      I usually read blogs before I attempt a new craft. There are always specific terms and language to help you find what you're looking for. For example, this recipe is an example of "Cold Process" which is one of the four major types, and it is one of the only ones to use Lye which is harmful if misused.
      Other types are Melt and Pour, Hot Process, and Rebatching.

      As palm oil is considered a "hard" oil and sweet almond oil is a "soft" oil, your soap is going to be very soft. Instead of palm (fatty acid of 44) use Tallow 22 fatty acid, Lard 28 fatty acid, or Walmart Shortening which has a high palmitic fatty acid of 35,

      Coconut oil is very drying on the skin if that is your only ingredient for making soap. It would be okay but you'll need to increase your superfat percent to at least 20 so your skin doesn't become extremely dry.

    Mine isn’t hardening. It’s all mushy in the silicone mold after two days. Is it because the oils weren’t hot enough when I added the water/lye mixture? Is there anything I can do to save this squishy soap? I’m editing to add that I’ve used this recipe twice now and both times it came out all squishy and mushy. I was able to save one batch by re batching it but the other batch is still squishy. I’m positive I got the measurements right. Could the problem be that I’m using an enamel coated cast iron pot? I’ve heard you should use a stainless steel pot but I don’t have one.

      You can substitute but you’ll need to run the entire recipe with the substitute oil through a soap calculator to get the correct amount of lye and liquid

      Mamata, your soap may be on the soft side when you first remove it from the molds. (ours was) If this is the case but it is still firm enough to hold its bar shape, you can let it cure for 30-60 days and it should harden. Hope this helps!

    • @turlapatisarma3095

    Heya I made soap about 4 days ago and it still hasn't hardened in the mold. What can I do to fix it?

    • @LehmansHardware
      @LehmansHardware  8 років тому

      Meagan, Is it still liquid or has it set up and still soft? It will not get rock hard, but it should set up enough to get out of the molds. You could leave it for a few more days and then try to unmold. Hope this helps!

    • @maegenl7387
      @maegenl7387 8 років тому

      It is still liquid, like squash soup. I tried stirring it more to help thicken it up, was going to give it another couple of days but I am not sure. Should I add more lye you think?

    • @LehmansHardware
      @LehmansHardware  8 років тому

      Maegan, I would suggest you do some google searches on troubleshooting homemade soap and see what you find. Don't add more lye at this point. You may need to start over, but see what you can find on some soapmaking blogs or forums. Good luck!
