  • I’m Mike Hackard with Hackard Law. I’m also a San Francisco Giants fan.
I’m saddened by the passing of Willie Mays. If you’re a baseball fan, you probably share in the sadness.
Growing up, I was blessed to see many Giants games. My father and his friends shared a box at Candlestick Park.
It was cool to see many greats of the day. It was extra cool to have seen what is historically referenced as the “greatest game ever pitched.”
What a night that was. July 2, 1963. Two baseball legends, Juan Marichal and Warren Spahn, engaged in a 16-inning scoreless battle.
The game ticked past midnight into July 3. It was 12:31 a.m. Willie Mays hit Spahn’s hanging screwball down the left-field line at Candlestick. It sailed over the fence. The game was over. It’s had no pitching equal.
That’s just one of my memories of Willie Mays. It’s a fine one. Thank you for listening.
