Stuart, thank you for this lovely song, sir. May you rest in peace. 🙏
It could be the Greatest Song Ever Written… Composed… etc…
Love this song
Ha
I've never seen you look like this without a reason
Another promise fallen through, another season passes by you
Shock
I never took the smile away from anybody's face
And that's a desperate way to look for someone who is still a child
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
So take that look out of here, it doesn't fit you
Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded
Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
Shock, 1, 2
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
In a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
Ha

I don't hear or listen to this song often, but when I do it brings out a special memory burried deep in my heart... this is my story:
I was about 16 when I heard this song for the first time back in Puerto Rico. I didn't speak English then, but I still liked this tune. In May, at the end of our high school year, I crossed paths with this girl whom I really liked then. She was gorgeous, had a great personality and had the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen to that point. Although we used to get on the bus together after school we never really said anything to each other. Yes, I was very shy and immature, and I was afraid of rejection. But man, did I have a crush on her! This particular day, we stood next to each other while waiting for the bus because it was raining, when suddenly this song started playing on a radio at a store next to that stop. She started moving to the beat of it, so I asked her if she liked the song and she quickly replied: Yes, I do! (in Spanish, of course, while smiling) With that we started talkin for a few minutes while we waited for the bus. That day I found out she was born in the states, but her parents had gone back to the island and she was not too happy about it because she missed many of her friends and family back in Connecticut, and talked about school among other things. Her name was Josefina (Josephine). Then, the bus arrived and as we started to go our way, I said to her that this song would always remind me of her every time I'd listen to it no matter where I would be. She smiled again and said to me: I hope you do because I'll remember you too. Soon after that I left PR to come to the states myself. Never saw her again! She is in my memory every time I listen to this song. Blessings to her wherever she is!!!
