I shoot in Open Gate for EVERYTHING and I do this as my own business for years. Full time. Open Gate is a dream in resolution, dynamic range, noise control and panning in post. There is something going on here that I don’t think we know about. Either Open Gate is a series of JPEGs that are recorded in 4:2:2 color or the nature of recording 30 still images every second differs in compression behavior than video in 4K. If the Panasonic S1 samples each JPEG in 4:2:2 then perhaps it is providing a better color sample in Open Gate than we think. Clearly, from this excellent test, Open Gate is superior. But how is it managing this?
Beautiful color. Well done. Without trying to rock the boat the image (Full Frame) appears to be soft focus. Perhaps it's YT or even my faiding eyesight! On LH side the grey tower has sharp window frame detai, as we move to right there is a reduction in detail.
Hi Osamu, thanks for the test! very illustrative. It seems to be, contrary to expectations, that in 4:2:2 it shows more compression artifacts than in 4:2:0, Do you know what it could be?
Very good test! Thank you! There seems to be more noise reduction in the 5.9k mode. I've heard people having issues with it when the camera is moving. If you feel like doing more tests I'd like to see a high contrast, saturated shot that's hand held with a bit of motion.
Cropping in at extreme ratios allows you to see differences in performance. This test shows that 4/2/0 8 bit is virtually worthless, if you are interested in putting out quality work. To film Uncle Ted guzzling at the family barbecue, probably OK, and still better than the early days of home video cameras, but for professional work you’d only use the higher color sampling and bit rate choices this camera is capable of.

Hello Osamu are you going to purchase the Panasonic S5

Maybe he put wrong names on those two comparison by mistake or camera firmware issue.

Why on Earth would someone want at 300% or 500% crop...
I get it though... showing extremes'
