Hori's dad is not a deadbeat. Just clarification. His job usually keeps him away on long trips ever since she was a child. Same with her mom, she is usually taking multiple shifts at her job which is why hori was mostly alone.
Edit: They are also still married although their some contention due to Kyosuke's job but they are still together and mostly happy.
i just have a bad tendency of associating people who smoke with being bad people based off of my personal experiences and asthma, i know not all smokers are bad people but the smell around them always drives me away from them, i can't get within 2 or 3 meters of them when they don't smoke and i have to be far away from them when they do smoke
yeah he's actually an awesome guy he's just always busy far away from home :(

the current arrangement is not uncommon and the reason they work a far instead of moving is most likely for the children. as moving is a lot harder for them emotionally leaving everything they know behind and all that. so instead the parents make extra effort in traveling. so that the children have a good outside environment, even at the cost of their home environment. its not ideal but its a choice.

10 years later, miyamura moves in and the mother moves out living with the father.
hori and miyamura are living together and acting guardian of souta.

I feel like you would really enjoy "tomo chan is a girl" because it's also a comedy romance with a bit more direct and complex approch to it.

I'm just loving the Remy hate, just "oh this so cute, she's empathetic with his emotions, FUCK YOU REMY!!, but I hope they get together they would be so cute, REMY I SWEAR TO GOD." I think you'll come around eventually to liking a very small amount of remy in your life.
That's one thing I wished the anime covered, though the new season of Horimiya might cover it, is the relationship between Hori's mom and dad. The manga goes into their back story, and you can tell that the entire family loves each other... even if they are all sadists & masochists.

I had the exact same reaction at 13:17. I’ve never seen an anime do a confession scene like that before. It caught me off guard but I loved it
Hori's dad I just super chill, he just comes of as the kind of dad that loves to tease his kids. That one dad that would make weird jokes just to make his kids feel embarrassed lol
I feel like Hori's dad is a constant test for Izumi - though Hori obviously has issues with him, and he never seems to mean what he says, he knows how to get genuine reactions out of people. Hori isn't phased because I think she's aware of what he's doing. If Izumi had said the wrong thing or not have been honest, Hori and her dad would have caught on instantly.
Not saying it's a healthy way to do things, but seems like it's the Hori family's way lol
I don't know if I'm the only one, but when ever Hori says "Miyamura" in the English dub, I always mistake it for "Mi amor (My love)" and have to remind myself that's not what she's saying lol
Which in the first episode, threw me off a bit because they weren't quite close enough for pet names like that yet, but I absolutely love the idea of that becoming her pet name for him later on in life. It's both really sweet and a great pun 😊
In terms of speaking in third person; keep in mind that in Japanese its supposed to imply being cutsey and young. I'm not a big fan of anime series keeping this in the translation because of the massively different implications in English, but her using it is really just supposed to be the series calling her childish rather than haughty or vain.
Oh, and this doesn't apply for this series, but if I don't mention it I'll get a bunch of replies stating it, but it can also be used as either an indicator of psychological issues (its a huge flag for either PTSD or yanderes) or humility. Though in the case of humility it usually varies based on who they're speaking to with people using third person to speak to their superiors and first person for equals or lessers.
I think papa Hori is my favorite character in the show
You hate her a lot huh. She annoyed me a lot at the start, but she grew on me. At the end I liked her more than the prez to be honest.

I think the problem with her starts with the way they introduce her to us. The first thing they show is how she doesn't do her job properly and Hori gets in trouble because of it. And later proceeds to joke about taking Miyamura.
If the two scenes had been further apart and we'd gotten some other scenes with her, I don't think I would have hated her.
Why does she even speak in third person in dub tho? She wasn’t like that in sub.
I think is either how japanese is spoken ( a lot of times you can catch the fact that they don't say me but their name) or because they thought sounded cute. Idrk

I think Remi comes off a bit more annoying/vindictive in the beginning of the anime compared to the manga, I’ve read just past where the anime ends in the manga and actually like her a fair bit. The beginning doesn’t display her in the best light though.
I ended up liking her more later on it just took a while to get there. I was surprised when I stopped hating her LOL

Nah. Remi is very much the type of person to go out of her way to help her friends and she can be very insightful when it comes to other people's feelings.

I like Remy quite a bit, and your reactions to her are...painfully entertaining. I won't deny they're the main thing I look forward to in this reaction series. I was wondering if your opinion of her would improve later on, and it does seem she grew on you a tad based on another response you made. Very much looking forward to your commentary on her at that point in the season.

I think thats like my one minor gripe with the anime overall, some of the side characters just get those random moments of "wut" (like Remi trying to steal Miyamura) that just kind of happen and then are done happening, I get why a 12 episode show can't include the entire manga and focusing on the main couple makes complete sense but sometimes it feels like things with the side chars can just come out of nowhere and the vanish just as fast and get a bit confusing without the "extra" info you get from the source material
Remi talking about herself in 3rd person is a quirk of the Japanese language that they simply chose to translate word by word. She's written to talk like that to make her look more cutesy/childish, I suppose.
That hate on Remi was the most painfull thing... Sure her first impression was horrible, but she is a ncie and friendly girl.
its funny toru thinks he was the closets but he wanst, he doesnt know anything about hori other than what he seas at school while izumi got to know horis real self outside of school. in the manga toru and izumi bump into both horis mother and dad and he has no idea who they are at all...and izumi dosent tell him eather haha

What alicia doesn't understand is that the reason remi said she'd take miyamura was to fill her curiosity about hori. She had a feeling and forced the answer out of hori to confirm it, but alicia has ingrained it in her mind that remi's a man stealing hoe.

Alicia, I'm not saying Remi isn't kinda annoying, but I suggest you watch Kanon 2006, sometimes, unusual mannerisms like speaking in the third person is an insecurity or trauma. And yea, sometimes Remi says the wrong thing, but it doesn't always mean she's doing it to be hurtful

Remi is nowhere NEAR as bad in the japanese dub, they made way dumber and forward than she actually is, which sucks, since she's pretty cool in the original.
This episode is soooooo awkward, in actually funny way, not painful cringe way
