    I've watched loads of videos about bfs and you have finally made the penny drop, I tried buying cheap to see how I like it but I just can't cast to save my self. Plus is more for canals and smaller waters. I've been doing it all wrong. You've showed me so much detail on setting the reel up. I kinda thought I knew but really had no clue. I hope you read this? Thanks from Scotland

    We’re never too old to learn/try something a bit different and it was good to see you applying your experience to tackle something new to you. You’re probably already familiar with them on the tube, but if not, Perch Jesus is THE BFS man and of course Outback. Have fun Paul👍

      cheers Paul. Yeah never too old to have some fun eh! For me it's all about just enjoying some fishing. Got a couple of videos coming up with the BFS so you'll be able to see how i'm progressing.

    Always glad to see someone trying BFS. You should watch some videos to better understand how to adjust the reel. Generally you start with a loose spool and then tighten the spool tension to the point where there is no side to side play with your thumb on the spool. Then start at full brakes and keep reducing until the spool starts to bird's nest a bit and then add bake a bit more brake. Use thumb to stop spool before lure hits water. Best wishes.

    Oh, I forgot to say, often "out of the box" there's a ton of grease on the stock bearings. For such a light spool this really kills your distance and accuracy with light lures. Apparently, cleaning in acetone and then drying completely (possibly then adding a pin-droplet of high performance oil) is supposed to help. I just went for ceramic hybrid bearings coz you run them dry and don't need to lubricate.

    Got that rod , came with a reel Pre loaded with braid , got a spool with flouro too , tried the 6 lb test Cahira nitinol I ordered from you, had 3 pike so far biggest 7lb. Which ploughed me all all over the shop , caught it on a crazy fish nimble crayfish 2.5 “ , 2. 5 grams , best cray lure on the market from agm lures

    I have this rod in spinning, its absolutely crazy for the price shipped to Europe. It has a very good bend right to the handle but yet still enough tip (tubular) to work agressive 4-5g fast sinking jerkbaits in heavy current and still play 1-2g spoons properly. The action is medium-fast so casting feels smooth and thanks to the super short handle you can perform underhand extremely low casts under bushes effortlessly. I actually broke the top section and they sent me another one (for a fee ofcourse). My biggest has been a 3kg seatrout from a stream this autumn on the ELF Trout, I did not feel underpowered AT ALL.

    I setup a bit different when setting breaks on BFS. I have the spool loose, just loose enough to the point you have a slight little bit of side to side play. Have the magnets on full. Keep loosening the magnets one at a time then you’ll have it perfect. Might need abit of thumb control but get amazing accuracy and distance.

    Nice, I'm addicted to BFS too. It needs to catch on more here in the US. It's got to be nice to have actual tackle shops that carry BFS rods and reels. Here we don't really see that.

      you dont really need bfs to have fun when you have bass that fight hard on normal tackle. bfs is popular in the uk due to the mass population of tiny perch that eat tiny lures. i have a bfs setup but if the average size of perch was 4 pounds i deffo wouldnt have one

    I don’t get the attraction of these BFS rods, casting distance is better with a fixed spool on the ultralight stuff, and accuracy is just as good to a competent ultralight angler. I’ve got a tsurinoya XF50 and Kuying Teton 0-5g rod and it’s just not as good as fishing the 0-5g gekkabijin or 0-5g tailwalk with a 1000 Stradic. Unpopular opinion with a lot of guys but to me this BFS stuff is lovely gear but just not the best way of fishing the smallest lures.

