfully sometimes their newer music that isn’t much of a “hit” are often better representations of them as artists especially more currently
I don’t want to go to deep into the Michael Jackson thing because that man literally broke down so many barriers it would take all day. HOWEVER music videos are literally what they are because of him, it was his concept to have “short films” as videos. He wanted to take it further than just the normal videos, i also feel like him being a black man is overlooked, i don’t think ppl understand what he did made it possible for a lot of black artists to basically do what they do today. Michael Jackson and Prince were the first black artists to have videos on MTV. That is a HUGE deal. I think ppl like to downplay because they want to deny he’s the greatest I also want to touch on the Earth Wind and Fire reject comment. After Thriller Michael did New Jack Swing and Bad is considered a “pop” album. Then there’s also Invincible and Blood on the dance floor. Im wondering has the commentor actually listened to Michaels music and the complexity or did they stop at Thriller? Michaels sound has been copied since he became a big star, people all over the world have tried to replicate him, and not just his image but his SOUND. Nobody sounds like him, he also had a fantastic voice that i think ppl sleep on. The comment seemed like someone who has thought through their opinion but also seemed to have biases and has not actually LISTENED or watched Michael and what he did for music forreal. I said i wouldn’t go on and on but i can’t help it i been watching Michael since i was 5 and I’m 28. So one last thing, Michael told Queen that “Another one bites the dust” was a hit. They weren’t going to use it. If you notice that song sounds like Billie Jean. I’m saying that to say MUSICALLY Michael had an ear, he may not have even able to play instruments professionally BUT that man heard it in his head and then executed it or told other ppl how. That’s talent, the IT factor and being musically inclined is so slept on in todays world.
I just wanna comment that I hate how people still really hate on Demi because of the frozen yogurt thing from 2019 while artists who are actual criminals (either for beating their wives or being straight up racist) are still praised by a vast majority of people
I have mixed feelings on the Micheal Jackson opinion because while I do get that he might not have had the most complex discography I do find it a little disrespectful that the commenter just regarded it as Earth, Wind, & Fire rejects when a lot of his music holds up so well today than when it was first released. The reason he’s the king of pop isn’t just because of his dance moves and what he did with music videos or breaking racial barriers it was because he has some of the best polished pop songs of all time. But I do agree that maybe discography wise it’s not as strong as some of his contemporaries. One discussion that I keep seeing on twitter is that Janet has more of the interesting and or better discography than Michael does and I do somewhat agree.
I think It's bc MJ wanted to duplicate the success of Thriller for a long time but the bar was set too high while Janet was able to explore and take more risks without the pressure of alienating the masses in the same way MJ felt. That's also why a lot of ppl feel like her Control/Rhythm Nation 1814/Janet/The Velvet Rope run is stronger than Off The Wall/Thriller/Bad/Dangerous. Janet kept growing, evolving and innovating while MJ became more predictable, formulaic and ended up following trends like the New Jack Swing sound with Dangerous. Janet was a precursor of the New Jack Swing sound in the 80s with songs like Nasty and The Velvet Rope is one of the foundational album of the alternative/dark moody rnb of the early 2010s with the likes of The Weeknd
@@AngeBiampandou Exactly! I think even Michael got the inspiration for the Dangerous album from Janet because of what she was doing on “RN” and the “J” album. It's sad because Michael’s success was a blessing and curse for him in so many ways. That's why I believe that no artist should ever have that much fame again because it's very limiting for art to be made.
i think when it comes to liking longer songs, it actually depends on how the song is structured and the way the artist and producers manage to make that time count. if you make a 2:30 minute song that makes me crave more instead of leaving a sense of completion within me, then i know you did something wrong (because i don't play them multiple times lol). besides, more songs could use outros and instrumental breaks which amp up their runtime without us getting insanely long verses. come on, give me a little dance break!!
I think peer reviews/voting (having artists and genuinely knowledgeable critics voting) for award shows makes the most sense to me. Maybe each year, a roundup of 20 anonymous people (switched out each year and picked as late as possible so no one can do the politics thing) from all different genres and time periods and markets voting on whose ARTISTRY is actually the best. There's negatives to this, of course because artists can be ego driven or friends with nominees but it seems better than popularity contest fan voting or political board voting.
Funny you mention that bc a friend and I were talking more about this and though that idea might work too, but I guess there will never be a way to make award’s completely fair
The first opinion is so valid. Stans LOVE to rewrite history and pretend that all of the pop stars of yesteryear were universally loved and adored by everyone when that is just not true. Each and every last one of them were dragged to the pits of hell and called untalented or overrated or much worse. Rihanna especially, I see her lauded by current pop culture circles as this untouchable goddess who was worshipped by the world over since day 1 when that is such a fucking lie lmfao. She used to be a punching bag for everyone, especially the BeyHive. People were on her ass saying that she couldn't sing, couldn't dance, didn't know how to write music, etc. and that she was essentially an overhyped model who was nothing more than Jay-Z's studio creation, a reputation she didn't shake until ANTi. Hell, just a couple of days ago, I saw a stan say that Olivia Rodrigo is nowhere near as talented as Hilary Duff. I love Hilary but I'm DYING at the idea of her being "more talented" than 90% of people who ever got signed to a record deal
