    That was excellent!!! Both, your shooting and your relationship with your Dad. I can tell he loves you very dearly and is very proud of you. Considering you hadn't been shooting for that long when the video was made, you HIT A MOVING LIFESAVER!!! WOW!!!
    I've been shooting for years and I don't even think I could hit a stationary life saver let alone a moving one. Well Done! :)

    I'm sorry, but I just have to laugh every time I read the comments below (that's right, I read them). Hey, I know I'm not Katniss, it's just a fun title. Haha! No need to take is so seriously. Besides, I was only just a beginner archer when this video was made. Now I've been shooting a longbow for over three years (and counting).

      It's a selfish world and the anonymity of the internet makes people write down a lot of horse shit. But who cares, as long as we enjoy our archery. I am still a beginner at 50 ;-)

    Why in the world would someone give this vid a thumbs down is beyond me. Some people just have crappy attitudes no matter what. Sad sad life for them. Meanwhile people that enjoy life just do.Hey Lucy. Keep it up. Very impressive. And I guess it's Dad, whoever you are. Love the positive go for it attitude. Nice stuff. Smiles

      Ahh, you have no imagination.
      Maybe they think Jeff is exploiting their daughter for attention.
      Maybe they don't like this video and think youtube will show them less like this if they hit thumbs down.
      Maybe they think it wasn't that impressive.
      Maybe they don't like transition slides or the music.
      Maybe they don't like archery or what it might stand for on the grounds of its history for hunting and killing animals.
      But hey, you like it right? I don't mean to be cruel and this may be some arbitrary comment on an arbitrary video, but just in general, use some perspective before belittling those unlike you. 'Some people just have crappy attitudes' is a strawman and you can do better just by staying in your own court.

    Best part of this video is a daughter and her daddy. You can't replace that joy she felt there when you guys hugged and she accomplished that, all because dad led her there. My little lady turns 7 in May, getting her a 1st shot bow and gonna plink some hay this summer. Hope she enjoys it enough to shoot life savers someday! :D
    Blessings.

    I'm not usually a fan of "trick shot" videos but through the use of the slow-mo shots etc, this video demonstrates some of the technical aspects of following a moving target. Not to mention a heap of skill of course. Nice work guys.

    "Aim small miss small" Amen to that (I learned that phrase from American Sniper first but whatever). I remind myself that all the time, especially using the right side of the bow instead of the left. AWESOME shots you guys have! Shooting a lifesaver, putting candles out with arrows, etc. good grief! :D Really setting the bar for how skilled you can be as an archer.
    I've been practicing with a 30lb recurve since I was 17, and using the Slavic draw on the right side of the bow for just over a year (lets you hold extra arrows in ur draw hand, as opposed to a quiver attached to your bow). I'd recommend it to ya if there are any ambidextrous bows among your arsenal here.

    I got frustrated last night trying my first attempts with the second anchor, although SOME of the shots felt like a amchine, soft crisp firing and watching the arrow hit a spot as small as a mint @ 18yds. And to follow with 6 inch misses, I cannot imagine with my strength that I wont be able to get better with what Im working with, AFTER I learn the single motion draw/fire with some work on the bow hand follow through!

  • @PooMonkeyMan

    Started shooting a few months ago, but I thing I found curious when I see people shooting flying targets, is why do people fire the arrow when the target moves away from its peak height? Wouldn't it be better to hit the target at its peak, rather than when it's coming close to the ground? Just really curious, as I may want to work towards that one day.

    • @JeffKavanagh
      @JeffKavanagh  6 років тому +1

      Some people do it that way because theoretically the object when it is at it's peak like that, at that point in time is stationary and yes it is to be considered easier to hit then. That limits someone though and IMHO is not what wing shooting is about at all. I do a lot of bird hunting and they never stop mid air for you so if you don't learn how to lead them and over take them during your shot you will not learn to hit them. It is much too difficult to try and hit a moving object in a specific point in the air. It s much easier and practical to follow it on its flight path and over take it . I would say that it is safe to say that 95% of the shots people miss on moving targets are because they are shooting behind the target for your above reason.

    I have been working on my release thanks to spotting your channel. Shot hundreds of arrows out of my first bow @55lb. Broke my homemade Oak @45lb, until my staves dry I am stuck at 55lb :( so one thing for wood arrows, should I just convert to full feather flu flu all except for deer hunting? I cant help but notice how often your videos are flu flu. My release is getting better and learning today that I should QUIT static release, I am excited to go in the woods this afternoon!

    • @lucykavanagh2240
      @lucykavanagh2240 9 років тому +1

      The important thing is to work on getting your shooting form right: anchor point, elbow down, etc. Once all of that becomes muscle memory, you'll be able to focus on improving your aim (which is just a matter of practice makes perfect). For aiming, it helps when you try to hit the tiniest point of your target. Like I said in the video: "aim small, miss small."