      As general coment your spining combo is on much higher level than BFS and as some one that started with FX50 I know that this reel is not ideal for BFS aplications. There is a real diference when swiching in to something like abu ltx-bf8 or even abu alx upgraded with custom bfs 32 mm spool ceramic bearings and aditional set of magnets.
      And still in my experience they are not as versitile as simple 1000-2000 spining real and casting less than 2.5g becomes real pain. But on the other hand fishing with spining real is not as fun for me so I using BFS only for the fun factor

    • @ukperchfishing3000
      @ukperchfishing3000 4 роки тому

      tomass norkuss yes I take your point about the different level of the gear I personally own, but even seeing higher end kit (and I know guys who have awesome BFS kit) I don’t see that the BFS gear is actually better at doing the job of ultralight lure fishing than a spinning outfit. I do take your point that people enjoy the use of a BFS combo and that is a major part of the attraction though, I love nice gear myself so totally get that. I’m often fishing 0.5-1.5g total lure weight on my outfits that may influence my view a fair bit too, as at that end of the scale you need the right spinning outfit to get decent casting distance etc, at the 3-5g range I could see there being less difference, but I’m still a spinning outfit guy through and through!

      Oddball 2012 it’s a great reel out of the box, able to cast down to 2g. The spool bearings just make it easier to cast around 1.5g imo, it’s more for the people who enjoy tinkering with reels etc. Each to their own

    • @fabmel897
      @fabmel897 4 роки тому +1

      Oddball 2012 I agree with that but it's a 50 bucks reel not a Steez or an Aldebaran ... The bearings on this reel is cheap 😉 Buying ceramic bearings on Aliexpress for 10 bucks give you a real confort without struggling with 2 gr lures !!! And sorry for my english, I am just a damn froggy 😉

    Hi Paul, got a new bait casting combo today a 15 to 40 g casting weight perfect for my small river pike fish! My question is what difference dose rod length make? My old baitcaster was 5 foot 2 my new one is 9 foot!? What should I expect with the longer rod? Many thanks simon

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Simon. You will be able to cast further thats for sure. Also when fishing for any length of time it won't be so tiring. Those short rods need more effort to cast than the long ones. Other things are it'll be easier to fish some places with the extra rod length and you also probaly feel more on that rod compared to your short one.

    Go straight to braid it is absolute nonsence that FC is easyer for beginer in BFS. 6-10 lb or 0.6-0.8 (jp classification) braid is superior in handling and castability especialy stifer ones. My personal favorites are 10 lb cast away from Sunline and 0.8 Duel armored also 0.6-0.8 gosen hard type could be nice choice. In case if not as agresive presentation required simple mono coud be used. Only case for FC use in BFS for me is salt water LRF fishing.

    • @FishingDiscoveries
      @FishingDiscoveries 4 роки тому

      I reckon once you get into it, it's a lot easier to feather the lure in softly compared to a fixed spool reel. It's also easier to curl your casts round structures and generally control the lure as it's in flight towards the target. Fixed spool is much easier to cast further with very light lures (so if distance is your only concern that's the choice to take), but ultimate accuracy will likely go to bfs reel when matched perfectly to the right rod and lure. And, yeah, fun as hell/very addictive. For learning more casting stuff check out Angler Saito's channel called "Enjoy Fishing". Also, agree with other comments on quick/easy/cheap bearings upgrade (hybrid ceramics for less than a tenner on Aliexpress - but also do support our domestic tackle suppliers too - particularly specialists like Needhams. Similarly, avoiding using the spool tension knob for anything to do with spool braking is the way forward (just use it to minimize side to side "play" on the spool, without adding any braking to the spool). Then set the magnetic brakes for all casting performance. Finally, if you can fish on near guaranteed perch or trout waters, not having a trace lets you put the lure right on the rod tip - and that is the best way to "load up" your rod on the back cast (which is where most of the casting impetus comes from, like pulling back a catapult and letting it go, instead of "casting" it forwards so much. With lighter lures, doing a roll cast around the rod can sometimes make it easier to over-run because of the high initial spool speed. PS, I'm very much learning the ropes myself - coming from an all round angling background but with a particular "base" in fly fishing. Now there are some days when all I want to do is flick a bfs cast parallel to the water and feather it down on the nose of a fish :) Paul (G).

      Yes, single hand trowing and fish more water in sorter time.
      Spinreel cast further and no probs with wind, but thats the only thing.
      You can break better with hardlures especialy close too bric walls where the Perch are
      perfect straight casting on differcult places. Rather you luv it or hate it I fish both the most I enjoy
      the baitcaster.