I've always hated this, "pick one artist or the other". It was a thing with BSB vs NSYNC, Britney vs Christina, and now it's still a thing with Taylor vs Beyonce and Olivia vs whomever. Fun Fact... most of us like all the artists, I bought them all... BSB, NSYNC, Britney, Xtina, Taylor, and Beyonce. Okayyyyy.
You’re so right! In real life I’ve found it’s more common that people generally like most of the artists rather than this “pick a side” mentality, esp if they’re working in the same genre
@naomi.cannibal it's the media and the Super fans (Stans) who make this idea stick. Like yes, since concerts are super expensive now I'll only be going to 1 or 2 a year. But that's NOT because I wouldn't want to. It's costs. If tickets were cheap, I'd be seeing everybody.
That's true. I remember back in the day when Alicia keys first blew up. They put her against Aguilera. You were seen as "uncool" if you picked Christina. So stupid looking back lol
I know my sister and I both listened and loved all the music artists you listed. Even if I did have a slight preference like I liked NSYNC's music more than BSB but I listened to both groups.
@crystalsnow1138 exactly. I liked BSB a little more, but you bet your last dollar I was JAMMING to NSYNC all the time too. And 98 degrees, and LFO, and Otown, and Hanson, and and and.
The thing you said about Michael is so true though. Even if an artist we listen to is not directly inspired by Michael, the odds of them being inspired by someone else who got a lot of inspiration from Michael are insanely high, which make the artist we actually listen to inspired by MJ indirectly (I hope this comment doesn't sound as confusing for you guys reading as it sounds for me while writing lol)
the innovator thing is SO true, the amount of criticism i’ve seen directed at artists for not being ‘innovative’ is crazy, like an artist does not need to be completely groundbreaking and re invent a genre to be good and that’s a ridiculous standard to hold them to, sometimes they’re just amazing at what they do 🤷 edit: also the michael jackson one, i feel like he definitely is and icon and influential but i’m SICK of people comparing every single artist to him as some sort of objective measurement of their success😭 like no not every popular artist is ‘the new michael jackson’ they’re their own person!!! and holding them to the standards of his success or they’re ‘not actually that popular’ is unnecessary as well 😭
Girl, I was just going to comment on your last video. You said you liked watching celebrity interviews and I like watching u! You are awesome!! You’re so great at your craft and literally look forward to your uploads 🥰 Can’t wait to watch 🥰 Have a great day
Okay but that was a bit of a jump though. When people say they want longer songs, they typically mean 3-4 minutes not 5-7 😭 like I don’t want 1-2 minute songs, I just want 3-4.
@@naomi.cannibal You ever heard take your time do it right by SOS band? That song is 7+mins and it's fire. The groove is infectious, it could go on longer if it wanted.
Michael Jackson, often referred to as the "King of Pop", is credited with several musical and entertainment innovations: 1. **Record-Breaking Album Sales**: Starting with "Off the Wall" in 1979 and particularly with "Thriller", Jackson sold LPs, CDs, and videos in such enormous numbers that Time magazine called him "a one-man rescue team for the music business"¹. He ushered in a new era of gigantic sellers¹. 2. **Music Videos**: The music video for "Thriller" changed the way the music industry produced and promoted new releases³. It was one of the most expensive music videos ever produced at the time it was released³. 3. **MTV**: He became the dominant star on MTV, which rarely showed videos from African-American performers at the time¹. By making movement, dance, image, and video central to a pop performer's repertoire, he altered the pop vocabulary and made MTV, rather than radio, the uniting force in the musical landscape¹. 4. **Dance Techniques**: With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk⁵. These dance moves impacted several young artists who sought to emulate their idol⁵. 5. **Transforming Performances**: His performances were transformative and changed popular culture and the entertainment industry¹. These are just a few of the ways Michael Jackson revolutionized the music industry. His influence continues to be felt today.. Also, internationally - from Bollywood to K-Pop the movements and musical choices can be seen and heard. I wanted to share the above to make this more than just a personal take -- as I was born in the 70s and lived through his mega stardom in the 80s. I can probably even say the rise of lip-syncing is due to his extensive use (as his highly technical and demanding dance performances required it). Will there be a time where his influence isn't as obvious? Sure, but we don't discredit Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven for not being innovative and influential just because you don't directly hear their music in what many people are listening to. Song structure, songwriting, and stylistic inflections are not the best measure of influence -- only the more obvious ones. This is because pop music follows very limited time signatures and chord progressions (see people trying to sue for plagiarism in bad faith all the time).
I have no idea how I never put Avril and Olivia in the same category but damn that person is absolutely right. I’m 30 and I’m such a big fan of Olivia reinventing what I got to have when I was a teenager. I’ve talked about this on my podcast and my friends podcast recently where my generation is so obsessed with gatekeeping what we had as teenagers and kids and don’t want gen z to have anything like we did and it’s so stupid lol I love the reinvention of stuff that worked decades ago, Avril’s music is iconic, there will never be another Avril but she wasn’t the first teenage girl to make angsty music, she was never going to be the last. Let people have fun!!!!!
Also exactly what you said about “not everything is for you” because it’s true! Like me and my friend talked about when we were young fest last year and how pop punk revival is a little weird but also how a lot of shit coming out isn’t for us, 30 year old adults lol Olivia Rodrigo and Billie eilish aren’t making music for me, and that’s perfectly fine, I’m glad gen z has these artists because their music fucks and I would’ve been having a great time if I had them in my teen years
