Hello from Canada. It's freezing here and treacherous outside. I was feeling major withdrawal, not being able to ride - so I threw caution to the wind and went for a quick rip up the street. Big mistake ! I fell hard and messed up my shoulder. Luckily I wore my lid. Anyway the reason I'm telling you this is: I really appreciate the content you provide. Watching your channel is helping to get through 4 months of being snow bound. They salt our roads here for melting the ice, so if you ride too much your bike gets completely coated and eaten up by corrosion. I envy you guys living in warm climates who can ride all year. So I'm watching YT ebike vids, buying lottery tickets and imagining hitting the big one and moving south. Thanks for all your work putting these up. CHeers!
That’s why I call you the king of bike because you’re very good and you know exactly what you’re talking about. You have the respect of all people you got haters Neighbor group but that’s OK. I find you a very, very smart man.
I use those same chargers off of Amazon too for my 48 volt and 60 volt batteries. They are very good. The Fardriver 72360 is also the same controller that Spark Cycle Works use for their Brute and Javelin bikes. Thanks for the info.
I just installed a Flipsky 75100 VESC controller on my e-scooter-bike (ebike made with scooter electronics.). Unlike Fardriver, VESC controllers have so many variants with different numbers of inputs, different ways to turn it on/off. My 75100v1 “box” type has no ignition, so you either have to plug it in each time and unplug when done, or buy an external “anti-spark” switch that costs as much as the controller. Lol. Some have a built-in anti-spark switch with a remote button. But the one best suited for ebikes has a connector with Bat+, Ignite, Bat-, and often is packaged with a key switch. VESC doesn’t natively support pedal assist so there is no port for a pas sensor. There are various work-arounds. VESC can talk to a BMS and you can see the BMS information in the VESC app and the BMS can tell the controller to back off before it slams the discharge port closed. VESC supports variable regen, if you have a thumb throttle-regen. VESC does not have a 3-speed switch connection. There’s work arounds for everything but its not plug and play. I choose my specific model because its cheap ($100 with Bluetooth module) and it fits inside my 60mm diameter frame where the original controller was. There are much better VESC but too big. VESC also does voltage in Max voltage, and Series. So a 4s-20s they call 84v max, but if you use a 84v battery the VESC will be destroyed. Lol. The other pain in the butt is it uses JST 2.0PH connectors with up to 7-pins. And finding both male and female connectors in 7pin is not easy. So do your research before buying any VESC to make sure it has the ports you need. Some don’t even have hall sensor connection so it sensor-less only which is not as good as sensored start then handing over to FOC.
@ , yes, so the BMS must have can. Unfortunately my battery BMS has no communication. But if I upgrade the battery to 12s2p P45b, they do make tiny “charge only” BMS which protects while charging and does balance maintenance, but the discharge protection comes from the can bus signal to the VESC telling it to stop using so much power.
I have the Flipsky 75100 pro v2 with my Bafang BBSHD and it does have working PAS. Works very well actually. It also came with an on/off switch for the handlebar. Have this setup on 2 bikes right now.
@ yes, SpinTend makes some good products. That V2 has a lot of additional ports. It looks like it’s designed for a dual motor scooter that has 12v headlight and brake light like my original controller had. It also has 3 ADC channels. They also sell an ADC adapter for ebikes with inputs for 3-speed, turn signals, horn and a few others. Unfortunately both were too big to fit in my 60mm diameter tube frame,
Man I'm going down the rabbit hole with this stuff started out with a prebuilt xp decided to build a mid drive now that that's finished I'm already thinking about a direct drive hot rod! I got to see what that 72 volts is like!
I've used the 7235 and the 7250 and they both are great, I've heard that you can also do 36v if you set LowVolProtect to 31V. Only downside with them is the screws it comes with strip easily, I've replaced them with allen head screws because I don't want to deal with them.
I used my 72360 to test my 36v10ah battery from another ebike to find its performance limits and if the BMS would cut out at 25a. But if you use regen, it could cause a problem and fry the mosfets. The Fardriver turns off regen automatically when it thinks the battery is at 90% SOC, as shown on the graph page of the fardriver app. A fully charged 36v battery is only 42v and with show up as
@ you never used a 36v battery with a fardriver. Thats why your regen cuttoff worked properly. You can check and see any time your fardriver app graph page shows 90% or higher, regen is deactivated. But that 90% calculation is based on what you tell the fardriver the battery rated voltage is, and what the actual voltage is. So the original comment with a 36v battery you will regen even at 100% full charge.
I had no idea about this controller, has this been out long? I am not seeing other videos on this model, looks like you scooped everyone with this video!
I’ll be looking forward to seen your wiring video of the Fardriver. I am currently using 2 on two different bike and haven’t been able to setup regen/field weakening, I done the app setup but nothing noticeable unless I didn’t connect specific wire of the controller to communicate to the motor or something.
Awesome video. I'm curios. I have a 50a kunteng sine wave controller on my Bafang g62 hub motor but software limited to 45a. Nowhere i can find info on phase amperage of these. I use them because I like the PAS. Those far driver 35a will they be more powerful or allow field weakening so my 48v system can go faster? They have PAS? Or would it be a downgrade power wise? Also which budget display do you recommend with these?
Great vid Tommy, I might have to try one of these smaller fardrivers, I'm currently pushing about 2,350w with 52v but my BMS is 40a and I'm running it with a shunt-modded 45a (48-72v) controller so far with no problems - P14 on SW900 Display set to 45a (goes up to 50, I've tried it at 50 but noticed no difference from 45a..?) My question to you Tommy would be, would I get better performance using this smaller fardriver controller then? I'm guessing maybe so. And also how heavy is this smaller fardriver controller?as I hate how heavy my 45a big blocky controller is. I plan on upgrading my battery to 60, or preferably 72v (with a higher amp BMS) so I can push more amps through a controller without risking the battery with it (the 52v20ah battery I've got) only having the 40a BMS.

Too expensive for one thing not easy to tune the list goes on
@@E-bikeguy ASI is a POS company.
I meant put the 7235 on a 2000w hub.
@RetroMancer242 nice! Yes I agree too much hype but I really don't know because there's not much up to date video on asi controller
@@E-bikeguy Fuck ASI and fuck Grin. I was saving up for a BAC855 for my BBSHD. Changed my mind. selling my build and getting a hub and a Fardriver based on your video. Thanks.
Dam went to order a few of these but shipping was 70$ to me omg
Ih wow that's a lot
Why change from 961200 to 961800??? Your motor will never handle that power. Even 1200 is too much
1200 is ok 1800 yes but that is what i want to do
@@E-bikeguy Yes looking forward to the build just saying is the weak point now will be the motor. how many battery amps are you gonna try and push through the 1800?
