If you want rajanikanth then this mkvie is a good start. Other good manirathnam movies include nayagan starring kamal haasan and geethanjali starring nagarjuna (whom u recently saw in wilddog trailer) and is the only telugu movie manirathnam directed.

Probably the first time y’all are seeing the actress. Her name is Shobana. She’s a Malayalam film actress and bharathanatyam dancer. She did more films back in the 80s and 90s and I believe early 2000s. She still is in some films today, but not as much. She has her own dance school and is primarily focused on that. A good and famous film song of hers is “oru murai vantha pathai ya...” from the Malayalam film Manichitratharu.
Interesting info: Cinematographer of this song video and the whole movie is Santosh Sivan, a member of ASC ( American Society of Cinematographer )

This is the one guys , Rajni is solid , Mammootty is full of Gravitas and Mani Ratnam in fine form and solid acting from all. Coloring of this movie is so so good, and for me the best performance of this movie is by Srividya , such an underrated actress. and if you know Tamil the poetry in the singb is surreal.

This is a good movie to watch. But it is more a Maniratnam movie than "Rajini movie". He has done a great job but it was not on brand. The story goes parallel to one of the stories lines from. Mahabharat. Mani even named his characters as an homage to the Epic.

This is certainly one of the best Rajnikanth movies. This was before he got projected into the whole superstar image with supernatural abilities and became a showpiece for mass audiences.. beautiful storyline, direction, stunning songs. (You've already watched another one from it, Rakkama Kaiyya Thattu) Definitely, definitely watch it.
This is also one of those movies where Maniratnam worked with Hindu mythology; the basic storyline is derived from Mahabharata, one of the two great Indian epics, but he has chosen to retell it from a different perspective. But even if you're unfamiliar with the epic, the movie is worth watching. One of his masterpieces.