About the kpop Rappers, isnt it also a thing that if you are good in english its more likely you have a rapping position or get trained in it? I know the whole they-can-sing-good-but-not-great so lets make them a rapper and sub vocal is a bit over the top and not entirely true but still some companies have questionable ways of choosing/training rappers their rappers
I’m actually not sure! But I could see that since often the raps include a lot of English words/ phrases, sometimes the most on the song other than maybe the chorus
DAM good vid. That 1 hit wonder take was WILD lol They didn't intend to be 1 hit wonders. The 90's is full of horrible artist contract stories, label disputes, artists going through personal issues, etc. and usually it has more to do with label friction than an artist going "yup just here to do Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and I'm out!" 😂
My issue with Olivia is that her early work seems to be copying other people. To me all her music sounds like other music, but thankfully her latest album is a little less everyone else and seems to be more her, less inspired by x,y,z. So I hope she continues to improve. I think she'll grow into a fine artist.
22:02 I would add to the fact that currently, these crazy fanatics are actively devoted & wear being a "stan" on their sleeve. NORMALIZING the concept of being downright horrible human being. Cogs in a machine. Making everyone dehumanized to the idea of this occurring, that or of that dehumanization going on younger.
reasons Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, because he brings different Demographics from different Genres and He demolished segregation in Music and unites listeners, most people who critics Michael Jackson never listen to his whole music discography let’s be honest
Especially the see through dresses when you can see their underwear. Everyone and their mom has worn that now and it has gotten so boring. It kind of reminded me of how much I love Janelle Monae's red carpet outfits because they are always creative and fun and I also love how open they are about nudity and sexuality in their music and daily life. Idk why but that juxtaposition mixed with the fact that they always slay a red carpet look makes it so cool and interesting. Celebs use nudity as a way to enhance their sex appeal and it doesn't work all the time because at the end of the day nudity isn't inherently sexual so it doesn't work and it just ends up being boring. Why can't different award shows just have different criteria for awarding artists? And be open about their criteria. Like Grammys, they have their own way. Vmas can focus on music videos and the visual aspect of music. But also why can't they all focus on celebrating the year of music we've had???? I wish award shows were more of a celebration of music instead of getting a piece of plastic, i mean that's a part of it but i want grand performances and fun.
Hi, just here to say you have a Brazilian fan in me. ❤️ I really enjoy your videos, how you expose your opinions and just your overall vibe. Thanks for all the content and keep up with the good work. 😁
I love the level of consideration you give with each hot take and how you explore them, the fact that you get sad to put them in a category shows how much you care about music!
I always want to do a video of MY unpopular opinions but I can never think of any… but then sometimes y’all submit some that are also mine… one of my friends just keeps his in a notes app I might have to start lmao
avril lavigne was absolutely dragged when she first came out. specially by rock and punk gatekeepers. it happens with every new artists, they're not truly appreciated until they are no longer brand new.
Thanks! I couldn’t say I knew it for a fact but knowing how the world works I was sure it was a safe bet lmao
I don’t think that’s true
I remember her being praised for being anti Britney actually
@@samuelgalea7679the both are right
@@samuelgalea7679 She had plenty of praise just like she had haters.
Phenomenal.
He did write plenty. He didn’t wrote. Every song but he did write.
Beyoncé also.
@@GladToBeNatural doing pop pretty much means you’re inspired by michael jackson since he set the standard.
“These aren’t your good ol’ days but these are somebody else’s good ol’ days.” That’s such a good statement that perfectly encapsulates the nostalgia cycle.
That just makes me feel old though & im only 23 lol 🥲 I’m still tryna have good ol days what the heckk
Thriller was out in 1982 and he was already a household name by them, madonna first single came out 1983 and she wasn't really famous till 1984.
not to mention, she sampled the baseline of billie jean for her song like a virgin which is basically what helped her pop off, so 🤷🏽♀️
That’s a bold lie, Madonna cemented her own legacy
@@zenfy5814 i said her rise to fame was cemented by MJ. which is true. i never said anything about her legacy. her start in the industry and the legacy she’s left behind are two very different things. reading can be helpful at times lol
If you watch a lot of the older korean pop music videos from around 2001~2006 you'd be shocked at how many of them are pretty much direct rip offs of popular American pop music videos/concepts 💀 like they weren't even trying to hide it
Lol my fave is the I’ll Be There video clearly *heavily* being inspired by the No Scrubs vid
Lee Hyori’s Ten Minutes video is pretty heavily inspired by JLO and Ja Rule’s music video for I’m Real, though I kind of love it
If y’all can sit through all the Taylor versions, we can sit through one Demi revamp
Facts
And I’ll sit through both and love every second of it 😭
People want more output from their favorite artists and then complain that it’s not what they wanted exactly. If you don’t like it, don’t tune in. No one’s forcing you to.
And Demi changed the versions, added more powerful vocals. I think she did a really great work with this new revamped album.
THANK YOU!!!!! They think Taylor is the pentacle of music.
@pettylisa5599 before Taylor there was Jojo re-recording her old hits
There's this "only myself matters" and/or main character mentality along with chronically online behavior and being desensitized to serious topics going on, it's kinda said and really infuriating tbh.
can we all take a second and just appreciate the beautiful naomi?! that shirt is so gorgeous with your eyes and your complexion! 💚🫶🏼

