You know what absolutely screams "Bear?" A tiny zaku visor on top of a massive skull. Also, the torso twist point is between the upper and lower teeth.
It's so not a bear, and yes, it's more of a "Punisher" mech, but it seems a an effective design, but it looks more like something of a "Rifts" design...
I noticed that ghost bear has quite a few mechs with skulls on them like the Karhu, ursus II. I think they may have more, but none comes to mind right now. I mean, technically, if you paint them up right, Gargoyle, and Man o war.
The Ursus is a mech I really like in concept. It's like if you took a Thunderbolt, scaled it down to 50 tons, but still keep a solid weapon array because yay lightweight clan weapons. Sane, mid weight, cost-effective designs like the Ursus tend to some of my favorite clan mechs. However, I am cursed when it comes to this mech in particular. Whenever I bring an Ursus, it without fail takes a TAC to the gyro or an ammo bin, getting destroyed or disabled in the first few turns of the game. Still, should perform well at a decent price assuming the dice don't truly hate you.
I didn't even notice the (obvious) skull torso until you mentioned it - I guess I just wasn't looking for a skull torsso. I like it's silhouette and the rest of its vivual details well enough though.
I suspect the art, and the name were developed separately, but I have no behind the scenes knowledge. Also compared to a Griffin(?) Or a Summoner the long range damage may be a bit lacking.
Man, look at that grinning visage, like taking the Atlas' Deaths Head, but bigger and more literally. I do kind of miss the goofy designs, as opposed to the more homogenized look of the CGL designs. CGL's art does provide a more redable and unified art style though, which is fine.
Hey there CR. I agree that the Ursus should have better armor on the arms, and I would take that from the legs. As far as usage... I would use this as an 'opponent' Mech, like you suggest.
This might be the worst visual design (in my humble opinion) in the whole of the setting (which is saying something). It's unfortunate as I do appreciate it on the tabletop and the in-universe premise is decent too.

That would look freaking creepy when it torso twists haha
Skull screams Ghost Beats scientists got infiltrated by RIFTS Coalition States or a designer from Gurran Lagann
Huh. Kind of reminds me of the Gurren Gunmen from the Gurren Lagann anime.

Maybe if it was called the Castle it could be a nod to Punisher at least.
"It's Monster-Hesh!" (Sealab 2021)
Aw man I loved Sealab back in the day.

Seems like a miss to use a human skull design instead of a bear skull.
Now a bear skull design might have been more intimidating. Giant skeletor is just kind of weird :D
Definitely a spooky scary skeleton

So painfully 90s egdelord 😂
This mech proves FASA tried to out skull 40k but failed.
I enjoy all of Critical Rocket videos 🎉
Thanks rocket 😊
So I wanna take the head off an atlas. Give it its own arms and legs and call it a mech.
Turns out it's a headmaster for the Atlas.
Someone on the GB tech team watched too much Gurren Lagaan.

There is room for both. The goofy stuff still has its place in Battletech I think.

Just seemed weird since the arms are kind of integral for it's long term combat compared to other 'mechs that have decent torso weapons.
The stats say Centurion-9AL IIC. The art says Necron head on legs. 😂
The ultimate Necron weapon that fell through a Dolmen gate and arrived in Battletech's universe.