This! She’s the master of her craft and bursted through the “everyone must run” mentality. She’s power and emotion and I just love that so much.

Like yeah I do happen to like a lot of that music but I love a ton of Beyoncé or Britney songs for example just the same
U ate this
‘Music is dead’ is such a funny concept to me.
A little nuance never hurt nobody
Thank you! And truly rarely are things black or white esp w stuff like music
Honestly I feel like newer music isn’t “worse” it’s just simply the fact that ANYBODY can get attention or a level of fame now n days despite how great or mediocre they are. It’s just the times
It is worse but not because they're bad song it's because they kinda made for the internet not for people. They made for consuming.
It is worse sadly
But it’s understandable if nobody even gave the era attention it deserved.
exactly, and the “flop” determination is always made by numbers only
Ajaaaa? Didn’t expect you to also watch Naomi.
I agree as a gen z Micheal Jackson fan since I was a kid loo
Lmao same, idk what that comment was on about
It has to be younger than millennials; we know that MJ is the reason music evolved in the first place. We could only have had BEYONCE or LEMONADE with MJ's THRILLER.
The person said SONICALLY not his image, dance moves or music videos
@@AngeBiampandouyes, and sonically, he was still on the forefront on trends and making history
Calling Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and Erykah Badu “one album artists” is so crazy I’m flabbergasted and shook 🫣
Well Lauryn technically does only have one album, the others very much don’t

Yeah.... don't think the person livveedd enough to understand the impact the albums these ladies had.

And Erykah Badu too😭
One of the most significant differences between today and the 90s, aside from a few other changes, is our unprecedented access to artists and music.
The K-pop rap take was real. Can’t tell you how many times I completely stopped listening to a group where they think talking with a

Oh u ate that. Innovation vs invention is something that I never thought of
i think people should be given room to grow and get better at their craft, but a lot of people don't put in that work ... and many don't have to. i think that's where racism and colorism comes into the conversation, especially with the ice spice and mariah the scientist mentions. ice spice and mts wouldn't have gotten as far as they did if they weren't lightskin/biracial. they wouldn't have had the backing they did (when the men on twitter were being weird with ice spice and #thegirls had to rally behind her + people calling fab socialism mean for that mariah video) if they were darkskin. they wouldn't be allowed to be mediocre, and continue to be mediocre, if they were darkskin.
Seriously like her creativity and marketing genius gets disregarded because she's "some pop icon like all the others"

Internet has made some people way too comfortable with doing and saying horrible things without any consequences
If things hadn't gone down the way they did he would have tried it.
i thought that too😭
About songs being shorter people forget a lot of songs from the 60s think early Supremes music are under 3 minutes long so in a way we’re actually returning to form instead of “regression”
Like the dance moves and the glove and outfits
the random food debates are one of my favorite things about your channel 😭

Calling Michael Jackson a EWF reject is WILD
About the MJ opinion, I ask my mom who is 61 years old and live through that era, If there where anyone with the same style of music as MJ before or during his days, and she told me know, she told me he pretty much invested the genre. So that's something to keep in mind.

EDM was so popular, it felt like everyone was doing that style

You’re 10000% right. Holy F is really her magnum opus imo. She’s such a great and always evolving artist.
as a songwriter the one thing that i’ve come to realize when studying hits and trying to understand what separates a lot of music nowadays from back then is the relatability aspect of them & open interpretation. when you hear a song like “i wanna dance with somebody” not only is it a feel good song, but it doesn’t have a direct audience. both men & women can listen, feel acknowledged/empowered and the sound can be appreciated by all ages. and not only that, but people actually related to the artists more; a lot of them have went to normal schools before or have worked normal jobs so their experiences were a lot more relatable & that stuff reflects in your work. also things were a lot more coded or arranged to be more palatable for a broader audience. now that a lot of people are just more blatant about their sexuality, there’s some people not okay with it. a good example is how less received sam smith is now vs. when he was less hyper-sexual. there’s a fine line between art & antics and you really just have to find a good balance between them while still being unapologetic about your work despite opinions.
I love this unpopular opinion vids🤌🤌💖💖💖
Thank you!! Love hearing yalls thoughts
The first one I think is important but also in a similar argument, I do think sometimes when you are way into nostalgia it can cloud your judgement to appreciating new music from an artist who you are nostalgic for, like if Britney or beyonce or jlo, or Madonna etc, has new music people either don’t give it a chance or don’t want to and cling to the hit singles and that’s it when respectfully sometimes their newer music that isn’t much of a “hit” are often better representations of them as artists especially more currently
your face card!! top tier!
Thank you bestiiie
I don’t want to go to deep into the Michael Jackson thing because that man literally broke down so many barriers it would take all day. HOWEVER music videos are literally what they are because of him, it was his concept to have “short films” as videos. He wanted to take it further than just the normal videos, i also feel like him being a black man is overlooked, i don’t think ppl understand what he did made it possible for a lot of black artists to basically do what they do today. Michael Jackson and Prince were the first black artists to have videos on MTV. That is a HUGE deal. I think ppl like to downplay because they want to deny he’s the greatest
I also want to touch on the Earth Wind and Fire reject comment.
There is stuff out there to research from the past and artists like Michael Jackson.
Michael Jackson couldn't really pull off being "sexy" and I think that has a lot to do with why her music is more interesting
That's why I believe that no artist should ever have that much fame again because it's very limiting for art to be made.
saying Alicia keys is a one hit/album artist is crazy
i think when it comes to liking longer songs, it actually depends on how the song is structured and the way the artist and producers manage to make that time count. if you make a 2:30 minute song that makes me crave more instead of leaving a sense of completion within me, then i know you did something wrong (because i don't play them multiple times lol). besides, more songs could use outros and instrumental breaks which amp up their runtime without us getting insanely long verses. come on, give me a little dance break!!

“Creation and Innovation aren’t always the same thing,” like yes you’re mind this words are just so correct 👏🏼👏🏼
MJ was an innovator. Period.
Phenomenal talent. Once In a generation type.
@@MedusssssaChristo amen
The thing you said about Michael is so true though. Even if an artist we listen to is not directly inspired by Michael, the odds of them being inspired by someone else who got a lot of inspiration from Michael are insanely high, which make the artist we actually listen to inspired by MJ indirectly (I hope this comment doesn't sound as confusing for you guys reading as it sounds for me while writing lol)
the innovator thing is SO true, the amount of criticism i’ve seen directed at artists for not being ‘innovative’ is crazy, like an artist does not need to be completely groundbreaking and re invent a genre to be good and that’s a ridiculous standard to hold them to, sometimes they’re just amazing at what they do 🤷
edit: also the michael jackson one, i feel like he definitely is and icon and influential but i’m SICK of people comparing every single artist to him as some sort of objective measurement of their success😭 like no not every popular artist is ‘the new michael jackson’ they’re their own person!!! and holding them to the standards of his success or they’re ‘not actually that popular’ is unnecessary as well 😭
Girl, I was just going to comment on your last video. You said you liked watching celebrity interviews and I like watching u!
You are awesome!! You’re so great at your craft and literally look forward to your uploads 🥰
Can’t wait to watch 🥰
Have a great day
Thank you! I really appreciate this so much 💕
Okay but that was a bit of a jump though. When people say they want longer songs, they typically mean 3-4 minutes not 5-7 😭 like I don’t want 1-2 minute songs, I just want 3-4.
Lmaooo you said not too much. But I get it, even a 4 min song is becoming rare now
@@naomi.cannibal You ever heard take your time do it right by SOS band? That song is 7+mins and it's fire. The groove is infectious, it could go on longer if it wanted.
Unrelated news, but dua wiped her ig page, signaling a new era.
YESSS IM SO READY I’ve been keeping my eyes PEELED
Michael Jackson, often referred to as the "King of Pop", is credited with several musical and entertainment innovations:

Great comment. 💯💯 He has infuenced so many. Very talented man😊
I Love how Naomi is the voice of reason in her vídeos. 😌🌺
Lmaooo i try my best to be
I have no idea how I never put Avril and Olivia in the same category but damn that person is absolutely right.
Like me and my friend talked about when we were young fest last year and how pop punk revival is a little weird but also how a lot of shit coming out isn’t for us, 30 year old adults lol Olivia Rodrigo and Billie eilish aren’t making music for me, and that’s perfectly fine, I’m glad gen z has these artists because their music fucks and I would’ve been having a great time if I had them in my teen years
I love these types of vids!
That 1 hit wonder take was WILD lol
They didn't intend to be 1 hit wonders.
Comon Michael jackson changed the whole music industry after thriller and yet his not influcial .....love them but earth wind and fire really😂
The Michael Jackson one 😂 that man has been keeping kpop going for literal years hell Dynamite by BTS is all about MJ especially dance and symbolism
This is a great point. The pride in acting that way is scary too
naomi i could literally listen to u talk for hours. you are my cooking/getting ready/ just vibing youtube watch
I am so honored 🤭

reasons Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, because he brings different Demographics from different Genres and He demolished segregation in Music and unites listeners, most people who critics Michael Jackson never listen to his whole music discography let’s be honest
this is one of my favorite types of video from you! 🫶🏼
Thank you so much!! 🫶🏾

A yt person def said that about Michael Jackson
Had to cause excuse me ???
Yeah the Earth Wind and Fire thing got me. It was weird and made it seem like funk wasn’t “important” or was all he did.
so many uploads recently tysmmm 😭😭 ive been bingeing them all
Thank you 🫶🏾🫶🏾
I love the level of consideration you give with each hot take and how you explore them, the fact that you get sad to put them in a category shows how much you care about music!
I'm just waiting for a *Naomi* unpopular opinion videos. I know she got some that might be good tea ☕🍵
I always want to do a video of MY unpopular opinions but I can never think of any… but then sometimes y’all submit some that are also mine… one of my friends just keeps his in a notes app I might have to start lmao
